Ideas along this line have come up. But it's doubtful he was really with friends. He doesn't know anyone in Buttonwillow & wasn't with anyone when contacted by roadside assistance or the Sheriff. It's more likely he was sleeping / going through withdrawals & trying to buy time to get in a better state of mind before going home when he said he was going to hang out with "friends". But I don't think this is related to the accident. He called him mom when he pulled off the freeway in Castaic to say he was going to sleep. He was seen on the security camera at that same time.

My apologies I should have clarified friends with "friends". This meaning that he was with or meeting people he may have gotten drugs from that he may not have known but for the sake of getting the substance they were called" friends".

I've heard dealers and the client both be referred in this way in my own experience in the past and usually it's done to stop further questions.

Hope that makes sense.

When did the person get killed, dumped, and burned in relation to when Bryce went missing? Could he have accidently seen something and the two killers reacted?

  • #623
My kid has one, so do many kids. It's a tiny wire cemented to the bottom teeth when the braces are removed, to keep them from moving. I had mine for 20 years until it fell out.

The permanent retainer thing is weird. I've never heard of one.

The authorities could probably find out quickly if that poster is Bryce.

I know I will be corrected if I am wrong, but I believe it was several days from car rolling > burning body.

I had mine put in when I was 14 (when my braces came off) and had it removed at 26 when it started falling off. Otherwise I'm sure it would still be there.

I'm in Ventura county. Is there a PDF of his missing poster? Id like to print and post them around here.

Can't find a source on how many people wear permanent versus removable retainers, they all just say that permanent are a lot less common, no statistics.

I personally don't know a single person who wears one. In all my years, I've only met people with removable ones, so i'm praying right now this could be him, since at least to me it doesn't seem all that common.

Just the retainer alone wouldn't be anything sufficient but the fact that he writes about being his brother, gives someone advice about IL (hes original from there), and talks about some current depression and going through a hard time (we know about his trying ADD meds) together paints a possible picture.

Well the fact that he said he stayed up al night on ADD meds makes the speculation regarding possible drug issues logical, IMO, but what makes me think he wasn't trolling for drugs or into something nefarious and dangerous regarding drugs is:

1. His background. There is really only evidence that he ever did/tried any drug, once. There's no evidence of a chronic/ serious drug issue. He does not have the sunken appearance of a heavy drug user. And while white, suburban middle class kids from supportive families definitely get into drugs, they rarely have occasion to get involved in the dangerous underworld that sometimes surrounds drugs.

2. The best place to find ADD medications is high school/college. Which he left.

3. One of the worst places for a stranger to find drugs to buy may be an isolated
camping area populated by families. If desperate for drugs he'd stick to bigger towns off the 5, truck stops or go into LA. He had to veer off into countryside when he went to Castsic lake which is not likely what someone needing drugs would do.

Agreed, I don't think he was a heavy user maybe it was recreational, and he planned on taking some for the long drive. When he reached the truck stop around the castaic area he was out. when he bought his drink he asked the cashier about scoring. Which sent him somewhere else to a " dealer" who he to avoid any questions about this person called a friend. Maybe they told him they'd meet him near where the vehicle was found. Maybe that's when something went wrong.

I'm just trying to exhaust this theory in my brain. I do agree i dont think he wasn't a heavy user. :seeya:

Not saying anything about Bryce, but really, there is no "type" for drug users among college-age people anymore. It is very widespread.

I don't think this is Bryce. I'm pretty sure his retainer is lower, but just a huge coincidence that someone who seems to know him does too. This person has posts from 13 days ago when Bryce would have been driving & 11 days ago after the accident, so I don't see him getting a computer & having casual posts the day of the accident.

BBM - pretty much what I was going to add as well as way further down, this person seems to be a female. :) Thanks, BluePoppy

Do you think they would? I thought maybe if they do think it is him they wouldn't? Because if it is in fact him he's intentionally missing and he is over 18? Definitely need an attorney's opinion on that.

Maybe they can at least verify or discount it's him but not disclose his location?

They can likely determine if it's him. There's a way to trace posts to a specific person's email or computer. I mean every twitter account, Disqus, instagram, etc. is anchored by an email account.

But they probably can't locate him via the reddit posts although they could get a message out.

If he communicated wih LE and stated he did not want to be found and wanted to be left alone, they would have to honor that if he could prove it was him. That guy who dated Olivia Newton John disappeared and then viaclawyers asked to be left alone.

But I think you've done some interesting sleuthing. Maybe the authorities should be notified?

If him though, why would he be posting about his own disappearance? Disassociative fugue or something?

It's possible.

True but there remains a type that gets involved in the shadowy drug underworld. And I have a hard time understanding why leave college for drugs, if that's the speculation, when it's easy to score there.

