I believe Dragracerz stated that the front windshield had no visible cracks...will have to go back and find it.

I looked at the pictures Dragz posted and I don't see a crack, so it probably was something minor.

Here are pics of the vehicle.
Note: Windshield not broken
paint on tires match paint on road

Hopefully this will confirm to everyone that car went down the hill and was found on road

Thanks so much for posting these. Really helps everyone understand the accident better.

Questions - Sorry if this has been covered.

Do we have any idea what Bryce may have taken out of the unzipped bag/backpack/duffle?

Was it possible that the bag was unzipped to begin with?

I know speculation is frowned upon, but if LE searched the car would they have also searched the bag?

If he opened the bag after the accident, and removed something - this may have been important to him and important to what happened.

Thanks!

was that fresh paint on the road? how did it get on both tires?

LE marked the location of front and back tires where the SUV ended up. The paint overspray hit the tires...

No I think he slept somewhere else completely. And then when he woke up he accidentally went north instead of south and lake Hughes rd. There's no area to uturn there so he sees the driveway for the antenna and goes there to uturn around it. In the dark you can't tell the road ends. By the time you realize it you're going down a mountain.

Yes, there's no way to stop the car once it went down the point of the gate. Its extremely steep.

This is the theory I posted yesterday,
makes more sense than any other.

It's early here ... but I think I need a drink. :drink:

That SUV looks silver to me ... not tan, beige or gold. JMO

Are we sure that's BL's SUV?

to early

This sounds so easy to do! Have there been other, similar accidents up there, do you know? Maybe the park (or somebody) could put up a sign that says "No Outlet" or "No Turnaround". I'd hate for somebody else to end up in the same situation. It sounds like Bryce was very lucky, if his accident happened the way you've described.
Thank you again for going there, and reporting back to us!

Bryces car is seen entering the park at 4:20, car is found by worker coming in to work at approx. just before 5:30. Sheriffs were also coming in to do an exercise and were notified immediately, approx. 5:30
It was 8:00 when CHP notified Bryces parents that the car was found

The accident happened between 4:20 and 5:30, my guess would be shortly after 4:20

Well, why didn't you just say so in the first place? Could have saved me a lot of trouble! :D

Actually, not true, because ~

I'm a lot like this guy/gal and like to question things until I'm sure of the facts (they seldom seem easy to uncover/pin down) and don't like it when even simple info doesn't match up as a case moves forward. :banghead:

It must have been narrowed or something. I swear to you its a 2 lane road. If it was 3 lanes we wouldn't be debating this. As a matter of fact I was telling my husband to be careful everytime I saw a car coming toward us because it was windy and only 2 lanes. Its pretty gnarly at night.

It is a two lane road but I wouldn't say narrow. My daughter and I turned around right past the tower in a ford fusion.

No, yes & I believe unknown on what exactly they searched (although there was discussion previously about what exactly they'd be allowed to search).

Bottoms up! Pictures of the car just made it so much more real. :frown:

Do the pictures convince you of a roll type accident though? Looks like slid/slide to me.
I'm no expert on car accidents but shouldn't a vehicle that rolled have damage to the roof and possibly hood as well?

haha! i have a great sense of adventure :D done some pretty, um.... dumdum stuff in my day, including your in-between C. scenario. almost rolled a golf cart too but recovered :)

thank you for this post! you paint some easy to follow scenarios.

Yes, I remembered reading somewhere that Bryce was pretty crazy, life of the party kind of guy.

Seeing the car, I could see "oh crap, I am in trouble now" kind of feeling. But I still am having trouble turning that into actually making good an "escape" and managing to stay "on the run" for going on two months. JMO

Correct. In a sedan I think its possible. Unfortunately Bryce had a medium sized SUV and so do I. Its narrow with our cars. I couldn't do the uturn. Nor could my husband.

Glad we finally have a full picture of what happened. Maybe not the circumstances behind it but at least some questions were answered.

So he couldn't make a u-turn. You only need maybe a foot or two to make a 3 point turn. No reason to turn on a small dirt road in the middle of the night to change directions. Especially if there is no street sign and you driving up a mountain.

Sorry. It just doesn't make sense to me

Why back up or do a u-turn? Where is your sense of adventure? :-) I cannot for the life of me, come up with a scenario where I would head down a steep unfamiliar hill in the dark.

Scene: Turn into antenna site to rest, contemplate life, hide, wait for friend, blow a doobie or make a simple u-turn. You get stuck and are unable to return to Lake Hughes Road. Figuring for a solo occupant.

Normal solution:

A. Call for help. Tow, CHP, Sheriffs, friend, parents.
B. You walk for help. Sub-station, rangers.
C. Maybe you can drive down. You walk down the hill and scout the terrain. ooops, big drop-off at the end. No can do.
D. Wait and flag someone down.

Not normal solution:

A. No terrain check...Go for it...Drive down and end up on the road on your side.
B. Walk down hill to check terrain, see drop-off and still decide to drive down. Ending up on the road on your side.

The in-between, not the smartest solution.

A. The car is stuck in soft dirt either parallel to or perp to slope. Get out move dirt from around traction tires and gravity takes over. Away she goes un-manned.
B. Turns into site comes down the right side of tower enclosure. As it gets steeper you say "DOH, this is steep better stop". However, you are on a steep slope and tall dry grass. When you hit the brakes...Nothing happens..Because you are skidding on the slick grass. You try to stop the forward momentum by turning the wheel left or right.. You roll one complete revolution, nose is pointing down. Holding on for dear life at this point, you end up on the road below.
C. Same scenario as B. Except when you realize that the car is not going to stop, you jump out. The car continues down the hill unmanned.

The tweener C. scenario is a strong possibility. Anyone who has driven a golf cart on an incline and hit the brakes knows what I'm talking about. Throw a little early mornig dew in...No stopping just sliding. I have both rolled a cart and jumped from a cart that was sliding on a hill. The B scenario there is a lot of brushy area where I would think the brakes would catchat some point before the drop-off.

Oh, oh! Did investigators check the underside and other places-crevices of the vehicle for dead grass, sticks and stuff that would have collected/caught as it declined?

Do young people still take quaaludes? That could be an explanation as he was hoping to get some sleep possibly.
Also, may have protected him from serious injury.

Only a theory; not an accusation.

That's fine if you disagree but I've been driving a long time and I was unable to get out of there without going into the driveway and backing out. At night I would rather do that then attempt a dangerous turn on a pretty narrow road. Someone without the most driving experience easily could have thought it was the easiest option. Its not like we have a better scenario.
