Found Deceased CA - Anthony Mahr, 22, tubing on Sacramento River, Butte County, 20 Aug 2019

Chico State student, 22-year-old Anthony “Tony” Mahr, has been missing for almost one week after disappearing while tubing on the Sacramento River Tuesday, August 20.

The friend who reported Mahr missing, 22-year-old Brentston Rhodes, was arrested the night of Mahr's disappearance for breaking into a home. Deputies said after his arrest, Rhodes then told deputies about the floating accident earlier that day.

After an extensive search, it was determined that Rhodes had taken items from the home and he was arrested for burglary. After his arrest, deputies said he reported two of his friends missing. Rhodes apparently explained their tubes had hit a snag and all three of them had fallen into the river.

Deputies were able to find one of the friends, 22-year-old Lavina Corsbie, in the Chico area Tuesday night. Corsbie told deputies she was able to swim to safety after her tube hit a snag.

Interesting. I wonder if the home he broke into was a seasonal cabin or something? Unless he was lost and breaking in for supplies this sounds pretty bizarre.

He only tells LE about the boating accident hours later after he's arrested? Unless they were under the influence when the accident happened and afraid to report it I can't see why this wasn't reported much earlier.

I'm not getting this story at all. The three of them are tubing. I'm not really sure what it means that "they hit a snag and fell into the river", but then two of them float off down river. One guy goes off to later break into houses, apparently unconcerned about his "friends" floating away? Meanwhile, one of those two floating away manages to swim safely to shore (and goes on her merry way?), and yet no one reports anything about anyone missing, even though no one knows where the third guy is.

It's pretty much tradition in Chico to tube the river and drink too much. Usually have a designated driver at the other end to cart the tubes and tubers back to town. It's still deep, murky and sometimes dangerous at times. I do not understand just leaving friends to struggle and possibly drown ....JMO

If you search Anthony's name in Facebook and read posts, someone (STB) posted what seems to be a copy of a blog type post by his (Anthony's) mom that gives a bunch more info she got about the incident directly from the guy that is currently in jail. It is heartbreaking, and really maddening that no one sought help immediately after this happened. I hope they are able to find Anthony.

Just went tubing out here in the Salt River and can not imagine for one moment leaving anyone behind. Who does that? Would he have ever told anyone about what happened? Like, had he not been caught in the burglary? This is just so so odd IMO.

I have no clue what it's all about but perhaps they need to question the 3rd friend who allegedly went tubing that day. This is terrible, surprised there is not more going on to try to find him... but where?

Body reported in Sacramento River near where Chico State student disappeared

Butte County Search and Rescue responded to the Sacramento River just west of Chico Thursday morning after a fisherman reported seeing a body in the water.

The report came from the river just south of Highway 32. Rescue crews were headed to the location, but as of 10 a.m. they were unable to confirm if a body had been found.

updated to say it was an adult male.

If these people were this guy's friends... wow... to just leave him like that when they (allegedly) saw him struggling in the water... No thanks, not the friends I'd want.

I hope LE can find out if he did indeed drown (if this is him) or if this was something else. No one deserves this. No one.