From today's online news sources, the burned victim was killed at 2pm in LA on Sept 3rd & appears to have been dumped/burned the morning of the 5th. So I don't think it's possible to be related at all

Random thoughts. (I do this a lot)

I'm going back and thinking. He bought a soda for $1.71. Take off .09 tax and you have $1.62. This tells me it was most likely a fountain drink (44 oz) rather than a can or bottle. So I wonder if the drink container was found. If not, he may have stopped somewhere to throw it away. I'm thinking of any video that might be tracked down.

I'm thinking that the duffel bag (as in the bag that was opened in the back) might have been one that had the tool he used to break the back window. Was this a tool bag he kept in the back of the car for emergencies? (We have one in all of our cars with an emergency tool-breaks glass and cuts seat belts, screwdriver/wrench set, emergency lights, duck tape, baling wire and a pair of panty hose-great replacement for broken alternator belts-don't ask me how I know this. In the front there is a pocket knife and flashlight). If it was an emergency bag, was anything missing from the bag? (The parents should find out)

If he drove to the crash area two times, it might be because the signage says that you must have a valid permit or be towed (at least it used to). He may have thought he couldn't park there (although I have a time or three, but not recently). It starts getting desolate past that road, so that would be the normal place to turn yourself around. He might have gone back to another area to sleep, but got rousted by someone to move his vehicle and went back towards the lake, Bryce could have stopped at the cell phone tower to sleep (there is ample room to park to the side of the fence), but because it was so hot, left the car running and/or didn't get it in "park" or set the emergency brake, he fell asleep and the car rolled down the hill. He woke up in time to grab the steering wheel and flip it over. I'm just seeing how it could actually get there by accident.

Did he have a phone charger? Or was his phone dead? That would be a reason to leave it behind. A lot of people don't drive with a wallet if they normally keep it in their back pocket, either. Leaving the laptop makes sense, as it had no useful purpose.

I have helped people who flipped their vehicle and had to kick out the back window. (3 kids and 2 adults) They hit a slick patch, went up about two feet on the side of a hill and because they turned the steering wheel too fast, flipped completely over. They were on autopilot, the kids just standing in the middle of the road when my friend and I arrived. The adults didn't even notice the kids were standing in the middle of the road. We put the kids in our car and wrapped them in blankets, and they just sat there staring until someone familiar (a parent in another car) finally came and got them. The two adults just kept pacing around, even though one had a broken arm. He wouldn't let me splint it, he wouldn't let me bandage his cuts, he wouldn't accept a blanket, he kept throwing it off. If Bryce crashed, broke the back window and got himself out, he would be disoriented, probably hurt. He might have paced for a while. If he could have seen lights, that would most likely be the direction he would go. Otherwise, he would head back the direction he came, if he knew where that was. Has anyone checked Castaic Lagoon? That is where the campgrounds are and he would have passed that on the way in. It was Labour day weekend. Even at 2:00am, there should have been cars around. If there was someone following him, they could have picked him up (that would not probably be good).

I really think if Bryce was wandering around with amnesia looking for a ride with blood on him any normal person to give him a lift or Bryce himself would ask to go to the police or hospital first thing. No wallet or I'd In my pocket I would get a ride to PD to get answers not go cross country with a stranger. I believe he is either in hiding with help of someone maybe a new girlfriend? who knows because of the odd tm's to his roommate and the bizarre behavior he exhibited before he left that day amongst his friends. I think he did or was planning on breaking up with his girlfriend as well. Were the keys to the truck left in the vehicle with wallet and cell? Maybe he floored it and jumped out before it crashed to fake something as to not go home and face his parents. I think they had him on some kind of allowance. No disrespect but are they controlling? overprotective? He is an adult over 18. Maybe he wanted independence and was breaking away from them and did not really want to go home in the first place. Why did he go to a Jr college so far away from home? Most people I know that go to a Jr College stay local. Maybe he was not driving at Castaic and never left Buttonwillow. I believe he is either in hiding dealing with his issues or he was involved in foul play and is deceased somewhere. A good friend of mine is a retired cop and we are on he same page with this.

I was wondering if anyone figured out what prompted him to leave so late for a 10 hour drive home. His Mom said he wanted to talk to her about something yet it doesn't sound like he did that on the phone with her. Why was he breaking up with the GF? Was he distraught? What kind of shape was he in that his friends took his keys away? Why would his Mom tell them to give them back to him when she was so far away. Was he having a dissociative episode even before he left Chico? Kids don't leave their cell phones behind. Most of us have chargers in our car. Was it charged when it was recovered? Can't imagine him not taking it with him if it was charged. His roommate said he always wore a backpack. Was that found at the crash site?
Guess I needed to empty my mind of the swirling puzzle pieces. Thanks for the opportunity to do that here.

Mom offered to go up there but Bryce said no most likely because he was having his Aderrall problem. My 23 year old son would be embarrassed if I his Mom went around his college frat friends. If I just showed up he would be upset at me. They might have demanded he come to Laguna when he really didn't want to. Mom told friends to give him the keys. The parents had reported Bryce missing twice that day which is strange. Parents were in charge of his finances which means they are in control. Who knows what was really said on those phone conversations. It is private.
