Brother of missing CSUN student Abdullah Alkadi: ‘We are still trying to hold up’
October 9, 2014

...When asked if police had shared with him any leads about the possible whereabouts of Abdullah Alkadi, his brother responded:

“Nothing so far,” Alkadi said as he stood outside his brother’s Northridge home. “(I’m) still trying to hold up. It’s tough, but we are still trying to hold up.”

On Thursday morning, he said he was about to head to the Saudi Arabian Embassy to see if they had any information for him.

The Los Angeles Police Department Missing Persons Unit, in conjunction with Robbery/Homicide Division, is “still investigating” Abdullah’s disappearance, Det. Cletus Carlton said.

“I really can’t comment on anything else,” Carlton said. He declined to answer any further questions.

...Alkadi, who is also a student at CSUN, moved into his brother’s Northridge home shortly after he reported his brother missing. One of their brothers, Mohammed Alkadi, has joined him from Saudi Arabia to offer his support, Alkadi said.

Its been reported that Adullah Alkadi is from a PROMINENT Saudi Arabian family, maybe it's time to announce a REWARD for any information that leads to Adullahs whereabouts :thinking:

Have we kicked around the idea of a kidnapping for financial reasons? Political reasons? If there's a negotiation going on behind the scenes, that could explain the lack of details reported about the investigation.

Might not be so, but in so many cases, when the police don't offer rewards or ask for help, it is because they know more than we do. Like a reward won't help, for whatever reason. I hope they tell his family soon, one way or another, about what they suspect.

I was kind of wondering about that too. If he is from a very prominent family then he may have some political enemies over here. And the University has some kind of radical elements/groups.

For coming from a prominent Arabic family, this case sure is quiet. And the FBI being involved in this tells me they think whatever happened might be of our government's concern. IMO

I agree, although I don't think it necessarily has to do with the elephant in the thread (kwim?). I still willing to entertain theories of kidnapping for random or personal vendetta. Maybe even a random hate crime facilitated by craigslist. I sure wish we had more to go on!

Just the fact that a non-citizen college student needed two luxury vehicles (when the majority of college students make do with one vehicle or zero vehicles), made me think one car was to drive and the other was the 'savings account'. Sell it and you have your 'go-cash'.

I think all he would have to to is ask for money if he needed money.

Not if his parents don't know what he's up to. And not if he doesn't want his financial activities linked to his parents.

And if his parents already bought him two luxury cars to use while in the US, they may find the request for 35,000 cash odd when he's about to come home.

But then again, I have to ask, why wasn't anyone with him? If I had a Craigslist meeting, I would take someone with me. In fact, the one and only time I had one, I took 3 other people with me.

Also, these wealthy men (also young men of other races) buy/sell their luxury cars pretty often. My friend would buy a different car every year. It is a hobby almost.

It might be normal/common culturally, but I don't think we can discount the possibility he sold the car for quick cash knowing he meant to take off and didn't want to be traced. At least I can't. He may be missing/endangered or he may be missing voluntarily. FBI may be involved for more reasons than they say.

Do we know if police/FBI have looked at his computer(s)/laptop(s)? Would they be able to get a warrant to do so? (I know they were able to with Teleka Patrick, but it took some time and her parents cooperation.) Did he take his computer/laptop with him?

That $35,000 could have been his "get away" money. Not much, not when he's use to the finer things in life but if he desired a whole different life then the one waiting for him in Saudi Arabia, then it was enough to get him started, with a good plan. IMO

I've had this same thought... assuming signs of foul play aren't readily obvious.

I don't think him having two cars is indication of anything nefarious, since we already know he was from a prominent family and not a 'poor college student'.

Also, I'd like to know... he had the two cars at the time he chose to sell one. But do we know for how long he had owned 2 cars? Perhaps the one he wasn't selling had been recently acquired, thus why he was selling one. There have been conflicting reports about whether Abdullah was actually returning to Saudi Arabia and if so, when that was going to happen (different facts have been reported about when Abdullah would graduate).

I think there has been some misinformation, and I really don't think the fact that someone from a wealthy family had possession of two cars is suspicious.

Regarding the FBI's involvement, I am sure part of the reason they are involved is because Abdullah is from a prominent Saudi Arabian family. Depending on the nature of his father's work/business, that could be cause for more concern. We know they are wealthy and of course he is middle-eastern. Yes, that does make our ears perk up.

But, we see FBI involved in cases on WS all the time. Every time posters assume there must be some secret or nefarious reason for this that is not being shared with the public. In my experience, there doesn't have to be any such reason for the FBI to get involved.
