I wish more was released about the circumstances from when he went missing.

This link has a heartbreaking line....

"On Sunday, Sgt. Ray Framstad said searchers had found footprints leading to the canal that may belong to the little boy."

I too hope that he will be found safe, but I don't feel like that really describes Delhi ... This is the area he went missing from.. Shanks ave and Latteau Ave.. As you can see shanks comes right off the freeway..

I was looking at google maps, and the article I posted said they were searching west of hwy 99, but am I right the canal is east of the hwy? Does that mean to get to the canal he would have to cross the hwy?

Is the Merced Sun-Star the only news outlet reporting on this sweet little boy??

Video here...not sure how new it is...

http://www.mercedsunstar.com/news/article110023557.html

It says Andres is developmentally delayed. Video shows the canal.

The canal is behind their home, Andres was seen by family 'members' to walk towards the canal approx an hour before LE arrived.

I don't want to sound mean but how do you watch a 3yr old walk towards a canal and not one of them go grab him quick? If they were too close to it, so didn't have time, they would see him fall in surely?

From the screen shot I posted earlier, the part I circled is a canal.. On the map the dot is where he went missing and the blue next to it is a canal. Canals are very very common here.

I didn't understand this either. Someone SAW him walking toward the canal?! That makes no sense to me. I have a 3 year old son with developmental delays and I keep him in arms reach with my eyes on him at all times. Near water, he would not be able to let go of my hand. Same goes for near traffic, which it seems like was also the case here. At least based on those maps. The only thing I can figure is that no adult was watching him and perhaps a young child is the one who saw him wander.

Right, a child seeing him is the only thing that makes sense.

I agree. I had an adhd son that was very active. Field Trips near water scared me. He did teach himself to swim but I think he was at least 5+.
Again, I hope this child is somewhere nearby waiting to be found.

It is dark here on the east coast...I was hoping he would be found before it gets dark out on the west coast.
Do we know the age of the siblings that were watching/with him? I didn't see it in the op.

I just read an article where I swear it said he was the oldest of 3 children. I will go find it..........."Cousin Jazmin Armenta said Andres is the oldest of three brothers."

Oh wow! So 3 siblings out playing and at the age of 3 the oldest and developmentally delayed he wandered away. I am thankful the other two didnt follow. Sadly with those recent details I don't think the outcome will be that he is found safe. I so hate to think that and I am praying to be proved wrong.

There isn't much out there. It's 2.5 hours between Sacramento and Fresno, Merced is the middle a little closer to Fresno.

Is the Merced Sun-Star the only news outlet reporting on this sweet little boy??

If it is true that a 3 year old and two YOUNGER siblings were playing, unattended, near a canal......my head may explode due to anger. (And social services better step in with those other children is this is the case.)

Some of my relatives live 9 miles North, In the Turlock area. When my cousin was in an accident and became paralyzed, neighbors form all over came and volunteered the time to help rebuild their farmhouse to add ramps and special cabinets etc in their home. It is a 'small' town feel, even though it is right along the 99 freeway.

But if this poor little guy walked to the canal, first thing, there is nothing anyone can do now.

Yes, I grew up in Madera and truly sometimes there are good things about a small town, sometimes there isn't.

I wonder if it was another child or a young sibling who saw him. I really want to believe that an adult wouldn't watch a (developmentally delayed) child walk towards water.
