COTATI, Calif. (KRON) — The Cotati Police Department reported Monday that a woman went missing while driving to Oregon. Camille Rose Markovich, 26, was last heard from in the area of Eureka, CA.

Markovich was driving from Cotati to Selma, OR on Highway 101 and was last heard from Sunday night at about 10:05 p.m. She did not make it to her destination and police said her family is “very concerned” about her whereabouts.

Markovich is described as a white female with brown eyes and brown hair.

She was driving a black 2017 Subaru Outback with an Oregon license plate, 210MME. Her car has a cracked windshield.

Markovich’s last cell phone ping was registered at Hoopa Valley Reservation, which is near the Oregon border. Police said she may be in the area of Highway 101, Highway 299 or Highway 96.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Cotati police at (707) 792-4611.

Unless Camilla went out of her way to go visit a friend, the route from Eureka to Selma, OR would be 101 to 199. Its a straight shot according to Googlemaps. This leads me to think something may have happened in Eureka, but that is just speculation. It doesn't have the reputation of being safe, and at night it is certainly dangerous. Camilla apparently used a credit card in Eureka. We also know she spoke to someone at 10:05 p.m. Cell service is strong in the area surrounding Eureka but not elsewhere on that stretch. Hopefully there are some cameras that were filming throughout Eureka when Camilla was there.

As an initial observation, seems like you would want to search along route 96 north of Carpenters Lane (Hoopa).

Looks like you could get to Selma via route 96, by also continuing on and then doing a long loop on the Interstate 5.
Rather than going as far north as the Interstate 5, a driver might instead plan to turn off route 96 at Happy Camp town onto Grayback Rd, which would take you through the mountainous terrain to eventually link onto route 199, not too far south of Selma.

Another possibility, less likely, might be if a driver turned off route 96 at Weitchpec onto route 169 (north of Hoopa), which would also take you through mountainous terrain to link onto route 101 - don't see why a driver would do this rather than simply staying on the route 101 coast road to begin with.

If we knew where mobile phone coverage stops/starts along the route 96, could probably develop better theories.
Also, whether the phones 'last ping' indicated whether the phone: 1. Was turned off, 2. Was due to the phone battery being too low, battery dying, 3. Was just a normal ping ( with no other normal following pings, as would be expected, if the phone continued up the 96 past other cell towers?) & therefore maybe the phone went into water or got smashed (say as the vehicle crashed down into a ravine).

I just messaged a very good friend that lives and is a mechanic in Eureka to BE ON THE LOOK OUT. His first commment was "she mistaked hwy. 299 for the correct road of 199 and is lost". Lots of shady "GROWERS" in all those mountains.

Siskiyou Media Council

Camille Markovich is missing and we believe she might be stuck in between route 96 and highway 199 with that cut off at Happy Camp. The Cotati Police department has been in touch with Siskiyou County to urge them to assemble a search and rescue team today, 11/8. Contact Cotati Police Department with any information a 707-792-4611. #missingperson #cotati #siskiyiucounty

Am I seeing something wrong... There is only one road where her phone pinged and it's 96? It doesn't look like their is anyway to break off that road after Willow Creek.... BUT I'm from the East Coast so I know nothing about driving in California or remote areas like this.
