You know, that's a very good question. There's another case I follow here, Jason Kyles: CA CA - Jason Kyles, 34, Oakmont/Sacramento, 1-Feb-2013. In April he was seen "<snip> on a mountain bike trail in Annadel State Park. Jason had removed all of his clothing and was doing a walking meditation. " (link to specific post here: Jason Kyles, 34, Oakmont/Sacramento, 1-Feb-2013)
Off topic, but this reminded of the girl that went on a "spiritual journey", walking away naked from where she had been camping with a couple of friends. In Maine or Washington or Oregon? Does anyone remember that girl's name?

ETA: Maureen Kelly, that was it. Off to see if there's ever been any updates on that case.

Here is what is bothering me...

You cannot survive for more than say 3 days without good clean drinking water...less in a hot and dry environment. After about a week without food, your body would become weak you would not be able to move. (anyone been watching nekkid survival?) I also know this from my training....

So even if Bryce is alive and well after the crash, he would need food and water. He can't be just "camping out" or hiding in the woods. Circumstances dictate he would need have a source of food and water.

If he is in a confused/disoriented state for what ever reason and in the woods, after this amount of time either he is being cared for, or...I just don't want to go down that road at this time.

It was posted that he was not in the vehicle when it went over the embankment. Why the blood then? There would be no physical trauma. If the glass from the window is inside the SUV, it was broken from the outside. If the glass was on the outside, it was broken from the inside...that one is pretty simple and would fly in the face of him not being in the vehicle when it went over....OR...there was more than one person in the vehicle and Bryce was not alone and he helped the second person get out.

His scent trail goes off into the wilderness area according to the SAR dogs. Unless there are other convenient egress points within a mile or two out of that wilderness area...he's still there.

If this is all staged, it was very well planned....but I doubt it.
BBM: IF Bryce is still in the area (or even was for a while), there is a campground nearby (at Castaic Lagoon, the lower lake), so water is available. Food (if you aren't squeamish) can easily be scavenged from trash receptacles, enough to last a week if you pick correctly. I watched a kid (might have been homeless, but I don't know) do this at a park where one of the adults in our group had purchased a sandwich in a plastic container, ate only half, closed the container and threw it in the trash can. Other trash got thrown on top of it, but being in a plastic container, the other half of the sandwich looked pristine, especially to a hungry kid. It's amazing how much edible food gets thrown away. (Water bottles, too)

My point is that there is food and water available currently, so he could survive in the area, which makes "hiding out" still viable for a possibility. It also makes dazed, wandering and hiding out elsewhere (fast food restaurants all over) viable, depending on what he is wearing, because the average person doesn't look at the homeless, they usually try to look away. Those shoes, though. They are pretty distinctive. I'd notice those even before his hair color.

I agree, I don't think it'd be that hard for him to get food and water as long as he got to where other people are, or found a dumpster. I was kind of shocked when I went to my local grocery store close to closing time not long ago and saw them throwing out a huge garbage bin full of rotisserie chickens, turkey legs, and tri-tip that didn't sell. They reduce the price after it's been on the shelf for more than an hour I believe, and then after about 3 hours it's trash... a whole chicken, etc. that sat on the warming racks too long. I'm sure it's a daily occurrence for most grocery stores. IMO.

I also wonder how clean is that lake water? Is it clean enough for him to drink it and not get sick from it? I know they've said he's probably not in the area anymore, but he could be getting water from the lake maybe. Or water fountains in the campground, if he headed that way.

Just some random thoughts...

I've been camping up in Malibu, where there was some homeless people. And each night, there were sightings and reports of some of the homeless getting into ice chests and taking drinks or firewood. Not saying this is what Bryce did, but there are ways of getting what you need when you need it without money or credit cards.

Interesting on the website checklist that the writer also references the "Gardai," which is the name of the civilian police force in the Republic of Ireland.

Checklist is a bit dated though since one can now access immediately and in real time phone records and bank records. Also an interesting note. According to recently released numbers the Sheriff's station in the SCV handles about one missing person's report PER DAY. 60% of these are teens who are angry and bunk in with a friend; usually resolved within 24 hours.

Welcome! Law Enforcement has called off the search of the Castaic Lake area as thoroughly searched. Family is still searching and LE are still on it as a live case.
Interesting article today.Authorities find 6 bodies in submerged cars in Oklahoma.
online about 2 cars being pulled out of a lake with bodies in them after decades underwater. Two separate missing person cases solved 40-50 years late. Divers with sonar happened upon them while training. Very sad that families didn't know for decades what had happened. Don't let this be the case here.

Hey Kev!! We must have posted at the same time. I was just going to search for the article because my link didn't work. Thanks for posting it saved me a search.

Since the water temp was in the 70's he would have surfaced after a few days as the body starts decomposing and filling with gases unless weighted down.

You never know stranger things have happened. He could have been murdered and weighted down by someone who was familiar with depths of certain parts of he lake.

Would someone have been able to take a fishing type boat out early and thrown him overboard? I don't know the lake hours.

Since the lake is deep, I think it's possible that he could have gotten caught in debris on the way down, and now this is weighing down his body and keeping it from surfacing. JMO

I hope this is an acceptable question... assuming he hasn't been able to shave, how much facial hair might Bryce have now? I saw a kid/young adult with red hair riding his bike by my house earlier. I'm positive it wasn't Bryce, but I definitely did a double take. His facial hair made me think about how Bryce's appearance might have changed. I wonder if it'd be useful to add any photos to his missing poster, if the family has some photos with facial hair or could get some made with facial hair superimposed.

Very possible, to me. Does not have to involve foul play.

Wondering what the one article linked earlier today meant, that said all of his clothes were in the car...does that include the shoes he was wearing etc.? Was anything not accounted for? Did he remove his clothing? Or do they mean he packed other clothes and those were found?

His roommate said something about him grabbing the essentials and leaving MOST of his clothes. He must have brought some clothes with him and those were what was left in the car (not the clothing he was wearing.)
