I cant even imagine how painful that visit must have been to BB 's parents. I cry when I visit my son and pass Blaze's apartment. I originally thought it was a romantic hookup gone wrong but now I'm thinking it was a true hate crime. I'm not even really certain SW is gay. Could have been a set up.

In my opinion it is too much of a coincidence that the first time in over 60 years Nazi propaganda was put up on Penn's campus by a group called Atomwaffen Division and then less than a year later a Penn student was killed by a member of Atomwaffen Division. No way that was by chance

The only thing I can find about Penn State campus was placed by a group called Identity Evropa can you provide a link that states Atomwaffen Division put up propaganda I would be interested in reading that.

Atomwaffen Division (AWD)

Snip

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 2017: Atomwaffen fliers were posted at the University of Pennsylvania, including one that read "How is a diploma going to help you in the race war?"

In a case like this, it's jarring to read thinly veiled defenses/excuses/support for SW and others are trying to keep perspective of who the victim is here, and who is the homophobic, xenophobic, racist Nazi. Of course, some will become defensive when their perspective/denial regarding a crime such as this is questioned. We have a lot of posters who were on the thread earlier on vociferously refuting reports that SW is a Nazi. Many of those posters are now gone from this thread because it's become uncomfortable for them. Sometimes we are forced to see things about ourselves and for some the response is introspection, and for some it's denial/defensiveness.

Honestly, I think some folks would rather believe it was a crime of passion than a hate crime, which makes it premeditated.

Who wants to believe that anyone that young is involved in such a despicable and evil group? It unnerves us to think that these groups really do exist and Blaze was a victim of one (MOO). Oh sure, we've heard of these groups existing, in papers and on the news, but to hear that an old friend did this to someone who trusted him and had no idea that when he left the house that night, that he would never return again, just shocks many people to their core.

Then people started pointing fingers at religion and Boy Scouts. Everyone wants to point a finger somewhere as to the cause of this evil and sick act- bad parenting, pressure in school, peers not accepting him, religion, Boy Scouts, mental illness- we all want to point to a cause because there just HAS to be a reason why he did this. I've seen people claim his upbringing shaped him into this evil monster, mental illness, social media embarrassment that may have festered, gay hook up that disgusted him afterwards. Yet with everything that we've all come up with, we still have the same ending- Blaze is dead, and ONLY SW knows why right now. ONLY SW.

It does appear to be a hate crime, yet I look at my own son, who is not much older than SW, and it makes me shudder to think that someone their age could have so much anger and hatred in them that they would risk life in prison to kill a person who was once a friend, at least. My son, who loves sports, playing hockey on the lake outback, having fun with friends, who's caring and compassionate- and I look at SW and I say to myself "what in God's name caused this boy to do this? Did his parents create this monster? Did his peers? Is he mentally ill and easily lead down the wrong path, trying to fit in?"

These questions keep haunting me every time I look at this thread. I haven't disappeared. I haven't defended SW, though I did say for the time being, that I don't blame the parents for this because even if they had similar beliefs to their son, neither one has ever killed anyone for not sharing their same beliefs- at least, that we know of, they haven't hurt or killed anyone.

The blame lies with SW for this murder, but why oh why this young man would throw everything away along with his precious freedom to do this, is just surreal to me, I just can't comprehend this at all.

Very well put, Steelslady. Thanks for that.

All posters views and thoughts should be respected. Because some question some of the information that is being posted, or need more actual facts to reach a conclusion does not mean they are in denial, defensive or supportive of SW. It is a shame that this thread is no longer really about BB IMO, but more about proving that their belief and point of view is the right one and others are wrong in their thoughts.

Agree. Not to mention, I am sure most, if not all of us, are just sickened and disheartened by what SW did to BB. It literally pains my stomach to read about these hate groups, and that SW was part of them.It is so hard for me to come into this thread now- because I care about BB and want justice for him, I read it. That's probably not a good idea for me, because then I feel ill afterwards reading about SW.

