Amelia Andrews is holding out hope for the return of her son, who has been missing from Palm Springs since Sept. 28.

Bill Andrews, 65, was last seen by his friend, Johanna Spielman, who dropped him off at his Palm Springs home around 6:15 p.m. after a day of barhopping downtown. Bill has not been seen or heard from since.

Family, friends seek info on Palm Springs man missing since Sept. 28

"It's been more than three weeks now so we are finding it difficult to keep our hopes up," said Amelia, who lives in Illinois.

Amelia said her son had recently been going through a period of stress.

"He was in a very stressful situation, and I feel that it had affected him to the point where he wasn't thinking straight," Amelia said.

Spielman said she also knew Bill had been under stress because he was going to have to move from Palm Springs, but had not seen anything that would explain where he is and what has happened.

"No, not at all," she said. "This is just really bizarre, I don't even know what to think about it. I know he was upset about having to move, but I can't imagine he just walked off and left his cat and all his stuff."

Palm Springs Police Sgt. Mike Casavan confirmed that a missing person report had been filed Sept. 29. He said police are continuing to look into the case but have no updates.

Bill left his wallet and ID and there has been no activity on his cell phone or bank accounts, Amelia said. Anyone with information on his whereabouts can call 760-323-8116.

Spielman said she is becoming less optimistic that Bill will be found as time goes on.

Billy's loved ones must feel absolutely blessed to have had such an amazing man in their life. His caring and charitable spirit has undoubtedly touched many lives, both human and not. It seems he had a deep concern for all who were less fortunate than he was. He was only 65. A great person gone way too soon and a such huge loss for our world. He will be missed. My condolences go out to all who love him.
