Premeditated...

Agreed. Even if a "kiss on the lips" is true, how does one explain they just happened to have a great stabbing utensil on their person to murder someone?

I don't see anything white nationalist on these links unless I'm missing something

Look at the bottom quotes

Wellll that explains a lot. I'd definitely say rage was a factor, especially if he really was interested in Blaze and really did not want to come out.

According to the OC Register article, BB said on social media in June that SW was about to "hit on him" but that

"he made me promise not to tell anyone … but I have texted every one, uh oh.”

On the night that Bernstein went missing, according to the affidavit, he and Woodward parked outside a Hobby Lobby in Lake Forest. The affidavit also noted that Woodward told investigators that Bernstein kissed him on the lips, and that he pushed Bernstein away."

So it sounds like in the interviews, SW portrayed BB as coming on to him and him as resisting. That seems unlikely to me. In my opinion, it seems more likely that the murder either arose from SW's spurned advances to BB, or that SW may have lured BB to the meeting to exact revenge for BB's outing of SW. After all, who brings a knife to a friendly catch-up or make-out session? Did SW always carry a knife?

Horrible. This new news. Just...horrible.

Not sure what kind of knife it was - a lot of people carry knives of some sort around with them. There's one on my keychain, it's not much of a knife (1.6" blade), good for opening packages and such. I suppose it could kill someone if you stabbed them enough with it.

Also note the OC article says what the camping equipment was:

Woodward was arrested Friday after crime lab technicians determined that blood found on a sleeping bag in his possession belonged to Bernstein, the Register learned.

So sleeping bag possibly used to drag Bernstein out to where he was buried? Which would explain why no blood was found at the park.

The entire thing is for white nationalist hence the name of it and all of the comments.

He was riding on the notion of Camping: sleeping bag, a knife for hiking and grilling...wreaks of premeditation! I’m sure he was enraged with jealousy over the many great things going on for BB.

So disgusting.

This is where the social media of BBs friends will hopefully have merit. I know that some of his friends were afraid to talk until SW was in custody for fear of their life. There is much info about BB having no interest in SW, and SW couldn’t let it go.

The sleeping bag was most likely a dual purpose decoy.

SW is disgusting through and through. I hope he gets charged with a premeditated murder because it's what this was. Blaze never had a chance.

Did not expect a stabbing like that. Presumably there would be a lot of blood... but no blood seen at the park apparently.

So from this article, we learned that Blaze was stabbed, therefore Sam had some kind of stabbing weapon.

We learned there was blood evidence on a sleeping bag, which was Blaze's.

According to this article, Blaze knew Sam was going to hit on him but wanted it kept a secret. It wasn't.

So now we have a potential motive, we have a potential cause of death, we have opportunity, and we very well could have premeditation. All rolled up into one neat little case. Justice for Blaze.

“Investigators said in the affidavit that as he recounted that part of his story, Woodward clenched his jaw and his fists, saying “he wanted to tell Blaze to get off of him.”...”

That sounds like third person reference to self...MPD reach?

I wonder who gave them this info:

A search warrant affidavit obtained by the Orange County Register indicates that 19-year-old Bernstein may have been planning to sexually pursue Woodward, the Register learned.

So SW kept possession of a sleeping bag that had BB's blood on it. No other mention in the article of blood evidence. There must have been a lot with more than 20 stab wounds. Maybe the blood on the sleeping bag was small and SW didn't notice it? JMO.

Yes! Justice for Blaze! I'm hoping for additional federal hate crime charges to be filed as well so SW can never, ever get out of prison in anything but a casket.

If the SM from June is accurate, it sounds like BB was planning to "out" SW. Maybe that was the entire reason for them meeting. Not a very good reason to meet someone IMHO.

Maybe BB's computer/electronic records?

Maybe electronic messages between the two or messages between other friends?

Sheriff’s investigators were led to Woodward by entries in Bernstein’s social media accounts. In text conversations made in June, according to the affidavit, Bernstein told two female friends about his interaction with Woodward.

In one conversation, Bernstein wrote that Woodward was about to “hit on me” and “he made me promise not to tell anyone … but I have texted every one, uh oh.”

On the night that Bernstein went missing, according to the affidavit, he and Woodward parked outside a Hobby Lobby in Lake Forest. The affidavit also noted that Woodward told investigators that Bernstein kissed him on the lips, and that he pushed Bernstein away.

Investigators said in the affidavit that as he recounted that part of his story, Woodward clenched his jaw and his fists, saying “he wanted to tell Blaze to get off of him.”

BBM

That looks like a motive for murder. But I don't see it as a federal hate crime. I see it as a personal 'hate' crime. I think it was revenge and anger.

Absolutely beautiful. Reading that made me cry and made me really, really angry at the monster who took this young, brilliant, promising man's life from his loved ones and from this World.

Thank you, pamelado2, for posting his obit.

And who knows what this man might have done to improve our lives or the lives of others living in other countries? He set wide horizons for himself, I believe, and he was just beginning to collect the tools and to discover what he wanted to do next. We have lost someone special. :(
