The discovery of a 5-year-old girl's body inside a storage unit in Sacramento last week led to the arrests of her father and stepmother, and prompted a joint investigation by police in California and Nevada. Reno police identified the girl as Cali Anderson, who was Tyler Anderson's daughter. Leyanie Robinson, Cali's biological mother, told Sacramento's FOX 40 that Tyler Anderson had full custody of the child.

Girl whose body was found in Sacramento storage locker died 2 weeks before, affidavit says

A Nevada 5-year-old whose body was found this week in a storage locker in Sacramento was dead for nearly two weeks, according to an affidavit obtained Saturday by KCRA.

Tyler Anderson, 23, was arrested Wednesday by Sacramento police on suspicion of manslaughter after officers found a body inside a storage locker at a U-Haul storage facility on Glenrose Avenue in Sacramento, authorities said.

He is being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail without the possibility of bail.

His wife, Averyauna Anderson, was also booked into the Washoe County Jail on Wednesday, records show. Averyauna Anderson, 23, is being held on charges of child abuse with substantial bodily harm and destroying/concealing evidence.

Averyauna told Reno detectives Cali seemed immobile and unresponsive May 4. Court documents said the couple tried life-saving measures from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., attempting CPR and waking Cali up with a cold shower.

She also told officers that she and Tyler kept Cali's body in a duffel bag in a closet for a full week before driving to Sacramento to hide her body.

Reno police noted in the affidavit that no emergency calls to first responders were ever made.

Court documents described the couple’s Reno residence as “unkempt,” with items and spoiled food scattered all across the apartment. There was also a mattress with food stains in the living room.

Detectives also found a wire animal crate inside the bathroom with handcuffs attached to it. Next to the crate was a girl’s backpack with clothing inside, including a hat with the name “Cali” on it. Old food was also found inside the bathroom. No signs of pets living in the residence were apparent during the investigation.

An initial Sacramento County coroner’s report found Cali’s body was malnourished and emaciated.

Malnourished, emaciated, handcuffed in an animal crate. Another stepmother who didn't like having someone else's kid in her house. A lying liar stepmother who told LE that "Cali had been experiencing health problems related to weight loss, trouble digesting food and occasional vomiting."

IMO the "health problems" were two uncaring adults - a stepmother who hated her and a father who couldn't be bothered to care.

A Nevada judge set a preliminary hearing for a Reno couple accused of murder in the death of the man’s 5-year-old, malnourished daughter whose emaciated body was discovered in a California storage unit.

A Justice of the Peace set the two-day hearing for 24-year-old Tyler Anderson and his 23-year-old wife, Averyauna Anderson, for Jan. 24-25 in Reno Justice Court.

Averyauna Enoch on trial for the murder of stepdaughter

Averyauna Enoch faces first degree murder, child endangerment resulting in death, and obstruction charges. Her stepdaughter Cali Anderson, a five-year-old, was found dead in a duffel bag at a storage unit in Sacramento in May of 2018.

In opening arguments, prosecutor Kelly Kossow said Enoch was not cooperative with investigators at first. But later during questioning Kossow told the jury, Enoch told investigators Cali had stopped breathing and Averyauna and her husband at the time, Tyler Anderson, tried to revive Cali.

Tyler Anderson has already plead guilty in this case.
