If he is in a hospital, psych ward or rehab center the institution would have to report that to LE and they would delete the missing persons report. He would have been reported as 'found'. Unless Bryce used a false name, or doesn't know his name. But if LE knows that he is in facility, he'd be reported as found.

He doesn't have his wallet with him he could be out of the state with an alias. He's not on the nationwide missing person list IIRC. In Cali new law you can be an illegal and get a DL so anything is possible. Maybe he's in Vegas.

LE knows what's going on. They have been investigating this close to 3 weeks. They know more than anyone on this thread. We are just guessing. They must have some good concrete info to conclude he is not in the Castaic Lake area which is a good sign he is alive and just wanting to be alone for whatever reason. He is an ADULT.

I just thought of something. A friend of my sons years ago went missing his Toyota Tacoma was found with the windows all broken out and left on a hill in Orange. A week went by with everyone looking for him, he just dropped off the face of the earth. Found out he had been seeing a recruiter and had enlisted in the Air Force without telling anyone and the recruiter had picked him up and got him on a plane to Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. They offered him a large sign up bonus I think it was $8,000 so he just dropped out of college because he needed the money and wanted the military job training. Never told his friends or family till he was already there. Weird because he had left his Wallet with ID too but come to find out he had a duplicate on his person and the recruiter had given him cash since he had none.

Hmmmmm I wonder if they have checked LAX, SFO, LB, OAKLAND and other Airports

If we can assume Bryce is has left the lake area, where might he be heading? Girlfriends house, parents house, apartment, school, old home/friends in Chicago? What else do we know about Bryce? Any family or friends he would reach out to? Obviously he has not shown up at these places, but he may have been headed that way. Can we assume the only way he could travel was on foot. Hitch a ride? What are some other theories?

JMO!

*IF* Sgt Pena's comments were crystal clear, there wouldn't be the number of different translations/interpretations that are showing up on this thread alone. JMO

So ... either Sgt Pena's statements in question were designed to be intentionally vague/confusing/hiding something or he possesses poor communication skills or my translator is broken (which could very well be!). JMO

ETA: Or, the article's author could be at fault for snipping Sgt Pena's statements.?.?

Lol! I don't know! Maybe I'm crazy! But I do note the the people who are certain about what he said and think its clear have the same interpretation, I think. I didn't find him I be vague or cryptIc at all. He was pretty definite. He said they were looking for someone who wanted to be found, not someone hiding from searchers.

You have some good theories. My worry is that, although Bryce is an adult, he may not be in his right mind which means his actions, even if determined and purposeful, may not be so voluntary. And if that's the case, we need to keep searching.

So if they were looking for someone who wants to be found and they aren't looking for Bryce anymore then one would surmise that what he is stating is that Bryce doesn't want to be found? Is this your understanding of what he said? And if his investigation leads him to believe Bryce isn't in the Castaic area why would he include the portion about the person they are looking for returning to the already searched area? If they had reason to believe that Bryce was suffering from a mental illness, even if he didn't "want" to be found would they still look? I guess his statement leaves me with more questions than answers.

Ok, lets clear some things up here !

LE stated that their findings were that Bryce left the Castaic park area BECAUSE the bloodhounds followed his scent leading out of the park. Not too difficult to understand that.

Bryce has NOT been found in any rehab or institution or anywhere else "hiding out" or NOT wanting to be found. If LE knew where he was, we would know he was safe
I need the verified attorney following this case on here to chime in, we were told that because Bryce is still listed as Critical Missing Person, if he were to be found, his parents would be notified - EVEN IF HE DIDNT WANT TO BE FOUND.

As stated by Caron, it was Vyvanse not Adderall, I thought Vyvanse was generic for Adderall, it is the same type of medication

I don't know why it is taking so long for forensics to process the laptop or cell phone, I am not a techno geek but think that it should take no more than a couple of days to process these.

Summary:
LE states that the case / search is active. Their search of Castaic lake is pretty much complete but are leaving that door open in case something in the laptop / phone would lead them to believe that divers need to go back to the water or dogs/searchers need to canvass the grounds.
The family is still hopeful that he is alive, whether injured, confused, embarrassed or as some of you speculate "hiding out". Whatever the case may be, we want to find him and will do whatever it takes to do so.

Although it is now day 19, and I am understanding that if he were to be walking around "confused" that someone would have seen him, I still think that he might have been taken in by someone who gave him food/shelter and then he left on his own or maybe (because he know no better) is still there. I CANNOT believe that there are still so many people in the Castaic area that still never heard of Bryce with all the activity there, so I can imagine that it is less known in other areas.

Friday is a big truck turnaround in that area and it will be hit hard by volunteers on Friday to see if maybe someone picked him up shortly after the crash

Was it ever confirmed that he in fact used the tool to break out the back window?

How do you know this?
That poster said when they first posted that they're a parent of child in Bryce's dorm.

Also the vehicle came down on the nose, not on the rear as stated by someone else, it rolled, but landed on nose, then rested on passenger side

Not that it makes any difference.

Thank you so much dragracerz for updating us.

Still praying for a soon return of Bryce to his family.

Snipped by me. There's been many cases where an area was searched over and over again for a person missing, and then months later they are found right where it was searched. So I think for some of us, we wonder how LE can be so sure that Bryce didn't go back into the park at some point other than where the dogs tracked his exit. Also, I know I for one hate to see them say 100% definitely not in the park (or any other particular place) as it discourages people from still searching in that area.

The other thing is Sgt. Pena's blurb posted over the last couple of pages - it seems like he's insinuating that Bryce has been hiding, possibly even hiding in the park. Now we probably overanalyze what LE says, but it's got some of us wondering if LE knows more than they're saying.

ETA: sorry, I didn't articulate the above very well...trying to post very quickly before my boss stops back around <red face emoticon>

Not that it makes any difference.

My Daughter and I drove through Castaic last Sunday and got off the exit and drove to the accident site.
I wonder what made Bryce turn into the somewhat narrow opening in the guard rails where the cell tower was... different thoughts crossed my mind, did he think it was a restroom, looking for a place to go, a road...etc. It looked as though he got stuck in the soft dirt behind the cell tower and once his vehicle was free he drove down and then over the cliff. It is slated and ten a sharp drop off. Puzzling for sure.
Praying for Bryce and your Family.

My heart literally breaks for his family. Í lost my brother in Iraq so I know the pain of losing someone and watch daily as my parent's hearts break over the loss. Even living through that and having daily reminders of what we've lost I can't imagine the pain they must have not knowing where he is. It has to be agony.

With that said, I pray for their sake that he hasn't gone missing intentionally. Taking a few days to sort out some personal issue is one thing but to be gone this long is just cruel to his loved ones. From what I've read, it seems like he was genuinely close to his parents and I can't imagine what would keep him away this long, unless it is against his will.

I live a few towns away from Naperville and I'm keeping my eyes open in case made it back here somehow.

OT (kind of): My son was on Vyvanse for a short while for his ADHD (can't recall if it was ineffective or too many side effects but he stopped not long after starting). I recall it being touted as a pill that was not likely to be abused because of the tough outer coating on it. But after snooping around a bit today, it sure seems like a lot of people have found a way to get around that coating so that they can get high (as BluePoppy's post above mine confirms).
