If you go to Megan's Law Search site, you will see 4 sex offenders living close by to Borrego Park, I can only assume the police would visit those homes first and thoroughly check inside and question those predators...

Another thing I noticed in the LATimes article this morning is that his mom referred to him in the past tense. Could be nothing, but it struck me as strange.

But you know, PetDetective, even though it's the LA Times, that could be a typo. Nowhere else in her quotes does she reference him that way, only once.
“He’s a phenomenal, unique, interesting person,” she said. “Blaze was like any normal kid his age at an Ivy League school.”
http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-bernstein-search-20180108-story.html

And just before that one, she's using present tense. Maybe it was just a natural speech slur, maybe a typo...or maybe she's thinking Penn won't let him go back to school there when he returns. Maybe it's his student status she's referencing there, like she's accepted BB won't be going back to the Ivy League.

Apologies if this has been posted already, but it seems to put a different slant on things. Did he actually run away? And if he did, the 'friend' didn't wait for very long for him!

"The teen's parents, speaking from their Lake Forest California home, said he was last seen with a friend at a local park, not far from their residence.

He didn't tell his family he was leaving.

The friend, who police are calling a witness, told authorities Bernstein ran from Borrego Park around 11 p.m. Tuesday evening.

"He thought he was playing a joke or something. Thought he was taking off and we don't know why specifically," said Gideon Bernstein, Blaze's father. "He was waiting around for him and he just like didn't come back."

I just got caught up reading. Woke up at 3 am- looks like right after I went to bed at 8 pm, some action took place that shouldn't have on the other thread- glad I missed it. I have a nasty sinus infection, and the pharmacy ran out of the medicine that my doctor prescribed- bbboooo hiiiissssss! I think I'm heading back to bed soon- I wish I had stayed asleep *sigh*.

Interesting that they're checking the reservoir area. I dont know what to think anymore, just hope that Blaze is ok and comes home soon.

Wow, great find and now it really is going to set our heads spinning out of orbit today on here (just what I need with a bad sinus infection-ugh!).

I did not read this article at all, and I do not believe anyone has posted this anywhere on either thread, either. If this was the case, then it appears he took off on his own doing- unless the driver is lying,......

From the article:
The friend, who police are calling a witness, told authorities Bernstein ran from Borrego Park around 11 p.m. Tuesday evening.

"He thought he was playing a joke or something. Thought he was taking off and we don't know why specifically," said Gideon Bernstein, Blaze's father. "He was waiting around for him and he just like didn't come back."
This is the first time I recall any mention of "a joke." I haven't seen this phrase used before in any article, interview, or discussion -- so where is the author getting it from???

I'd like to contact abc7ny, find the journalist, and ask how she/he got this quote. Doesn't feel right.

The driving friend seems to have come up with at least 3 different stories:

1. He went to the bathroom then when he returned, Blaze was gone

2. He took Blaze to meet a third party

3. Blaze ran away from him

4. The friend just sat in the car while Blaze walked into the park (taken from NYPost)

And LE aren't finding this suspicious?

From the lawyer friend (ADD) making the first statements on behalf of the family (and saying nothing since), to the 'friend' coming out with 3 different versions of events, to mum painting a sunny picture of a happy family, my gut feeling is they know far more than they are letting on.

You take care of yourself! Those SI's can be brutal, as I'm sure you know, actively. [emoji852]️

Okay, so I'm not the only one who's seeing the "joke" thing for the first time. It's not shown to be transcribed from an interview segment in the video. The video doesn't even have a journalist sign-off, or whatever you'd call it. There is no byline.

WHO wrote the article? What's the source? Before I get into the "joke" thing, I want it confirmed it was said in the first place.

