Currently no flights in or out. The Lufthansa SF Symphony Orchestra flight was diverted to and has landed in Oakland.

HOW MANY PILOTS HAVE EXPERIENCE WITH 777S?

How many are flying now?

Why give a press briefing when all you can tell us is how to spell your last name?(dumb SFO spokesman - what are you thinking?)

Curious since this is a foreign based carrier if the pilot was unfamiliar with the airport and where he should be landing. Or it could be something mechanical with the aircraft. With the huge volume of take-offs and landings at SFO this definitely is not the norm.

yes I know it's a crazy fear since hundreds of thousands of people fly everyday and are safe. Safer than driving in a car. But yet I still hate it.

Does anyone know if this was a normal landing or an emergency landing? I have heard differing stories

There is news conference ending now with Doug Yakel, SFO Spokesman who seems to know nothing about anything. But, there will be another update at 3 PM PDT.

Sheryl Sandburg of Facebook was scheduled to be on this flight but changed last moment to another.

Every time I land at SFO I'm afraid that's what's going to happen. Miraculous that so many people escaped!

I have the same fear whenever I land at Logan. A couple of those runways jut right over/into the water, and watching the approach out the window always looks like the nose is headed straight for the wall.

This crash sounds like it could potentially have been much worse than it is. Peace to those lost, injured, and those who are likely shocked and distraught after going through something so frightening. :rose:

I am just seeing the news of this crash.
Scary. I have 5 clients who have been out of the country and are due back in Atlanta late tonight or early tomorrow. These are 5 separate clients/households whose pets I care for while they are away. They scheduled me weeks ago for this holiday week. I don't ask where they are going...just how to reach them if I need to. 4 of them are out of the country.
Worries me but there are probably thousands of planes flying people to the US today.
Still....I will worry a bit until they are all back home.

Wouldn't it be better to land in the shallow water than to land on someone's house, for example?

Teams are leaving for San Franciso for the investigation. Will be looking at black boxes, etc.

Too early to speculate.

And ignored the questions is this due to pilot error.

We are watching the live air feed on foxnews.com and you can see in the rocks by the bay where I assume the plane scrapped across them right before the runway. Scary!!!

SFO has always been one of my least favorite airports to land at. You are going down, and down, and down over the bay and just when you are convinced that you are going to land in the water- BAM you are on the runway. Not for the faint of heart!

Prayers for all of the people involved!

I was just explaining to my beloved this exact description of what it is like to land in SFO.
