The video or camera evidence of the SUV circling and the entering the ramp area... Was this just a license plate camera as some have mentioned? Is the only evidence that BL was even in the area of the crash the tracker dog observations and the blood stain in the SUV (presuming it is BL's) ...

IIRC it is a camera at 7-11 that just catches the front lic plate of vehicles entering lake area. It doesn't capture interior of vehicle so we don't know who was driving or how many occupants of the vehicle.

I have a question maybe someone can answer....is Oasis Valero Gas Station and Valero Gas Station the same thing?

TIA

I don't know if this helps, but here's a store locator page:
http://www.valero.com/Stores/StoreL...ctionMode=rdDirection&ButtonMode=GetDirection

If you click on the various locations you'll see all kinds of different names including:

Corner Store #3550
Oasis Valero

... and numerous others. In fact a lot of them don't even have "Valero" in the name. I'm assuming they're probably branded as Valero once you get there - not sure - but from what I can tell it looks like Valero and Oasis Valero are the same thing.

Good question. I suppose the easy answer is that he wanted to take a nap by the lake. I think he was troubled about something and maybe the lake seemed like a soothing place to contemplate and chill. Yet, why take those risks (drive around gates, etc.)?? I wonder if he saw a sign for the lake on the freeway and this is why he took that exit.

Don't lose sight of the fact that Bryce drove past the CCTV camera (going the same way) on two occasions - 2:07am and 4:20 am. He didn't randomly come upon the gated entrance to the boat launch access road.

if I might suggest there is a high possibility of psychological looping errors with this lad needing to repeat tasks. This could also explain the missing time in Buttonwillow.

We naturally use loops (complete circuits) in order to complete mental tasks and if anyone is familiar with addict behaviour, they have a big problem with looping as well (I'm not suggesting in any way that Bryce is an addict).
Persons with ADD, ADHD or Aspergers suffer with this brain dysfunction as well. When the circuit can't be completed (satisfied) they return to the beginning and start again.

There is a chemical imbalance in our case with Bryce having taken amphetamine medication (whether prescribed or not). His brain is not functioning as it would normally. He may have needed to attempt tasks many times over.

BBM: Exactly. This post says
"9:00 a.m. Thursday - Bryce runs out of gas near the Buttonwillow Rest Area, west of Bakersfield.

12:00 p.m. Thursday - a roadside assistance serviceman named Christian delivers three gallons of gasoline to Bryce, according to a $20 credit card purchase for the fuel. “He’s not answering his phone (at this time),” his mother said.

12:30 p.m. Thursday - Karen Laspisa calls serviceman Christian and asks about her son. He tells her he appears “OK” but adds: “His eyes look a little red.” Bryce does not answer his cell phone.

That makes Christian checking on Bryce at 12:30, only 1/2 hour after the time the gas was billed, not several hours after the gas was delivered, correct? Unless the gas was delivered earlier and billed at 12:00, but that is just conjecture on my part. (Who takes three hours to get three gallons of gas 10 minutes up the road? Not AAA usually, anyway, so something else odd happened there, too.)

The second link says
Upon Karen Laspisa’s request, “The roadside assistance serviceman went back to the rest area hours later to see if Bryce was still there. He was still at the same place where roadside assistance left him.”

So which do we believe, since they seem to contradict each other?

Funny thing about the map is that when you look at it zoomed out, it looks like the Oasis Valero is on the east side of 5. But when you zoom in, you can see it is on the west side of 5.

Ha... I hadn't even noticed that. Some store "locator" huh?

I really feel these "sightings" are all false and that Bryce is unlikely to be "on the run" like a movie or The Fugitive, one step ahead of LE and his family. IMO, he either never made it out of the lake area or he had a place set up to run to. No offense intended, but from what we have heard about Bryce, he does not sound like he could take care of himself for long out in the world on his own. JMO

Sorry to quote myself. :) Also I know this is getting to be kind of overkill on the subject so I'll drop it after this, but I wanted to completely confirm (as much as possible) that we're talking about the right Valero. I'm pretty positive the Oasis Valero in Buttonwillow is the right one.