- Blaze ran
- Friend thinks Blaze is joking
- Thought he was taking off
Another version suggesting that the friend's actions might be questionable. Of course, we don't know what he said in details when he was interrogated. Based on what is available to the public, why didn't he alert authorities? I keep asking this over and over again. If not at around midnight, at least when he went back at 4 AM? If he was so concerned to go back at 4 AM, this means he just couldn't go to sleep, something still bothered him that made him look out for Blaze one more time. He goes back at 4 AM, but he doesn't reach out to his family or him in the morning at a reasonable time. How does this make any sense to anyone? I take my friend to the park, I leave him there, he doesn't answer my texts after he leaves in a dark park in the middle of the night, his phone goes off, so no call from him all night, like "hey dude, please give me a ride back home - or can you pick me up from XY", nothing. I go back 5 hours later to look for him, then I go home or wherever he went. If it was a prank/joke, then no one will wait 5 hours to make his friend wonder around for him at night. I'll play the prank for like let's say 10 minutes, 15 minutes if I'd want to exaggerate and then I call him "it's just a prank, bro". I don't know what LE might know which excluded this friend from the list of suspects or person of interest, but the vague information we have on what might have happened there screams that he knows more than just a joke.

Yes, this joke part is intriguing, to say the least. It isn't adding up to me. If you were so dar gone concerned about your friend that you would go back five hours later, why wouldn't you call or visit his family to make sure he didn't get home safe and sound? Why wait for someone to track you down on his phone or computer at home, if you were so dar gone worried about him to go back at 4 am?

I wonder if the parents believe his story, or if they are just playing the role that they do, per LE, to cause him to relax and make him screw up. I believe that if this had been the case from the beginning, his parents would have mentioned this joke part- it might be a good indicator to me that Blaze had a reason to run away from this person, hence why he didn't answer his texts.

Something is just very hinky and off about this new statement about the friend thinking it was a prank. Three different stories about his disappearance, and now they're searching the reservoir area.

So, what happened to the original story that Blaze was going to meet another friend in the park? Now it was a prank, and there was no one there in the park to begin with?

Is this a new interview that took place yesterday, or is the journalist getting this from a previous interview?

I've written the abc7ny station to inquire about the identity of the journalist and the interview source details. Waiting for a reply....

I'm considering the joke thing rumor until I confirm the source.

Exactly. By then he knew where he picked Blaze up from, he knew his address. It's not nice to wake someone up at 4 AM, but in this situation it could have been crucial. Even if he was thinking about waking up his parents and shied away from the idea, there still was another option: 911.

Thanks, hun. I hope this goes away soon, it's a nasty one!

This is the first that I have heard about the joke business- now that is THREE different stories by this high school buddy and they're all different:

1. He drove him to the park to meet a friend in the park.

2. He (friend) went to the restroom, while Blaze already started walking a trail into the park, he was gone by the time he got out of the bathroom. Then, a couple of days later after this version came out, friend said Blaze ran into the park while he went to the bathroom.

3. Now friend claims he thought this was a joke? Seeing that a reporter wrote it and it's on a major news site, we could deem this as a legitimate news source, yet why is this just coming out now?

It is a direct quote on their official site. I know the media messes it up sometimes, but the ABC to falsely quote someone in a situation like this seem to be very unlikely. Hope they will reply.

The thing is, is this is from a major news site (the article). Where there's smoke, there's fire- I, too, would love to know where this reporter got this information from. A joke? Really? I doubt Blaze was having fun running off into the wilderness at that time of night by himself, just to pull a prank on a friend. No way.

Exactly! Call the cops, or if you don't want to wake them up at 4 am, wait until 6 am and call or visit. At least if he had called the cops, he would be much more credible to me. He didn't even call his family to see if he was home at all, they had to track him down.

My hope is that Blaze is off somewhere applying to culinary schools and writing a best selling cookbook.

Where are you Blaze?

Here's another thing that has me baffled- his mother said his glasses were left behind. His father said that Blaze might have been wearing his contact lenses when he went out. As someone who has worn them in the past, I know from experience, you have to take them out to either dispose of them if you have the disposable kind, or clean them nightly if you have the daily use kind.

Did the parents check to see if he took his contact lense case with him? Did they at least check the case to see if they were still in there, or did he grab a pack of disposable lenses and take them with him? He would have to take them out eventually, especially after all this time. That's what makes me think he didn't run away. If he can't see well enough without correction, why would he run off into the dark woods alone at night without being able to see?

I hope they reply, too. I'm sorry, I just want to clear up some ambiguity and discrepancy I noticed. I really want to reconcile the timing on the joke quote. Could be something, could be nothing.
