These poor kids, I hope they grow up in a safe, loving home...What a horrible situation, one day they'll know the truth and have to deal with it somehow.

May Zir get what he deserves.

His lawyer argued against the ruling made by the doctor in June that Zir was competent to stand trial. Zir is being evaluated again and a decision should be made by October 15th.

If he is deemed incompetent, Weems would be admitted to a state hospital until he regains competency, and if he is deemed competent the case would resume with a trial readiness conference at a yet to be determined date.

Zir Weems, the Chico man charged with murder in the strangulation death of his wife last year, has been found competent to stand trial.

It was the second time Weems’ competency had been evaluated in the case, which appeared before Butte County Superior Court Judge Robert Glusman on Thursday. He was found to be competent both times.

A new trial date was not set because Zir wants his court-appointed attorney removed from the case.

Chico man sentenced to 25 years to life for murdering wife in 2014

http://www.orovillemr.com/article/NB/20160513/NEWS/160519911

Butte County Superior Court Judge Robert Glusman sentenced defendant Zir Ion Weems, 30, for one count of first-degree murder for the death of Angelica Weems, a 23-year-old mother of four.

Before passing sentence, the judge officially denied a request to place Weems on probation. Glusman cited several reasons, including the nature, manner and seriousness of the crime and the fact that the defendant showed no remorse for his actions.

The defendant was given credit for serving 1.47 years in custody. He may be considered for parole after December 2039.
