Anu Hobson had been reported missing Wednesday.

"Seeing how this story is unfolding, it's even more shocking that something like this would happen to such a wonderful, wonderful great-hearted person," said Karina Naringahon.

Karina is a longtime friend of Anu. She is hoping someone will come forward with some answers about what happened to her friend.

A short timeline shows the couple's vehicle was last seen on Valentine's Day on a traffic camera off Elk Grove Boulevard in Sacramento. Someone then reported them missing the next day. The day after that, police arrested Anu's husband, Greg. The arrest comes as police don't even know where Anu is located.

No-body homicides are different. They're a little unique but they're not impossible," said Placer County District Attorney Morgan Gire.

Gire remembers the case of 27-year-old Christie Wilson, who vanished in 2005 after a night of gambling at the Thunder Valley Casino in Lincoln. Her killer was tried and convicted even though her body wasn't found for 15 years.

"So the police must have enough evidence sufficient for them to make that arrest, based on physical evidence or the absence of evidence suggesting that the victim is still alive," said Gire.

Gire says while all murder cases are difficult and heartbreaking, no-body homicides are perhaps the toughest considering family and friends can't find closure with their loved ones still out there.

(KTXL) — Greg Hobson, a Fairfield man arrested on suspicion of killing his wife, was arraigned in the Solano County Superior Court on Tuesday.

Hobson was detained after being reported missing along with his wife. When officials announced his arrest, they advised that his wife, Anu Anand Hobson, remained missing, but that evidence indicated she may be dead.

In Hobson’s court appearance, he did not enter a plea but did ask to be represented by a public defender.

The Solano County District Attorney put in a no-bail request for Hobson, which the court granted, but it could change later.

The district attorney’s office said that the judge also granted Hobson’s children a no-contact order, meaning he cannot contact them in person, through mail or online.

A 61-year-old Fairfield man faces further arraignment in Solano County Superior Court for the Valentine’s Day slaying of his wife.

Gregory Grant Hobson, clad in a striped jail jumpsuit and looking haggard, appeared Tuesday in Department 11 for further proceedings in the case. Judge William J. Pendergast ordered him to return at 1:30 p.m. March 7 in the Justice Center in Fairfield.

During the brief proceeding, it was unclear if Hobson entered a plea to a first-degree murder charge. He was represented by Chief Deputy Public Defender Oscar Bobrow. Chief Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn appeared for the people.

As previously reported, Pendergast has granted him time to hire an attorney, use the services of a public defender temporarily, or, if unable to pay for a private lawyer, maintain the Public Defender’s services.

Remains found have been positively identified as being Anu.

This is so sad, by all accounts she was a lovely person. I'm glad for her family's sake that she was located, but have the greatest sympathy for them having to live through this nightmare.

FAIRFIELD, Calif. —
Fairfield police on Tuesday identified the burned remains of a woman found in Fresno County as 53-year-old Anu Anand Hobson, whose husband was arrested last month in connection with her murder after she disappeared.

Fairfield police said that based on the evidence they found, they believed Anu was killed, but her body was not with Greg. Her remains were found in a rural unincorporated area of Fresno County last Friday.

Officers used DNA from the remains to identify the body as Anu's.

"Our thoughts are with Anu's family as they receive this heartbreaking news," the Fairfield Police Department said in a release. "We can only hope this discovery brings some level of closure to the family as they grieve."

Greg faces a murder charge, police said. He will appear in court on Thursday.

A 61-year-old Fairfield man accused of the mid-February death of his wife sat silently, looking haggard and lacking sleep, as his lawyer entered a not-guilty plea to a murder charge Thursday in Solano County Superior Court.

Gregory Grant Hobson’s attorney, Solano County Chief Deputy Public Defender Oscar J. Bobrow, entered the plea during the early afternoon session in Department 11, where Hobson faced jail arraignment, in the Justice Center in Fairfield.

Hobson registered no visible emotional response to Bobrow’s statement to Judge William J. Pendergast during the brief proceeding in the Justice Center in Fairfield.

The judge then assigned the case to Department 23, Judge John B. Ellis’ courtroom, and ordered Hobson to return there at 8:30 a.m. April 13 for a readiness conference and a preliminary hearing setting.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn will lead the prosecution. His criminal complaint, filed Feb. 21, indicated investigators believe Hobson killed Anu Anand Hobson, 53, of Fairfield, on or around Feb. 14, Valentine’s Day.

Hobson’s latest court proceeding came two days after Fairfield police confirmed Anu’s death and nearly four weeks after he was arrested on suspicion of her death.
