Found Deceased CA - Amanda Cruse, 30, Point Loma, 19 Feb 2017

Mela, I'm so sorry your friend and her family are going through this.

You mentioned earlier that a home saw her getting into her trunk. Which direction did she head once leaving the car?

What kind of camera does she have? Was the case in the car, or did she take it all?

What kind of car key did she have? A key fob with push button entry and a panic button?

Did she have a keychain?

Pictures of any of these items will be helpful. Sometimes people randomly find things, but they wouldn't know to turn something in if they didn't know it belonged to a missing person. I would put images of these items on missing person posters along with her picture and a description of what she was seem wearing in the 5 am video.

Thinking of you.

The camera at the home that caught it was on the side of the house and she walked towards Sunset Cliffs. They did have another camera facing the front side of their home on Sunset Cliffs but, it was too dark and rainy and there was no visual on that camera.

Thank you that is all very good advice and I will pass that on to her mother to add to the posters. Even if she doesn't have pictures of the items she had on her even a description of them on the posters may help. I wouldn't have thought to do that so I really appreciate you mentioning it.

I really appreciate everyone on this forum taking the time to share their assistance.

I am Mandy's roommate and friend. She was always competent and careful. No body or evidence has washed up. If the police are going full force with this still they must not think she drowned any longer?

A local NBC station did a story last night. I'm in AZ not San Diego so I could only see a clip that was posted via the reporter on Twitter.

I posted a link to Astrid Solorzano @solorzanoastrid on Twitter but the forum software killed it.

Could she own more than one camera? Where was the case?

My heart is sick over this sweet missing lady. :(

If she was a photographer she probably owned several cameras - I like photography (just as a hobby), and I have 3 cameras, plus 2 digital video recorders. Anyway, not long ago I visited Point Loma, and I actually slipped off the rock path and landed about 7' down on my back in one of the tidal pools there. I used to work as a Park Ranger, so I have the expertise to hike and climb, and that accident really took me by surprise - the trail was all of a sudden extremely slippery, and it happened so fast I couldn't even react. Luckily I was only cut up, and had to take some pain killers later that day, but that area is seriously dangerous. The ocean there too is very, very rough, and there a ton of rocks just offshore. I have to presume that if she did fall into the sea, her body will probably wash up in time (I used to live in the Florida Keys, where a lot of people go missing at sea, and most are indeed recovered).

Cruse's family confirmed she had made the trip down to San Diego during President’s Day weekend. She left Scottsdale early Saturday morning and made it to San Diego in the afternoon.

She checked into the Cabrillo Inn & Suites in the afternoon, then headed to the Sunset Cliffs to take pictures on her cellphone of sunset.

The next morning, she left the hotel before 4:30 am.

Her family said surveillance footage on Monaco Street showed that Cruse had parked her car at 5:02 AM. She put her backpack and purse in the back seat, locked the car. She also left her cell phone in the car.

Other than falling, what are the other possibilities? Would predators be up and about at 4:30-5:00 am? If a homeless person was sleeping out there, would they do something to her?

Was there anything else going on her life? History of depression? I travel quite a lot on my own and a photographer. As a female traveling alone there is a sense of understanding what is safe and what is risk. It doesn't make sense to leave in the dark to photograph something that will not be a great shot opportunity. It's sunrise not sunset and the weather was bad. The risk outweighs the opportunity in this scenario. So why was she there?

It's easy to find out where she worked, what her interests were, etc. I see no signs of a love interest. It might be beneficial to determine if she had made plans to meet someone.

I also mentioned the possibilities of foul play and a suicide earlier on this thread. It seems more and more likely I guess?

There is not much info out there on her ( at least that I can find) basic things like family, job, love of arts found.. nothing more.
If it were suicide though it would seem her body would have been found somewhere. It's not like the Oregon coast... seems shoreline is HEAVILY populated making a body finding more likely.

Was she involved in any photography groups/chats... meetups? Meeting someone local early to take her around and show her the best photography spots.

“She is a free spirit,” her mother said. “She is very independent. She travels a lot she goes on her own and this trip was really planned for October but she’s spontaneous. She had never been to San Diego."

Investigators are not considering the case suspicious at the time.

I'm relating to this case with facts given... frightens me to think when I travel alone and shoot if I were to go missing no suspicious or foul play would be LE take of it. I cannot count how many times I have went out early in morning in an unknown state. The only thing that throws me off about this is the weather that morning. I wouldn't have wasted my time on shooting in rain that early in an unknown area unless a client wanted a shot in rain or I had made arrangements with a local to show me best places to shoot. I always travel with 3-4 DSL cameras so if she owned more than one not a red flag one was left in car.
