He said in a 2017 Forbes interview that he saw an unmet need for people in addiction recovery to find and connect with peers. Sober Grid, he explained, enables its users to tap into a global sober community for immediate connection and peer support.

His aunt, Rhonda Mann, told the Globe earlier this month that Beau’s “whole mission as an adult was trying to help people who were in the clutches of addiction.”

“He was just such a bright light,” she added. “He was one of those guys who have a big smile, that you couldn’t help but really like. You could tell he was all heart.”

Mann and his fiancé, Jason Abate, had recently discussed starting the process of adopting a child, The Daily Beast reported.

“He was begging me to start a family and I really wanted to start a family too so I was really excited,” Abate told the news outlet.

On Uber you can change your destination on the app after the ride has started. You would tell the driver you needed a different address and then formally make the change on the app so the pricing would adjust based on the length of the new trip. I take Ubers/Lyfts extremely regularly; they have always asked me to make any changes in the app for tracking/safety/$$ purposes, as opposed to doing it "off the record"

“James Terry was hired by the Mann family after Beau’s disappearance and said he believes some of the facts in his possession make for a compelling narrative, even if it lacks a final act.

Terry doesn’t call it a "theory" as there are holes in his knowledge but he does say he can connect several dots in the case. He says Mann was on drugs, probably suffered a drug overdose and died in the home of a friend who was also a known drug addict.

According to Terry, Mann’s lifestyle was at best an open secret and more realistically, just something people knew even if they didn’t talk about it.

He said Mann had continued to use drugs despite claims that he had kicked the habit. Terry said there is evidence that a known drug-dealer visited Mann’s home in the days before he went missing and that Mann’s behavior on the day he disappeared is indicative of his habits while using drugs.”

How sad. Addiction is so horrible and claims so many lives. I hope Beau's loved ones are doing okay.

Indeed.

I hope the computer turns up one day. It could provide a lot of answers, especially for the family - as long as the data hasn't been wiped of course.

Late last year Jason spoke exclusively to the U.S. Sun about his frustration with the police for their inaction:

Abate has publicly criticized the amount of time it took the Santa Monica Police Department to locate his husband-to-be and was shocked to hear they closed the investigation and ruled his cause of death as undetermined.

As a haunting reminder of the life-altering tragedy comes to pass, he's still fighting for answers.

"No one has really said anything," he exclusively told The U.S. Sun.

"So it's hard to give you any context around what they have found."

Abate slammed any idea of closure, and instead said he's made the painful decision to move forward with questions left unanswered.

Jason, if you see this, please be assured that Beau will not be forgotten, and I hope you get the answers that he, you and his family deserve. Please look after yourself. I wish you all the very best.

Thank you for sharing this. I think, and I empathize with it, the family and especially his husband/boyfriend, either have a really hard time understanding that Beau was in active addiction or simply don't want to admit to it because Beau's "brand" was exactly the opposite of that and want to mantain his name "clean". Either way, there's no doubt they have been clearly suffering with his loss and trying to hold onto something that can minize that pain in any way. It's a shame, but this is another classic case of someone in active addiction losing his life. Maybe his body was dumped where he was found, and that's wrong, maybe he actually died there while using with someone else and was left there, which is also wrong, but we are talking about people in active addiction, many of them like Beau, trying to portray themselves as living a sober lifestyle. Anyways, I hope they can grive Beau and find peace for themselves.
