I still want to know why the husband mentioned someone could've taken her to Vegas.
Or at least he mentioned to broaden the search area to include Vegas.
Why there ?
Sticks out in my mind.

Me too.

Who runs around today without a cell phone? Older folks may not use a computer, notebook, latest tech gizmo, but a PHONE? Especially bc she’s not a home body from all appearances. Travels all over the place. She may not text. Not use internet on phone. But to talk? Come on.
Maybe verified family member could help out here, if they know.
He already did. Said he had heard she didn't have one.

Thanks, PM.
For LE to say she was NOT abducted tells me they think she could've perished after being lost in the elements ?

But there must be other sources as well ?
I was thinking if she was taken ... it was something like the Sherry Arnold case ?
I don't think they said she was NOT abducted, just that they have no evidence of that so they don't THINK she was. IOW, they haven't ruled it out. MOO

Statistics would say, in the event of death from a medical event, the person would be found.
All deaths are a medical event. Whether your heart stops bc of a heart attack, or bullet or stabbing. The medical event is heart stopped.
Drowning. Strangled. Can’t breathe.
I’m sure you meant something else, but I can’t figure it out. If you would clarify your post, that would be great.

Media Interviews, Editing

^sbm bbm^ Just jumping off your post and not disagreeing w the part I snipped, but ----

In ^ interview, is it possible, RT did not skip right to abduction? IDK, maybe?
Sometimes interviewees statements are cut to focus on a better soundbite, catchier phrase, and w other interviews simply for lack of broadcast time or space/column inches. In watching/reading, I often wonder what reporter may have edited out.

*slapping my head* I hadn't even thought about media editing interviews. Years ago I did a telephone interview (set up by my employer) with a large news radio station. When the interview came out, it had been jumbled and rearranged, and some of my answers connected to questions I wasn't asked. I sounded like a complete airhead.

MOO I would like to see the complete, UNEDITED versions of his interviews. How they are edited can change the meaning and tone of the words said.

Maybe because they were often out of cellphone range and/or because they have a landline. Maybe she didn't want to purchase one just for travel. I have no idea. MOO
One thing I think we can all agree on, LE knows if she has/had a cell phone.

Would you want to disappear in a bikini top, cap, shirts and hiking boots? Really?

there is a scenario i will not mention again, where robbie helps her disappear.

Sticks out in my mind.
Maybe BT was having relations or trouble with someone from Vegas and RT thought that person was coming to pick her up or in his mind abduct her. Could have been someone she met online or an old fling.

Not a very likely scenario but you never know.

I wonder if she had any jewelry on at the time of her disappearance? Wedding ring etc.. not because I think she was mugged, just asking for identification purposes.

Was she carrying a purse or bag? Sorry if that has been mentioned.

There was some speculation early on that the Vegas idea could have come from the reporter. It was a Vegas newspaper, so a local angle would make the story more interesting.

Hypothetical interview.

Husband expresses the abduction idea.

Reporter: “Do you think they could have taken her to Las Vegas?”

Husband: “I guess so.”

Reporter runs with it.

(Note that the above is merely my speculation, not genuine quotes. And that, based on my personal experience, reporters sometimes operate this way.)

I do get a very odd sense from this case and I do have to say that the absence of any family or friends coming forward to publicly speak to the media to support RT is concerning to me. For example, "He is a great husband, they love travelling together....he buys her favourite beer every Friday....."

We haven't heard anything much at all in the ways of interviews (again from family, friends, neighbours, co-workers) to incite the public to help find this woman (if she was picked up, or abducted) and change the headline from being the bikini-clad woman who went missing in the Mojave Desert to something that tells us about her as a person who is missed and loved by many people.

Nothing out there to help the public get to know Barbara, to make people invested in finding her (again, if she was abducted or picked up.) I would love to hear about her hobbies, like, for example; "She loved to volunteer.....garden.....ballroom dance......swim.....be a Grandma" Anything to 'personalize' her from being a flashy headline to a person who needs to be brought home safely. Now.

We are all strangers to her here and are hoping desperately to do anything we can do to help find her. Why hasn't a single person who knows her said anything in msm other than her husband?

I would love know more about Barbara and who she is as person....she looks like she would be a pretty wonderful lady to get to know.

I hope this all came out right.... JMO

Us being told she had no cell phone is really bothering me.
If she made a trip to Hong Kong a couple of months ago alone, without Robbie, did she not talk to him while she was there? Did she borrow others phones? Did she use the phone in her room, if she stayed in a hotel? How would she communicate with anyone while she was there?
Someone help me out here.

my dads wife had to teach her how to use the phone we gave her. she used it while she was visiting and left it behind when she left. i have a family plan where i have three extra sims. use one for business phone, one for wireless router (can get internet anywhere, quite useful)...

when friends or family come i usually give them a sim to use while here. for barb my dads wife gave her old cellphone to put sim in.

old lady with cellphone can be entertaining. she jived with it alright.

she insisted on staying in hotel, so we insisted she have a phone.

WE DID NOT WANT HER TO GET LOST.

Sometimes when on an outing where I want to focus on quality time without distractions, I intentionally leave my phone at home, especially if I’m with my husband since he always has his.

I feel so sad for you Dbdb11....Barb must of had a great time visiting with all of you , even under the circumstances.
I am wondering if Barb was able to purchase her own ticket for that trip and the missed one?
