Identified! CA - Carlsbad, LIVING WhtFem, 50s, amnesia, Feb'15 - Ashley Menatta

My personal opinion is that that the amnesia has changed her accent. She really could be from anywhere. Makes it all the more hard to figure out :/
I am usually good at identifying accents but this one stumps me.She does not sound Land of Aus or New Zealand to me at all. She sounds English, but is rhotic. For a sentence or so she sounds US southern. My best guess is, American or (less likely) Canadian, watched Masterpiece Theater a lot but did not get the accent down precisely. I don't think that is her real accent, because it is not consistent. I bet she will turn out to be from the southern US.
FWIW, the nearest accent I have heard to this is a woman from Scotland who I recently met in the Bahamas. She has lived in the islands for a long time.

Is it just possible she could be Amy Fandel? If the person knew her twenty years ago and was homeless, maybe (if she is Amy) she ran away from whoever took her and lived on the streets? Twenty years ago, Amy would have been 24, but I think the street ages you.

What are the odds she choses Sam when her real name may be Sam?

When NBC 7 asked Carlsbad Police to explain, they referred all questions to the FBI. An FBI spokesperson, aware of the increased media attention around the globe as a result of NBC 7's story, said the new information gathered today should help lead to a definitive identification soon.

It sounds like they have a pretty good idea of who she is and are just waiting for confirmation before they make any kind of announcement.

I think of her being a US born eccentric wanderer who ended up homeless is a pretty good possibility. Maybe she suffered from some kind of mental illness way before the cancer and amnesia and pretty much lived out her life pretending to be whoever she wanted to be. The only thing that makes me question her being homeless is the expensive clothes and shoes she was wearing when found. Maybe some elderly wealthy person had taken her in and gave her some clothes?

Could she be faking the amnesia?

Guess we will find out. Hospital might have been a nicer option than the streets at the time :/

She just doesn't strike me as homeless, but I could be wrong. Too many things about her hint at money.
Her hair color being fresh when she was found,
eyebrows look freshly waxed and cared for, shoes and tie were expensive
(I'm curious if the shorts and top were also designer brands)
Dining in organic restaurants, swimming in salt water lap pool (you better have money to invest in that)
and her time on the ocean in a yacht type with crew.
Seems to have traveled the world. Military spouse is possible.

It would be simpler if she was a local but the police are pretty much aware of the street people and it seems she just appeared from no where. Also, street people will help each other (they have friends) and no one seemed to be around for her. I feel like she was abandoned, left for dead by traveling companion. He identification may have been stolen or simply not left with her.
I hope not but it makes sense right now to me.

Ooh, I am just catching up. This is great news. I can't wait to find out who's avoiding her, and why.

I read an article that said some of the restaurants are posting and passing her picture around.
I think the FBI knows who she is but is unable to release the info yet.
I've seen several posts and articles that lead me to think this.

I hadn't thought much about the tie but I agree and they are also not cheap about $200 from what I can see. So, that with the fairly expensive shoes are a bug clue.

not really - she could've stolen them

not really - she could've stolen them

Or bought them at a good will or secondhand store.

Or bought them years ago when she had money and still wearing them.

It's a style typical of old money New Englanders at summer resorts.

Though some people would refer to a cafe as a restaurant, especially later in their memories.
It also sounds more special to say you ate at a restaurant rather than a cafe.

my 84 year old father-in-law refers to every place that makes food as a restaurant - and he eats three meals a day in them so when he says "I was down to the restaurant", I have no idea if he's referring to the coffee shop, the pizza joint, the deli, or an actual restaurant

I'm wondering and thinking since her fingerprints didn't match would that indicate that she had been in the states for an extended period of years? Wouldn't her passport have been stamped if she came to US recently? This has me puzzled and makes me think she has been here quite a while.

I think she has been here awhile too. I don't think she would be faking the amnesia because of a guy that might have been after her or abused her. If that were the case, wouldn't she want to keep a low profile so he couldn't find her? The suspense of who this woman is, is killing me. lol I hope they hurry up and identify her.I wonder if she could have had jewelry and a purse and someone mugged her? She may be having flashes of memories from years ago when she may have spent some time in Australia.

she doesn't have a passport - if she had a passport, she would know who she was