Out of curiosity I looked up the one in Lost Hills labeled on their site as "Corner Store #3550." This is NOT the one Bryce went to, but it confirms that the stores go by various names. The Lost Hills "Corner Store #3550" is definitely a pretty typical looking Valero, based on the Google walkaround. Hopefully this link works:

Neither could my son, but he was missing for 4 mos. I'm still keeping my hopes up :)

There are signs for the lake on the freeway, but it's a totally dark area at night, not inviting. There are plenty of cheap motels right off the freeway.

Okay curiosity caught the cat(me)

After looking at all the maps and picture I want edit to see the area for myself. I drove up there after I picked the kids up from school. A few things intersted me.

1. The area where he pulled off is extremely random. There are quiet a few places to pull off and rest rather then the 20ft break in the guard rail. I really can't figure out where he thought he was going other then getting down to the boat ramp.

2. Where do they think he exited the park? If the car crash happened around 4:20-530 and he walked down the main road it would have taken him a long time and would have been seen by someone. And to get to a truck stop is even further. (Don't people still go fishing early in the morning?) if he walked down to the water, back up to the crash site and out of the park he definitely would have been seen. It is not a short distance.

3. If he trekked the opposite way of the lake he would have gone into open Forrest with low lying brush and small canyons. If they didn't start searching for him until after 8am when LE showed up at his parents house asking about the car. That give him a good 3 hours to wonder. I remember his uncle saying they did a search that day but did not search again for a few days which gives him even longer to wonder off.

I don't know. If the dogs were right and he went down to the water maybe he swam somewhere. If they were wrong I think he could have wondered off the other way. Was their any searches going away from the lake?

Going up there really makes me even more confused. Could there have been another car that met him coming from the other direction? I know its a long trek but still possible.

Thank you for checking that out. You have some astute observations and good questions. Thank you.

Do they mean that the officer has not seen him since or that it is actually not him? :/

It kind of think it does but it is so unclear. The comments are unclear as well, even though the Beacon attempts to clear it up with a comment, that continues to be vague (shouldn't reporters be better than that at conveying a message?)

Could you tell us what your son did to survive those 4 months? Maybe it'll give us an idea of where Bryce is.

The 7-11 is no where near the lake. It's right off the freeway. You have to drive past a bunch of houses and then you get to the big sign for the lake. After that is the lower lake and then you still have to drive maybe 1/2 to get to where he pulled off. IMO the 7-11 just shows he was in the area. He could have gone anywhere from there

I'd be more apt to believe the trail of the scent dogs that had an untainted article of Bryce's clothing. IIRC the first scent dogs were using articles of clothing from the vehicle. We don't know for certain who all was in the vehicle after the wreck, nor who else came upon the vehicle afterwards. The last dogs who tacked his sent leaving the park were using untainted clothing that the girlfriend provided a week later. JMO

Gotcha. My question is which way out of the park did they track him?

Is there more than one camera? I haven't heard that there was, but the more I read the more it sounds like it, one at 7-11 and one at the lake. If so, do we know where the "lake" camera is, exactly? I assume it's got to be near the entrance. I've also assumed the main purpose was to bust people who didn't pay the entrance fee, since it just shows license plates. If there are different cameras I wonder what they show. I would think a 7-11 camera would want to capture faces... unless maybe it just happens to catch the lake-goers' license plates from a distance but that's not the purpose of the camera. So confusing.

The camera that captured Bryce's license plate isn't at the lake or at the 7-11. I think the 7-11 keeps coming up because on the Find Bryce FB page there was a post early on that the police were reviewing the tapes from a camera at 7-11 in hopes that Bryce may have gone inside however they posted on the FB page afterwards that there was no sign of Bryce on the 7-11 video.

Below is the (awesome) post from kevsrebla that links to photos of the camera that is on Lake Hughes Road, slightly southwest of the lower lake (lagoon) and just east of Ridge Route Road (try saying that 10 times fast!)

Hope that helps!

Here is the camera

I did a google drive of the area and this is the only one I found on Lake Hughes Rd

Here is a map. This is what I believe to be true. Please correct me if I'm wrong. I also mapped how far it is from 7-11 to the accident site. Where the other camera was is right near a large sign for castaic lake. It's not really an "entrance". You dont pay unless you go into the lower lake beach area or down to the main boat ramp. There is no fee to drive up Lake Hughes rd.

Thank you, Thank you! This is a huge help and I hope will clear up a number of questions. It did for me, for sure.

(oh and I gave up after trying to say that 5 times fast lol... )
