While I've never posted in Amber's forum...I have read about her. I met her mom and aunt this weekend. They were here, as Salem said.

They are such giving and caring people. My heart broke for them many times.

I'm getting involved. And I'm going to help them however I can. For them to show up here...to help another missing mom...is really just the coolest thing ever. I was amazed that they came and are doing what they are doing.

Hugs to Carrie and Linda and Amber's family.

Vigil to mark 200th day since teen disappeared

A vigil marking the 200th day since Escondido teen Amber Dubois disappeared will be held in San Diego at 7 p.m. Tuesday, the teen's family said.

Dubois was last seen Feb. 13 at 7:10 a.m., walking on North Broadway on her way to class at Escondido High School. Her family believes she was abducted by a stranger, though police have found no evidence to prove what happened to the bookish 14-year-old girl.

Despite help from private investigators, highly-trained search dogs and a team of police detectives, no trace of the teen has been found in six months.

The vigil will be held to discuss ongoing search efforts, upcoming fundraisers and ways the public can help search for Amber, according to a news release distributed by the family.

The vigil will be held at Cafe Coyote, 2461 San Diego Ave. in the Old Town neighborhood of San Diego. Ten percent of participants' food purchases will be donated to the search efforts for Amber. The family asks that you notify your server that you are there for the vigil.

More information about Amber Dubois is available at www.bringamberhome.com.

Ugh! This is so frustrating! I never thought it would be this long before Amber was found.

I'm sure her poor family feels the same way.

I googled it and her name is Elizabeth Shoaf. She was kidnapped in 2007 by a stranger and kept in an underground shelter for 10 days.

http://today.msnbc.msn.com/id/23518089/ns/today-today_people/

I recall the case; there was a story one of the network shows (e.g., 48 Hours). Everytime a case like Jaycee Dugard's, case Elizabeth Shoaf's, or Shawn Hornbeck's comes to light, we are reminded that we can't know for sure that all of this kids are killed. If they are abused and kept alive, many of them might believe that there is no going back home because of things that happened to them. Once Jaycee had a child to that perverted monster who kidnapped her, there was no going back. It makes me wonder how many other kids might have just figured their family was "lost" to them.

The silence from LE is deafening. I sure hope & pray this case is not going cold. A while back I read on another message board (Which I won't mention since I think that is against the rules) that the FBI was getting ready to release the make model & year of the truck in the video. Has anyone heard anything about that?

I still see her picture in lots of places all over town, even when I am in San Diego. Of course, I think of her when I see her picture, but I think of her much more often than that. I wish for her parent's sake that she would be found. Sadly, I don't think this case will ever be solved. I feel like a "fair-weather" WebSleuther when it comes to this case, but it is painful to know that days and days go by with nothing being done and nothing coming to light regarding her case. I have felt this fatalism from the day I walked into the Search Center and was met with so much disdain from my inquiry of the people there about what exactly she was wearing and where they had searched. I can't even imagine the pain that her parents must feel and the fact that I feel so badly about this case makes thinking about her parents and Amber incredibly sad. I will never forget her. I will always look for her or something that might belong to her when I go on walks. I feel hopeless and helpless when it comes to this case and it makes me feel horrible.

This case is soooooooooooooo frustrating!!! They need to be looking for Amber just across the border, IMO. Tijuana or nearby. IMO, if they find Amber, they will find others who are missing.

Amber Dubois: A Grandmother's Message to Her Kidnapped Granddaughter
Grandparent's Day - September 13, 2009

My beloved Amber,
Today marks seven months that you have been missing. I am sending this as my message of love to you. Survive. Do whatever you must to live. My love for you will not diminish no matter what you must do because it is constant and never ending. In these months you have changed because you must change in order to survive. Use your strength, courage, will power, intelligence and the ability to reason that God gave you. Stay alive. Hold deeply to the knowledge that you are unconditionally loved and that I am here for you now as I have always been.

[snipped]
One night we watched “Without a Trace” and the boy had been missing for seven years. You asked me if I thought his family still wanted him home and I told you that they did. Then, you asked me how long would I look for you if you went missing. I promised you that I would look until I found you or I died trying to find you. Amber, I will keep that promise to you.
