On the Evacuation Plan photo, all 3 fire escapes are shown on the one side of the building. The opposite side of the building shows the elevator in the middle. The "You are Here" is at the elevator. If you are facing the elevator:

the arrow directing you to the left says:

Stair 2
Floors
2 - 15
No
Roof
Access

the arrow directing you to the right says:

Stair 1
Floors 1 - 15
Roof
Access

Other than the 3 fire escapes, it seems the only access to the roof is via Stair 1.

That's what the Chinese investigators said as well. you have 1 set of stairs that will take you to the roof, and 3 fire escape on the outside of the building that will get you to the roof if you have the guts to climb it.

The Evacuation Plan we have is for the 5th floor, but presumably there is one at the elevator on each floor.

Had Elisa heard the loud noise BD referred to, thought possible earthquake/bomb, whatever, and was anxiously popping in and out of the elevator, checking / double-checking the Evacuation Plan, and when the door wouldn't close, she headed for the stairwell with a view to evacuating?

she lives in BC and they get earthquakes on that side. she should know what an earthquake feels like right?

Do you know what the sound was?

I live in BC and we are e/q paranoid, and even though I know what they feel like, if I was in a tall bldg in Cali, i wouldn't know what a loud boom was and might be looking for the quickest way out.

Dunno, was just a thought

Not to mention it's not a guaranteed method of killing yourself. If the tank had been half full, she could have stood in the water. She couldn't have known beforehand if:

  • there was access to the roof
  • if there were accessible water tanks
  • if the tank lid were not locked
  • if the water level inside the tanks were high enough to drown herself in

as well as closing the lid after you've jumped in, if the lid was found closed.

Kingsway -- I can't buy the suicide yet because where are Elisa's clothes, personal items?

Maybe they're hidden somewhere on the roof, the 15th floor or she dropped them off the roof on the street..Right now we don't know this

LAPD, from I've read has'nt said anything about finding her clothing, belongings...Unverified suspicions were reported her clothing may have clooged the tank drainage valve ...Right now we don't this either

Whatever term Bernard Diaz used ... can't recall ... the noise that rousted him out of bed, and IIRC, he said it was around the time she went missing

Maybe but...not necessarily. There actually aren't *that* many here...

Just a quick suggestion - there is a feature on Google where you can sign up for alerts about whatever subject you type in, so for example, you can type in "Elisa Lam" and set it so that you will get an E-mail either every day or once/week with any new links that are published about Elisa Lam. I did that the other day, and it's frustrating how it's been 2 days since I set it up and I haven't gotten an update. :/

Anyway, might be something to look into.

I don't know about the whole theory about the boom being related to her behavior, since I still don't see her acting really terrified the way I'd be and I've seen others be in a real natural disaster or similar incident. The only thing I can maybe see is that if there was a loud noise and it happend to be going on right near the end of the video, it was what convinced her to leave the area not on the elevator.

Lots of ifs, as with everything else in this whole case right now.

Isn't there a rule not to take the elevator in emergency situations?

Usually only in a fire...At least, I have only noticed signs around elevators saying not to use them in case of fire. But...People ignore those signs...A fire alarm went off in my apartment building and I took the elevator...:blushing:

Longtime hotel resident Bernard Diaz reported flooding on the fourth floor at about the time Lam disappeared, saying he heard a thump so loud one night he "fell out of bed."

from:
http://www.examiner.com/article/bod...ourist-found-water-tank-on-top-of-cecil-hotel

Bernard Diaz, 89, said he heard a "tremendous" noise the night before Lam was missing in the fourth floor above him and there was flooding on the fourth floor the day after Lam went missing.

I just realized people have suggested that her splayed hands in the video could be describing flooding, but that wouldn't make sense if the flooding was the day after she disappeared.

Has anyone come up with any good theories about why there was flooding? I apologize for asking, but this past week my brain was pretty foggy from the concussion and I'm only just starting to feel normal again. :p

Whatever the source of the flooding betweent the 3rd and 4th that BD referred to, I've often wondered if it was an overflow or something that Elisa was upset about and she was trying to get help to deal with it.

Lots of possibilities and questions ... sadly no answers

Possibly the attempted disposal of all that (as far as I know) unaccounted for clothing down a pipe system unsuitable for that? I don't know that I think that's what actually happened (who knows what that guy was talking about/ how credible he is/ if it was even related at all), but it's a feasible concept I think.

News: We should be getting more videos and pics of Cecil in the next few days. There is someone that's flying over to LA to join some other people and they will be going to Cecil to take pictures and videos.

I think LAPD picked up EL's belongings from her 4th floor room

Again, I've no idea where her clothes were when they found her naked in the tank

So there are 2 separate issues here

IMO If they can't find her clothes around the rooftop area, it looks more and more like a murder scene, than suicide

Anyone have any insight on this, it's a big help

To address the flooding.

First off the water tank on top and possible flooding are not directly related.

The water tank is part of the supply system, anything clogging it would cause a water stoppage or low flow problem not one related to an abundance of water like flooding. It's also a gravity fed system, water is pumped up from street level to the tanks on the roof and uses gravity to feed the water throughout the hotel.

Secondly the resident talking about the flooding was on a lower floor like the 3rd if I'm remembering correctly? I'm certain if a person say on the 3rd floor had a problem with flooding and it was caused by something on the roof we'd have heard a lot more about some pretty significant flooding at the Hotel Cecil.

The flooding would be something like a bathtub or sink overflowing, a toilet clogged up etc etc etc... and would probably be located on the floor directly above the person who was reporting it.

So using this train of thought I can't see why Elisa would be on the 14th or 15th floor discussing flooding 12 floors below with an unseen person. Secondly I would assume a normal instinct would be to call the front desk or go down to the lobby to report the problem.

I'm not saying the flooding and Elisa's death are not related, all I'm saying is her body in the tank on the roof and the flooding 10 to 13 floors below are in all likelyhood not related

From my readings, the Cecil Hotel's had legendary water, power issues for a long long time...no AC, no heat, low water pressure, flooding, etc

The flooding brings a good theory why she was roaming around the hotel...

I'd like to hear more about this if it's in main stream media/MSM
