operator error, fatal in this case, sad, but important reminder to read your operator's manual, know your vehicle. oh and use parking brake.

Did you buy a "Jeep"?

why? and no need for quotes on the word jeep

Apologies for sounding rude, I was emotional about Antons death. We needed a new car this year to tow a new caravan, we wanted to buy the Grand Cherokee however couldn't get past all the recalls and problems. (needed a reliable car long term for outback travel)
The operators manual in the car we bought must be about 300 pages long! I believe it should be very clear that your car is in park mode, his death was avoidable.

Yes, the park lock or pawl in an automatic transmission is not designed to hold a vehicle on an incline without the parking brake. It is also wise to set your parking brake when you are in a parking position where you can be bumped from either in front or behind by another vehicle because this can break the mechanism in your transmission (or cause it to disengage) if that is all that's holding your vehicle.

General design that shows just what is holding your car in park.

Never mind that his car is under recall. For what looks to be exact same issue that killed him.
