Barbara Lea Norton
Date of birth: 30 April 1961
Barbara is a white female, 5 feet 1 inch tall, weighing 130 pounds, with gray eyes and brown hair. She was 53 years old when she disappeared on 4 April 2014.
Barbara is a longtime resident of Mendocino County. She is known to have given birth twice by 1986. She also has a troubled background; in December 1999, she severely stabbed a domestic partner and was charged with attempted murder. Disposition of this case is unknown.
On 25 December 2009, Barbara was arrested on suspicion of using a controlled substance. Disposition of this case is also unknown.
By 2014, Barbara had settled into a transitory existence. Although she lived with friends on property in the unincorporated area of Willits CA, (probably the suburb of Brooktrails) she would sometimes take off for days or weeks at a time. Although she had no vehicle, she was a notable pedestrian.
By April, Barbara was stressed and depressed. She was broke and out of groceries. On 4 April 2014, she texted a friend with the message, “Take care”. That is her last known contact.
On 8 April 2014, she was reported missing by the friend she had texted. LE searched Barbara's home and its vicinity. While unsuccessful in locating Barbara, the searchers did find her ID, cell phone, and purse in her residence. LE also interviewed a family member living on the property, as well as her neighbors and friends. Barbara is considered an endangered missing person.
There seems to be two LE agencies investigating this case.
