The level of security seems high given that their immediate neighborhood and larger area would likely be viewed as safe.

Likewise, the suspect's past criminal history does not include theft based offenses that could coincide with a burglary motive.

I wonder if the victims were receiving threats or getting stalked when the American Idol dreams and expectations of various contestants and declined contestants were not fulfilled?

Encino and adjacent areas have been experiencing an increase in robberies and break-ins to these expensive homes.
Their level of security appears high, yet reports are that the perp got in through an unlocked door or window. It also appears that the perp was able to scale the walls or fence, as witnessed by a next-door neighbor.

Here is an LA Times article from August 2024 reporting on a crime wave of 10 home burglaries in prior months.

This paragraph stands out for me, remember this was a year ago: "Crime statistics indicate that burglars are hitting Encino far harder than other parts of Los Angeles. Citywide, residential burglaries were up 4% from last year, the LAPD told news station KTLA-TV — compared with Encino’s 40% increase from June to July for an area south of the 101 Freeway."

LOS ANGELES — The man accused of murdering “American Idol” executive Robin Kaye and her husband was a “neighborhood junkie” who terrified his neighbors with “junkie” his antics, local told The Post.
[snip]
“We had a lot of problems with him because he’s taking drugs. Every now and then he would be outside high,” said 80-year-old Madlen Amrani. “The neighbors complained and they come and arrest him.”
LA creep charged with executing ‘American Idol’ boss terrified neighbors, was repeatedly arrested, locals reveal

I believe this was related to the time he broke his mother's ribs, so sounds like she choose not to press charges?
I don’t think she had a choice. Prosecution of domestic violence does not require the victims consent or cooperation anymore.

But that may have been the reason for the competency and conservatorship hearings.

So he lived in the neighborhood and somehow knew they were out of town.
I thought the couple was out walking their dog.

I wonder if this perp was responsible for at least some of the other neighborhood burglaries. jmo

Robin Kaye and Thomas Deluca are seen in this photo posted to social media.

During a town hall meeting Monday, Los Angeles District Attorney Nathan Hochman told concerned residents that the man charged in the killings, Raymond Boodarian, made the initial 911 call, ABC7 reported. He said Boodarian used a gun registered to one of the victims in the attack, which authorities believe happened when they arrived home unexpectedly while he was burglarizing the place. Boodarian, 22, was arrested the day after the bodies were found

  • American Idol music supervisor Robin Kaye and her musician husband Thomas Deluca were allegedly killed with their own gun before the murder suspect Raymond Boodarian called the police in their home
  • Kaye and Deluca, both 70, were found dead with gunshot wounds inside their $4.5 million Encino, Calif. home on July 14
  • The victims were believed to have been fatally shot four days prior on July 10
"It was Robyn and Tom’s gun," he said during a public safety meeting at the Encino Neighborhood Council, according to NBC News. "It wasn’t his gun. It was exceptionally tragic."

Hochman also revealed that it was Boodarian who phoned police to alert them to the crime, explaining that the suspect used his own cellphone to make the call and gave responders his name, which led authorities to later track him down.

Boodarian is believed to have entered the couple's home through an unlocked door at around 4 p.m. July 10, officials. Kaye and Deluca returned home from the grocery store and found him there, prosecutors said.

“In a matter of moments, this couple was senselessly killed in their own home as they returned from the grocery store,” Hochman said in a statement last week.

A neighbor called 911 to report a possible burglary in progress on the afternoon of the same day "but was unable to be reached during attempts to follow up," police spokesperson Jennifer Forkish said.

Over 100 concerned Encino residents attended the meeting to demand answers about why Boodarian was out on the streets even though he had been jailed last year on suspicion of battery, displaying a weapon and making threats, Encino Neighborhood Council President Josh Sautter told NBC News.

A judge dismissed the case in December after hearings concerning Boodarian's mental health, NBC Los Angeles reported.

"Mr. Boodarian got caught because he used his cellphone to contact police concerning the situation, actually identified himself by name," Hochman said during the meeting. "Police were able to ping the cellphone, find out where he lived, go to his residence and arrest him."

Bbm.
Be that as it may... his mental issues should not have excused his priors.
The residents were right to be concerned, as it has turned out !
Imo.
