Identified! CA - Butte Co., Male Skull, on Sacramento River bank, Mar'15 - Eugene Shepherd

A Department of Fish and Wildlife officer and his dog came across part of a human skull that was exposed from the dirt, walking along the west bank of the Sacramento River across from Scotty’s Landing. It appears the remains have been there for at least a year and is an older male.

The remains were found March 8 along the west bank of the river, across from Scotty’s Landing. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office announced Thursday that using DNA tests, the remains were identified as those of Eugene Warren Shepherd, 65, who was reported missing to the Red Bluff Police Department on Feb. 3, 2006.

No foul play suspected.
