Honestly, I think some folks would rather believe it was a crime of passion than a hate crime, which makes it premeditated.
Who wants to believe that anyone that young is involved in such a despicable and evil group? It unnerves us to think that these groups really do exist and Blaze was a victim of one (MOO). Oh sure, we've heard of these groups existing, in papers and on the news, but to hear that an old friend did this to someone who trusted him and had no idea that when he left the house that night, that he would never return again, just shocks many people to their core.
Then people started pointing fingers at religion and Boy Scouts. Everyone wants to point a finger somewhere as to the cause of this evil and sick act- bad parenting, pressure in school, peers not accepting him, religion, Boy Scouts, mental illness- we all want to point to a cause because there just HAS to be a reason why he did this. I've seen people claim his upbringing shaped him into this evil monster, mental illness, social media embarrassment that may have festered, gay hook up that disgusted him afterwards. Yet with everything that we've all come up with, we still have the same ending- Blaze is dead, and ONLY SW knows why right now. ONLY SW.
It does appear to be a hate crime, yet I look at my own son, who is not much older than SW, and it makes me shudder to think that someone their age could have so much anger and hatred in them that they would risk life in prison to kill a person who was once a friend, at least. My son, who loves sports, playing hockey on the lake outback, having fun with friends, who's caring and compassionate- and I look at SW and I say to myself "what in God's name caused this boy to do this? Did his parents create this monster? Did his peers? Is he mentally ill and easily lead down the wrong path, trying to fit in?"
These questions keep haunting me every time I look at this thread. I haven't disappeared. I haven't defended SW, though I did say for the time being, that I don't blame the parents for this because even if they had similar beliefs to their son, neither one has ever killed anyone for not sharing their same beliefs- at least, that we know of, they haven't hurt or killed anyone.
The blame lies with SW for this murder, but why oh why this young man would throw everything away along with his precious freedom to do this, is just surreal to me, I just can't comprehend this at all.
