So just to clarify the phone situation--RT did have his phone with him. Barbara did not have a phone on her, but does she have a cell phone? Did RT have it in his pack or was it at at home or at the RV? Do we know that?

VI reported that she did not have a cell phone.

I'm not sure what that means, let me explain: my mother owns a cell phone. It's a nice phone, it's on my parent's plan so it has service. She does not use it at all, does not bring it with her, I'm not even sure if it is charged. So if you asked me the question "does your mom have a cell phone" - what's my answer, yes or no?

Many people have posted their points of view on this. If it doesn't make sense to you, it doesn't make sense to you and won't ever no matter how much it is explained. The point is, many actual murderers have gone on TV and told falsehoods about the disappearance of their loved ones, either because they were caught off guard by a news crew showing up at their door, encouraged by LE to do so, or really thought they were smooth operators. We are just speculating here.

Agree 100%. Child murderer here in the Uk Ian Huntley. Said on camera something to the effect of "I was the last person to see them". Got LE thinking..how does he know he was the last?? Could name too many others, it happens often.

I applaud and appreciate the creative thinking that led to this idea.

And it makes me wonder whether trackers were a part of the SAR.

I mean, obviously, all searchers were looking for signs, evidence, etc. But I mean those trackers that can follow sign that others don't even notice. Even on hard-packed soil, etc. I forget the details but years ago read a fascinating account of a trained tracker in the Australian outback, not an easy place to track (understatement I'm sure). I hope someone with those kinds of skills was brought in to look for BT.

If I were telling the truth and LE told me my LD test read invalid I would not believe them. Because they could do that...lie to me.
I would then do whatever it took to clear me.

If something had been planned ahead of time, I feel like there would be a better story.

I have been dwelling on this possibility as well. If the husband has a history of impulse control issues or domestic violence, this would reinforce that speculation.
However, I have heard nothing to support that speculation, so I am still remaining open minded.
Such a sad story, and I pray there are some revelations soon. Something about this tells me we will probably never know the outcome. Hope I'm wrong.

I was looking through the media thread because I'm not up to speed with this one. He did say he was tired as a way of explanation.

I don't know what to make of him saying LE told him he was showing deception on the polygraph and was as he stated 'prime suspect'. I've heard so many people using TV and film 'police language' colloquially but incorrectly that it could mean nothing at all. Someone did point out earlier though that RT may have been stating that to the media as a communication to a third party who he cannot contact through normal means due to the 'heat' of the situation and because LE have access to his cell etc. ....it's definitely puzzling, every part of it

But, hypothetically, if someone accidentally or otherwise, committed a fatal act on the spur of the moment, there would not BE the time to concoct some watertight alibi. Not fortunately having been in that position, I don't know how the human mind would react; unless a cold-blooded psychopath, I would imagine that in most cases the thoughts would be scrambled and just rummaging for SOMETHING to explain away what has happened.

I always remember the Tia Sharp case. Immediately the mother's bf did that TV interview, I thought guilty. Why? Because - and a common trait in liars - he was giving way too much inconsequential detail, how he was putting the rubbish out, doing the cleaning etc. And all the time he knew she was dead, up in the loft.

She's somewhere and whatever the outcome she needs to be brought home.

ETA I obviously have no proof, just a feeling, that the picture of her w the hat and bikini top wasn't taken on that particular day. But I know LE knows by now whether it was or not because it should have a date/time stamp on it

I think the picture you mentioned was a zoomed in verion of the original. It was discussed in an earlier thread. Therefore, date and time stamp would not be shown.

I have wondered the same. A man-tracker has a skill set that is more focused and they really get into specifics of a track. This capability is used in wilderness searches, criminal cases, even in the military. Some SAR teams are lucky to have a small team of them with that focused discipline.

IMO, Arizona has some excellent man-trackers for a few reasons.

I fear they may have a tough time since SAR spent nine days there. Any subtle tracks will be gone.

The nephew said he was a man of few words. I think RT was disgusted about all of this and just plain tired to boot. He thought this was going to be a fun quick outing and it turned into he*l on earth.
