I really hope that Bryce is alive and well and is hiding out somewhere. However, IF he is not, I really hope that his remains will be found quickly, he'll come home, and his family will have some closure. I can't stand another case of a handsome/beautiful young person who is missing for years and years and years.

I don't want him to be gone, but if he is I want him to be found quickly.

I also think the key is the water.

A short time ago, on the live radio broadcast posted just up-thread ...

BL's Mom said that BL's SUV's airbag did NOT deploy.

Air bags are not set to go off every time there is an accident. He would have to had sustained a major impact to the front or rear of the vehicle for the airbags to deploy. If he rolled on his side as stated in MSM and he only went down 15 ft then I'm not surprised that the air bags did not get triggered.

All of that time passing between locations, as well as his going back and forth to the crash site beforehand, could be indicative of someone who was contemplating suicide and building up the nerve. As he got closer and closer to home, perhaps his fears (whatever they were) overwhelmed him to the point wher he ultimately decided to carry it out. When he purposely wrecked and didn't die, perhaps he then kicked out the back door to begin the path toward completion, culminating in a death via self-immolation.

Or, he had the wreck, was injured, and walked until he passed. Then, a freak event happened where his body ignited during decomp.

I just don't see anything up to this point that alludes to evil being perpetrated on him.

ETA: Just saw the unconfirmed update about the Sheriff saying they are unrelated. Hope it's true, as it changes everything.

It sure as heck does. It means there's a chance!!!

It's possible that BL has a friend unknown to his family who could have picked him up, or he may have been able to hitch a ride. I hope he's okay and just hiding out somewhere.

Well, he spent 12 hours at least by his car. Not with anyone. Because he was still alone and with his vehicle when the police did their welfare check or whatever, on him. And if he met someone that should be seriously easy to determine. Buttonwillow is a tiny, tiny community. Everyone knows everything in those places. And his cell phone records should show who he called or texted.

That's for certain. My own son had some minor rebellion issues as a teen (home after curfew etc) nothing awful or horrible. Then he disappeared for 4mos right after he turned 20. We found him in a catatonic state. I thought he was doing drugs and that caused his conditions. Doctors ran tests and no drugs in his system, also did hair follicle test. No prior drug use at all. He simply stopped sleeping, got anxious, hallucinations began, and he just spiraled. It's been 5 yrs now and he has never been the same since. He's been diagnosed with schizophrenic effective. I've been told that each time he goes off his meds and hallucinations start it gets worse and worse.

My prayers for this family and Bryce. I hope it is NOT mental illness, and that he is found safe soon!

Hey, I'm very sorry to hear you have been suffering with all of that with your son. But I'm thankful you shared with us. I think mental illness is vastly misunderstood. I try to learn as much as possible, though and firsthand info like yours is helpful.

Wonder if this lends credence to the staged crash theory... besides the bags being faulty, if the car was off with no one inside and pushed down the ravine instead of driven? Doesn't explain the blood found inside though.

I hate the waiting for details to surface. I wonder why they think the body isn't his.

The male body has not been identified. Authorities said it was clothed and found with evidence around it, though they would not give further details. http://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/Burned-Body-Remains-Found-Castaic-Lake-222339421.html
.If the body was found clothed, that means it wasn't totally burnt. If clothes were still attached skin underneath was likely still attached and they could tell race, maybe age, height, weight, etc.

O/t: I can not even fathom watching my child go through that. You must be one heck of a strong woman.

Back onto Bryce. I want to say I'm so happy it wasn't him that was found, but of course that mean's another family has lost a loved one. Even if it's not him that's one heck of a coincidence for these two people to of passed under odd circumstances in the same small little area.

A lot of you have commented on mom being overly involved in his life. From everything I've seen she became that way somewhat recently... I could be wrong here though, and if so please correct me. If that is the case maybe it was just motherly instinct making her do that. A lot of times you know something just isn't right with your child even when the rest of the world thinks your being crazy and overly paranoid. Now yes she can say he was acting normal here and there, but that doesn't mean that subconsciously her momdar wasn't going off.

I sure hope that report is correct and that the body is not Bryce, but I really think its related to his disappearance somehow. Too coincidental in such a small area and short time frame.

My prayers for Bryce, his family and unknown victims family now too :(

I want to give some perspective on Buttonwillow and Castaic. Buttonwillow is a truck stop type town. It's for people traveling the 5. It has only about 1,500 people. It looks like this:

It takes about an hour and a half to get from Button Willow to Castaic, through winding hills:

Castaic is pretty remote:

The nearby town of Castaic is much larger. However, he was found 3 miles north of Lake Hughes Road and that is really in the middle of nowhere. Check it out on google maps (Lake Castaic, lake Hughes Road). It would be easy to hide there and easy to get lost and easy to be dumped and never found.

Also, there is a jail holding about 3,500 people in Castaic.

I hope they continue to use search dogs.

RE: the body of a man found burning near Castaic Lake, BBM
... The victim was found face down and appeared to have been wearing shoes, Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. [DD] said. ...
Shoes: if intact, the shoes must be telling as to whether or not this is BL:

  • size - are they BL's size?
  • type - g/f and parents must know if these are his shoes, if recognizable.

