RSBM / BBM... but I have to ask!!!
O/T Pantyhose for alternator belt. (Doubt it would work with the one-belt-does-all serpentine belts, BTW)

While on a trip up CA101, one of the bolts holding my alternator on (an old '75 one ton truck with a tool bed) sheared off, so the alternator flopped down and wouldn't charge the battery. The threaded part of the bolt was stuck in the block. The belt got broken. It was about 1:30 at night. I searched through the bins in the truck, trying to figure out how to get back on the road. Buried in the back of the truck was a pair of pantyhose (I still have no idea how they got there....) and, of course, tie wire (for tying up wooden frames for concrete work-no, I don't do concrete work, but the wire is very malleable). I put the remainder of the bolt through the alternator bolt holes, used the wire to tie it in place and attached it to the engine mounts, then took the pantyhose (both legs), wrapped them around the pulleys for the alternator and fan, pulled with everything I had, and knotted the pantyhose (cutting off the extra). The advantage was that the knot was small enough to fit in the pulleys and not jump track. I made it from Lompoc, CA to San Luis Obispo, CA (about 60 miles) and to the place I needed to be the next morning with that set up. (I fixed it the right way at lunch.) Anyone else's mileage on this fix may vary, but that's why I keep a pair in my emergency bag.

There are really not many options that could have Bryce alive, IMO. Either he is with someone (or a series of people) who is feeding and sheltering him, or he is wandering aimlessly, somehow getting food and water and not being spotted by LE or any other officials, or he is (unlikeliest IMO) in some sort of medical facility. I believe LE can obtain info regarding missing persons, enough to verify they are alive, if the person is in hospital or jail. Also on any anonymous persons who have turned up with amnesia or whatever.

I am not very sold on the amnesia theory, partly because it seems unlikely, IMO, that a person who has no idea who he is or how he got there has not managed to ask for help over a two week period.

Anything is possible but unless he left on his own, I am really having a hard time holding on to the idea that he is alive, JMO.

One more time, NOTHING from Reddit is allowed. No brother, no retainer. Verified Insider has already addressed the brother; there is no brother. If you would like to ask him about a retainer, you may. Even if VI confirms Bryce has a permanent retainer, nothing from Reddit can be brought in.

Do not discuss anything from unapproved sites like Reddit and do not bring Facebook discussion here. Please and thank you.

Interstate 5 is the main north/south route and it is always busy. Huge truck volume.

Thank you!!! I came online wanting to ask about truckers going up and down the I-5 and this answers my question.

It has been on my mind for several days now that Bryce could have been picked up by a trucker. And here's why I have been thinking this COULD be a possibility: (but of course, this is just IMO and is just me trying to think of plausible ways he could still be alive, because I feel he is!)

- At that time of morning, there are a lot of truckers out on the roads. I used to live right by a freeway on the East Coast that had very heavy truck traffic. In the wee hours of the morning, truckers were almost the only ones out on the interstate.

- Truckers have been known to pick up hitchhikers. It is dangerous but many truckers feel they can take care of themselves. If they saw a young man walking alone in the early am without any bags or anything on his person, I doubt they would consider him threatening. I wouldn't put it past one to stop and offer a ride.

- If the trucker was heading away from CA he may have NO idea about Bryce's case. I dated a trucker for awhile and he had a satellite radio in his truck. He only listened to about 2 channels ALL the time and neither really featured any local news. It is possible this trucker simply has not heard about Bryce missing.

- If Bryce has head trauma he may have been willing to just go wherever the trucker was heading. So he could possibly be wandering around in a different state by now. A state that may not be fully aware of his case and may not know to look for him.

- Or of course, there is the sight chance Bryce decided he wanted to disappear, accepted a ride from a trucker and got out of dodge. A little unlikely, but some people have done that very thing so it is a slight possibility.

Once again, this is just my opinion and some ideas I had. I was trying to figure out the fastest way Bryce could have left the area without being seen, and riding with a truck driver seemed a logical explanation. They cover A LOT of ground and they usually live in a totally different area of the country where they wouldn't know local news.

Perhaps there would be a way to check with truck companies and see if they had anyone on that route that Friday am. (They keep detailed logs of routes and hours).

Are there weigh stations after that area that were open? Because if a trucker stopped to be weighed, there could be camera footage of Bryce inside a truck cab.

Just a theory because I really believe he is still alive!

Where's his black Jansport backpack that he carried everyday?? At least every time I saw him he had that thing on his back! Even to go get food off campus he had it.

This really captured my interest. I have two brothers around Bryce's age and they also carry backpacks ALL THE TIME. They would never leave it behind if they could help it.