I have loved ones who are gay, and it scares me to death that something so evil could one day happen to them, too, by someone they thought was a friend. I just can't believe that BB knew SW was this sick, evil, and hate filled that he would have risked his own life that night to visit with him. I really think BB thought he was just going to have a fun time catching up with an old friend before he went back to college.

Thank you. I've gone through more Tums over this than any other case, and some cases have been unfortunately brutal ones. This one just hits home really hard- I just don't think that I could be as kind and gracious as the Bernstein's are, if this happened to any of my loved ones. Their strength and grace is admirable, but I dare say, if this happened to one of my loved ones- I would not be able to emulate their goodness and kindness.

Gentle reminder that Penn State and Penn are two different schools. Blaze went to Penn in Philadelphia. Penn State and the Daily Collegian (which was linked above) are in central Pennsylvania, between 3.5 and 4 hours away, depending on traffic.

Very easy to confuse them, but Penn (the University of Pennsylvania) was Blaze's school.

Thank you very much, I didn't realize that and could be why I wasn't having any success in finding anything as I was googling Penn State. I really do appreciate you letting me know.

JFTR, I never did get involved in the discussion of SW being a Nazi, Neo-Nazi, Attomwaffen Division or Anything else. I just plain didn't know.

My only comment about it was after reviewing history, why would anyone think it was a good idea. I still stand on that. I'm not running, I'm not hiding, I'm not defending him, I've just been sitting back waiting for events to unfold.

Now, I did think to start with that SW was gay and that he had a meet up with BB in the park, but in all fairness, that's the first stories that were coming out in this case, so it's natural to go there based on what we knew at the time.

We've gotten a lot more information since then so our views have changed and grown. That happens with every case. This one is no different in that regard.

Let's remember that a young, promising, talented young man was brutally murdered. He's gone and his death deserves justice. His parents will never be the same. Our world will never be the same without Blaze in it.

It does look like it's winding up to be a hate crime. We are going to have to let the legal process do its thing to prove it. Seems to me they have plenty of ammunition. SW gave it to them.

FWIW

As someone else said - UPenn and Penn State are 2 different schools - the moniker Penn references University of Pennsylvania whereas Penn State goes by Penn State

here is the link to the flyers from UPenns school paper

http://www.thedp.com/article/2017/04/nazi-propaganda-on-campus

there is a website that tracks all anti Semitic events at colleges just google swastika tracker

this is what disturbs me - in the several cases of neo Nazi flyers put up at PA schools they were all put up by Identity Europa or Aryian Underground and they hit multiple schools. U Penn was the only school hit by Atomwaffen Division and then a Penn student was killed by a member of Atomwaffen Division

Edit to add
The flyers were put up in at the end of April- and we know SW made some kind of contact with BB in June ... contact that made BB think SW was going to hit on him... my guess here is he swiped right on Blazes Tinder or Grinder when Blaze was back in CA in June. So SW could have been easily thinking and planning something in April that he then put into motion...

Has it ever been mentioned were SW went to college? I know where he went and would like to have someone try digging around to find information about his time in college.

Or he contacted Blaze when he left AWD in the summer, to try to reinforce his decision to leave. Maybe they got together, or maybe not. Then he meets the guy who radicalized him further and got him to leave school (mentioned in the propublica article or Jake Hanrahan's twitter). Now his new friendship with Blaze is unacceptable. He talks with him to exit the friendship but ends up killing him, or he decides to get rid of him and plots it all out. Problem with the second theory is the lack of a credible alibi, excess stabbing, etc. But in either case his connection to Blaze is hugely conflicting for him.

I meant to post this a few days ago, when I saw it mentioned on GMA. I can’t see the whole article since I’m not a WSJ subscriber, but you can get the gist from the title and first paragraph. Made me think of this case, although I still believe SW’s gf alibi was bs.

The New Dating No-No: Asking for a Last Name

One warm summer night, Dana Musharbash was sitting along the Chicago River with a man she had been dating for more than three months. As they talked about the future, sipping blue Tiki drinks, he popped the question:

“What’s your last name?”