  • #268
When inmates are released in that area, does anyone know where they are transported to?

  • #269
Thanks gitana! It looks really beautiful there. Random o/t but I always enjoy your posts. I remember them from one of the cases that brought me here. Iirc, Sierra Lamar.

that and it's possible the hair was not completely burned off and a different shade and length than red.

Height could play a factor

weight

Also because this body was that of a males, the genitals would have answers too (circumcised or if it's not)

Taking a step away for a moment. I live in south OC and just want to add a couple of things that may NOT be relevant to Bryce, but may, perhaps, give a sense of some issues teens MIGHT have living here.

This is an overwhelmingly middle class and higher area. It's jokingly said that south of Anaheim and Santa Ana is the Orange Curtain, i.e where the ideal, money-based lifestyle is. Of course that is a massive generalization, but has some elements of truth.

It is also *AGAIN, GENERALIZING* a socially conservative, religious demographic.

Pastor Rick Warren's son recently committed suicide. It came as a tremendous shock to many in my local community, and to his credit RW did say mental illness was hushed up and should be discussed more, but *RUMOR* suggested there was another factor in play.

With that said, the high school drug of choice here is meth or heroin. I, personally, know of a graduating class in the last 5 years that has lost - to overdose - 7 young men. (At different times, and I'm not naming the school, but it is in an affluent area.) My neighbor's son has destroyed his brain with meth. He is now living next door, on parole, and collecting cans to recycle for a living. He is also bi polar, brought on by drug use.

There is a real, and very dangerous, drug problem in south OC.

Now, having said all that. IMO IMO IMO and as a total generalization: if a young man from around here had found himself in over his head with narcotics, he would be so very, very torn as to how to tell his parents. Expectations here are high. Academically and career-wise.

Or, IMO IMO a young man was questioning his sexuality, he would also be torn. Especially if his family basis was one of the rather conservative churches that dominate around here. SOC was/is - judging by the posters on many of my neighbors lawns - Prop 8 friendly on the whole.

Please take this as an overview by a fairly liberal outsider who has lived here for 10 years and is not religious, and not made of $, but lives here non-the-less.

I'm trying so hard not to violate TOS, but I hope I have posted a couple of elements to consider in any OC case.

I hope so too, but it IS someone, so who is it? And it's the second victim in the general area of Castaic in a week, that I've read about, whoever it is. Coincidence, or is something very strange going on?

ETA: this is the other one I'm thinking of Found Deceased CA - Martha "Marti" Myers, 59, Castaic, 5 Aug 2013 - Websleuths Crime Sleuthing Community. Marti Meyers, age 59, found earlier this week. And I'd forgotten part of her thread included this link to a someone found in Gorman: http://scvnews.com/2013/08/28/body-found-in-gorman-detectives-investigating/, which as I understand it isn't very far away, 25-30 miles or so. Later identified as a male, but no ID last I could find.

Strange.

Early in the thread someone mentioned he may have been questioning his sexuality, hence the reason for wanting to break up with his gf and having a lot to talk to his Mom about.

**IF** the theory is true, he may have made plans to meet up with someone in Buttonwillow. He was there an awfully long time to "hang out" without plans to do so.

The driving around the lake is really odd too. I'm not sure what to think... Looking for someone? Looking for a spot to pull over? So many possibilities.

I hope his parents get answers soon.

This could keep me up all night but I'm on the east coast. Ugh. Either some sick creep took advantage of a situation or this may be related. It's hard not knowing the demographics. I'm sitting on my fingers but as you know we over think and can go real dark with good intentions. Wonder if somehow this is truly a crime scene however not our boy. I guess we can speculate further at a later date. I just feel that based on all the random circumstances leading up to him gone that I am cheer leading all the way that this wasn't his ultimate ending. Sad that it was someone's though too. Can't wait to catch up later. Btw - it's so sad to me about all these young adults committing suicide. (Hoping this isn't the case here). Clearly I could go on and on... Sorry!

Yes, exactly. Driving out Lake Hughes Rd to the lake is remote, however that part of town off the I-5 is not at all remote. Definitely what BL described to his mom as "suburban". It used to be a short remote stretch from Castaic to Santa Clarita Valley, but not anymore. It's pretty much all built up from Castaic to SCV. (For those not local)

They said he had red/white Nike's on. One of the pics on the FB page has him wearing them. VERY easily identifiable.

They get promotions in the Capitol...

Not discounting anything you are saying, he and his family are not originally from OC; they are from a suburb of IL which is also somewhat affluent and conservative.

That said even a kid with a liberal upbringing may be torn as to how to tell their parents about drug abuse or sexuality, they are not easy topics to discuss.

I checked your link and you're right it's been updated, but it now says remains are not likely his? This is bizarre.

I've been checking that one all day and they have updated 4-5 times with minor changes. This last change being more major. I have also seen quotes floating around where the police are being much more definitive in saying it's not him, but I don't have a link.
