I wonder if he was a hippie? The fact that he had no shoes or socks is odd. The jacket - was it a blazer or more like a windbreaker? It would be useful to see full photos of his outfit.

Several possibilities for this one...a New Year can be wholly depressing to some, he might have committed suicide. Or, if he was under the influence of something, may have bolted (barefoot) from wherever he was and fell off (or thought he could fly off) the bridge. I suppose he could've already been dead and been disposed of off the bridge, but that seems rather risky in terms of possible witnesses. I do wonder if they were able to tell if the soles of his feet were dirty. Because otherwise, both a fall and being hit repeatedly could dislodge his shoes, and we don't know if or how well shoes were looked for in the vicinity...potentially quite a distance after impact/s. Of course it likely wasn't the investigators first rodeo with a freeway fatality, so I'm guessing he WAS barefoot the whole time.

Ran over by 15 vehicles -- this UID's body was probably in very poor condition after all of that trauma (not trying to be graphic, but I would imagine that it would have been in several pieces, although it seems like all parts of the body were recovered in some way). NamUS does explicitly specify that the remains were damaged beyond visual recognition, which could be why a reconstruction isn't available despite the very short postmortem interval.

On that note, 15 vehicles well after midnight also sounds like quite a few in a relatively-short period of time, but the roads may have been unusually busy due to travel for the new year. It makes me wonder how much time had passed after the UID was hit (for the first time), the apparent multiple subsequent crashes on top of that, and his body finally being found.

RECOGNIZE THESE ITEMS?

On January 1, 1972 an unidentified white male was found on the northbound lanes of 1-5/Santa Ana Freeway in #Anaheim, California (Orange County). It is believed he jumped or fell from the Euclid Street Bridge and was struck by multiple vehicles.

The John Doe is believed to have been between 18 and 23 years of age. He is described as being well- developed and well-nourished. He was between 5'10" and 6'3" and between 180 and 200 lbs. The John Doe had reddish/brown shoulder-length, straight hair and hazel eyes.

He was found wearing a brown velour jacket, brown brushed cotton trousers ("Viceroy Jeans" brand), a white and lavender floral shirt and a wide brown leather belt. He was also wearing a silver ring with an inlaid floral design on his left pinky and a silver puzzle type of ring (one band) on his right pinky. It is noted this ring was originally sold as a 4-piece set. The John Doe was not wearing shoes and no shoes were recovered at the scene.

Please call the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children at 1-800-THE-LOST if you have any information that could help identify this young male. Reference case number 1226047.
