Investigation continues into the accidental shooting of a two year old; Grandfather arrested for ... from SBSD - Headquarters : Nixle
On Friday, July 20, 2018 at 9:16 a.m. deputies and medical aid responded to the Duffy St. home for a report of a shooting. Deputies arrived and found the two-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital and pronounced deceased at 10:02 a.m.
Sheriff’s Specialized Investigators responded to conduct the investigation. Investigators determined a four-year-old boy, the victim’s cousin, was in possession of a handgun and accidently shot the two-year-old.
Investigators have interviewed several people that were at the home at the time of the shooting, and as a result they determined that Cesar Lopez, the victims grandfather, left the gun in an area that was accessible to the children. Lopez was arrested and will be booked for Child Endangerment and Felon in Possession of a Firearm.
The investigation is ongoing and no additional information is available for release at this time.
