Found Deceased CA - Andres Tomas, 3, Merced County, 22 October 2016

If it is true that a 3 year old and two YOUNGER siblings were playing, unattended, near a canal......my head may explode due to anger. (And social services better step in with those other children is this is the case.)

Listen - I'm chiming in because I'm a mother of 3 young children. This is not a personal attack.
Maybe some folks have been there a long time ago. Some maybe now or recently. Most of y'all have not have not had 3 in rapid succession.
Most days a time when all 3 have reached homeostasis in a good way - is limited to mere seconds. At worst a handful of minutes. 'I' think my home is relatively childproof. I don't have a canal behind my house. I do have a pool. And on more than one occasion my gate has been unlocked without the pool net installed. That's reality.
All it takes is a change in routine. Experiencing unexpected circumstances. It's that easy.
Until we know more try and reserve judgement and hope for the best.

I understand where you are coming from. Just last week my 20 month old got out somehow of a secure back yard and around to my front yard in a matter of less than a minute. Scared the heck out of me.

What I don't understand here, and maybe I'm missing something, but if Andres was the oldest and he is three, how is a younger child that I'm guessing has to be two, communicating affectively what she/he saw or didn't see?

You will notice I said IF IT IS TRUE. Now if I find out a responsible adult was watching them and just took their eyes off for a minute....then my head won't explode because I am not an idiot and I realize that things can happen in an instant. But if we find it was 3 small kids playing outside alone? Nope....not in my world.

I do hope we find out more of the circumstances surrounding what happened. Because we can often learn from these sorts of incidents.

The one and only picture we have of this dear boy is a child on a see-saw or other similar playground equipment. He is certainly able to handle that apparatus, at 3 years old. What exactly is his developmental delay, I wonder, and how does that factor into his missing status? That one pic - in my opinion - shows a child who is relatively on target, developmentally.

Lol yes! Then you must've seen how many canals we have out here! It's crazy, we have one literally at the end of my street and I live next to a Jr. High and not far from a HS! I don't even live around farms or anything. There's so many that they even have this little frog mascot for the county that talks about not swimming in canals.

Idk if it's just me but the little towns close to Delhi(Hilmar, Stevenson, etc) always seem to have little boys around this age in similar situations go missing.. Like atleast once a year, if not more.. Some found alive, but most of the time they were with other children who were supposed to be watching them and they wander off [emoji30]

This is making me sick. We had lightening and pouring rain come through last night without warning (I'm currently visiting my sister in Merced). I know the police say no abduction but... I just can't imagine the child going that far. The one good thing about the storm is that the temperatures didn't drop too much last night. It's currently 65 out at 5 am. Please let him be found today[emoji1317]

There seems to be quite the outpouring of support in Delhi and the surrounding areas. Merced is about 20 miles south of Delhi. I passed by last night coming back to my sister's house and saw a convoy of sheriff and CHP personnel heading that way. The area is mainly orchards now (almonds, walnuts, etc). I imagine using a helicopter isn't feasible because of the canopies. The weather is still mild and the leaves haven't even begun to turn colors yet. I will try to drive up there today and see if they want volunteers. My sister knows the editor of the Merced Sun Star. Will have her ask if they have any new info.

A search for a missing 3-year-old boy in Delhi on Sunday focused on a canal near his home.

Andres Tomas was last seen around 4 p.m. Saturday, playing with siblings in the area of Letteau Avenue and Shanks Road, Merced County sheriff’s Sgt. Delray Shelton said.
The family’s home is one of three that backs up to the canal north of Letteau. A rusted barbed wire fence between the homes and the canal is mostly collapsed.

On Sunday, Sgt. Ray Framstad said searchers had found footprints in the fine dirt near the canal that may belong to the little boy. Foul play is not suspected.

Those canals are fast moving, even when they are low. I wonder if there's a way to figure out which way they flow, at what speed, and where the next 'barrier' is.

DELHI, Calif. (KMPH) — Police are continuing their search for a missing 3-year-old boy last seen outside a home in Delhi on Saturday.

Police said Andres Tomas was playing with another child outside. When the grandmother went to check on them, Tomas was gone.

They've been searching nearby orchards and local waterways.

If you've seen Andres Tomas, please call the Merced County Sheriff's Office at 209-385-7445.

Very often you can't see developmental delays in photos.

I'm actually not sure how a speech delay, gross motor delay, fine motor delay, etc. would show up in pictures at all.

No mention of the other children's ages. But it looks like no adult was actually watching them.

I also wonder what the stats would be on children that go missing when grandparents are supposed to be watching them. I feel like we see it a lot here.

They have slowed down the water flow to search again this morning. I hope he's just scared and hiding in an orchard.
