"One of the sources said the grand jury was in session for several days in mid-November, but it was unclear whether prosecutors had completed their presentation of evidence.
Prosecutors may convene an investigative grand jury to subpoena witnesses and compel other evidence, including videos. Such investigative panels may recommend charges, but cannot themselves return an indictment."

Any lawyers out there who can explain the difference between an Investigative Panel/ Investigative Grand Jury and a regular "Grand jury" that we are more familiar with?

Thank you in Advance. May justice be arriving soon for Celeste and her family.

I'm not sure if TMZ are allowed to be linked here (please delete mods if not allowed) but at the end of this video Laura conlin from LA magazine explains the difference and how an an investigative grand jury is used.

It makes me think that DAB and his inner circle have been refusing to talk to police...which screams guilt!! If you had absolutely nothing to do with it and your very young underage "friend" was found dead in your trunk then wouldn't you want to help as much as possible to exonerate yourself?

Not if you had decent legal advice.

Whether or not he killed her or was directly involved in how she ended up in his car. It would be real easy for him to talk his way into culpability or close off lines of defence. The smartest thing D4vd has done all year is STFU and hope his friends do the same.

Very interesting none of his friends have spoken out yet either...and I'm guessing they do not have same top legal representation as DAB? Or maybe they have...to the grand jury let's hope!!

Paying for his friends 'independent' legal council is a good way of putting pressure on them and keeping them on message. Especially if they also have some legal exposure to what happened to Celeste and can't afford the same calibre of lawyers themselves.

Of course it would get eye wateringly expensive pretty fast, but if D4vd has been marginally sensible he should have a few million in the bank. Investing in not spending a few decades in prison sounds worth the money. IMO

I can see what you're saying but I don't think DAB has as much money as people seem to think. A lot of new emerging artists are given some money up front by management but then they are under contract to make that back as the cost of making the album and living a certain lifestyle can run high and a new artist wont have made that kind of money yet so it's put up by management first and then owed to them. For example it was DAB manager who was renting the house (the owner had no idea DAB was even living there). JMO.

meh. I don't think it is 'war" between LAPD and LAME. TMZ is just butthurt they had a scoop from a "source" in the MEs office and LAPD came out and shot down the body was frozen thing. Sounds to me as if TMZ is at war with LAPD. I am really unimpressed with how they have comported themselves in this case. I notice TMZ is notably quiet about their prior reports that an alleged source inside the investigation told them Celeste was decapitated. So are they now admitting they were wrong about that?

MOO As usual IMO TMZ is making more about something than there is. Of course LAPD wants details of the autopsy and the case in general sealed. If they intended to put evidence before a grand jury, those proceedings are secret. Nobody even knows who the jurors are. The DA's office wouldn't want any leaks of evidence prior to those jurors hearing it first.

GJ is probably because those around D4vd have been less than cooperative and so the way to address that is to have the GJ subpoena them and force their cooperation.

He got a three million advance at 17. Since then he has completed two tours, opened for SZR, released two EPs, an album and had some extremely successful singles. I can imagine he's cleared or is close to clearing that debt. Unless he hasn't been paying it down with tour money and was depending on his album - you would hope sales have been rather heavily impacted by recent events.

Also, rather grimly, his streaming numbers jumped significantly in the months after Celeste was found. Demonstrating that name recognition is everything and there's no such thing as bad publicity. He's still got 33m monthly listeners on Spotify alone. Totting up his streaming numbers, rough maths would indicate his music has made over a million per month since.

Of course he will have label/collab/ management splits, taxes, debts, and whatever he owes for his cancelled tour etc etc, so he won't be getting all over that, but he gets a chunk.

His parents seem the sort to make him put some of it away rather than blow it. He had at least one property because he transferred it to his mother's name.

TLDR He's no Diddy, but he ain't poor and unfortunately he'll have that streaming money, which even low-end is likely $100k+, hitting his account every month, despite everything.

Yeah... I'm kinda glad that I didn't get the urge to listen to his crap once this came out. I'd rather not contribute to his defense. (Not that I would disagree that everyone's entitled to the best defense they can afford.) He hired a real good one... Blair Berk. She's one I would want on my side whether I was innocent or guilty, for a trial or a plea deal. But she's especially good at handling the media in cases where there's intense coverage.

I agree that not saying anything isn't necessarily a sign that you're guilty (which is why we need the 5th Amendment). Even if by some chance he's innocent, even though the evidence against him is really bad, any good lawyer would tell him to keep his mouth shut... It's the cops' job to find evidence, he doesn't need to give it to them. Similarly, LE will also tell you that refusing or failing a polygraph is evidence of guilt... BS.