So it may not be beneficial, but I have to wonder if this backpack has been seen? Was it left behind at his apartment? It's not mentioned as being found at the crash scene. If it isn't at his apartment nor in the car, it stands to reason he may have carried it out with him.

I don't know if that is important or not, but it might be. It could either mean
a) He left the car intentionally and had what he needed in the backpack or b) someone else was there and took it? Or???? Any other ideas?

Another reason it could be relevant is that if he has it on him, it could be added to the missing posters as something that may be seen with him/on him.

I used to hitch hike and was picked up by truckers a lot. I once was picked up by a trucker of a large truck transportation company in Serling, CO. We met with another trucker of the same line going different direction and I changed trucks. I almost made my destination in about the same amount of time it would take to drive it. BL could have made it just about anywhere in this same manner.

I read that search was scheduled to start at 8am today ... it's now almost 4pm CA time ...

Any news from searchers?

Was it Amber's group that committed to starting today?

  • Finally, investigators have announced that the body found burning on Lake Hughes Road last Wednesday by a cyclist is not the body of Bryce Laspisa, the missing OC 19 year old who disappeared under mysterious circumstances over Labor Day weekend. In one breath you thank God, and in the other you wonder who did this and what are the odds it could happen so close to where Laspisa went missing? Well, investigators have identified the victim as 35 year old [LM], a resident of South LA. They say Miles was shot to death by three acquaintances perhaps in a dispute over money. The three suspects, two males, one female, are also from South LA and have been charged with murder. It appears they just dropped off the corpse in Castaic and set it in fire. LA TIMES
  • The Signal adds in that investigators were fairly certain early-on after discovering the burned corpse that the victim was not Laspisa, but they had to wait pending confirmation by the Coroner. How'd they know? Wait for it....Laspisa is a white male, the murder victim was a black male. And yet Laspisa's family was dragged through several days of terror pending the Coroner's confirmation! Also, more detail on the sightings of Laspisa Tuesday near the Habit in Valencia, another sighting in Stevenson Ranch, and one on a Metrolink train. Either Laspisa is getting around or pale gingers are more common in the SCV than I thought. SIGNAL
  • The 8,000+ followers of the Find Bryce Laspisa Facebook group are energized by the news and they're still looking for volunteers to post flyers in the SCV. FACEBOOK

Since I'm new here and am not 100% familiar with all of the rules, I hope that I am not breaking any by bringing this up again. Someone already posted a link to a video on YouTube that Bryce made for a school project, but I wanted to see if anyone else had viewed it. I thought it was very interesting that it was called "Family Secrets" and was about a mother (played by Byce's mom) and father (played by Bryce's dad) of 2 boys. In the video, one of the sons has multiple dream about this girl. The boys end up seeing a psychologist and find out that the mom isn't their real mother and that they also had a sister (father's daughter). Anyway, the boys find out that the dad had done something to the mom and to his daughter or something to that effect. But, it turns out that the daughter is in the basement and the boys go down there and find her. She warns them about the dad, and then the dad comes down there with a knife...

I'm not saying this is related to or a coincidence to anything else that has been said on this thread, but it does seem that Bryce has some kind of imagination. :)

Been wondering myself. Seems like a quiet day, especially after so much abuzz yesterday. Hoping no news for now is good news...

Exactly! That's what I'm thinking. It would be very easy to get pretty far, pretty fast. And if he is somewhere else (Midwest, east coast, etc.) more than likely people would not recognize him as a missing person.

Wow! I had not heard about nor seen this video. That is quite an imagination. (unless it's based on a short story/book?)

Yes I saw it and it was a school project. I'm curious who played the sister it was not in the credits.

ABC had Bryce's uncle on. They are still searching and posting flyers in the Valencia area and if you would like to volunteer to search, you can sign up through the ABC News webpage. Sounds like this is getting the coverage it deserves now! Praying for a safe return!

Wow! That's really good work for a Senior Film project! I really jumped when the sister first appeared & a couple times after that. As well as got chills. (I don't do good with scary movies... Ha ha!) But I had to laugh at the end when the sister warned the boys in the basement. :D "Dad" was the best actor of the bunch! :)

ETA: No way is it in any way a reflection of anything IRL, or mom & dad wouldn't have helped make it.

local channel to what city?? or national??

Local to the Southern California area that Bryce is missing from. ABC News channel 7 covers a huge area in this Southern California area. Sorry to not make that clear. I basically recapped what they said in my previous post.

I jumped too, lol. He did a very good job. It definitely freaked me out.
