Someone commented on the FB page that her Sperry shoes should be able to be tracked to the location they were sold. That would at least give them a lead.

I'm interested in her hair. I get my hair highlighted, and I pray to God that if I ever get shipwrecked from Hawaii and Australia, develop amnesia and cancer, that my roots look that darn good. 'Cause I'm tellin' ya.....after about 8 to 10 weeks, I'm lookin' a haute mess.

what happened with lori ruff? we still don't know who she was right?

Nope, which is why it still does my head in...

She does say some aussi things like breaky but her accent sounds me english to me :/ jut my opinion as an aussi lol

  • #44
They think the teeth gap is from the fall when she was found. I've read that the cancer she has can cause seizures which could also cause the amnesia.

Interesting. Hope someone recognizes her. Obviously not reported missing. Wondering if she ever had kids?

I agree, I'm English and she sounds very much English to me. We also use the word 'bloke' and 'brekkie' I'll be very surprised if she's from Australia. Maybe she's had holidays there or has relatives there but brought up in England is my guess. Jmo.

ETA- I listened to her speaking in the short interview airing on 7News website.

I haven't been able to find the video on the 7News website, but the reporter posted something on his FB page.

"Oh my... this could be the most bizarre story I've ever covered and the FBI says it's legit."

I'm usually pretty good at picking out accents and I don't hear any aussie accent at all.
I do hear a combination of accents, british and something else but not australian.

  • #50
Certainly not Australian and not consistently British either. Possibly mix of south African but honestly if I were to hazard a guess I would think the accent is a function of her brain damage or is faked.

My thoughts exactly.

Here is the San Diego NBC news interview. http://www.nbcsandiego.com/news/loc...sia-Relies-Faith-Social-Media--310911741.html

Some details on things that have been brought up in this thread:
The FBI has taken her finger prints and used facial recognition software in an effort to locate her family.

According to Carlsbad police, the case began February 1 when emergency responders found the woman barely conscious near the corner of Tamarack Avenue and Adams Street in the small beach resort community north of San Diego. The woman couldn’t tell emergency responders her name or any personal details. Doctors think the woman's amnesia was brought on by the antibodies of a malignant tumor.

One would think family or friends would be looking for her. Strange.

Do you think this could be her? It's just I was struck by the facial features.

She has brown eyes. My friends in England say she has a English accent. However that accent could be fake. Some people have awakened with accents or speaking another language. Even a doc that treated her doesn't think she is Aussie... False memories

Barbara McCulkin, Joanne Ratcliffe, Marilyn Qualmann and Amanda Robinson. They all look somewhat similar in facial features.

I have a sincere question. Why are people searching for people missing for a long, long time? I am seeing a lot of posts both here and on the various FB pages showing women/girls missing for 20, 30, 40 years. My thought is that she probably went missing in the past 6 months to maybe a year ago, when the cancer or whatever illness started effecting her brain. What is the thought process behind looking at much older missing person cases?

In the first post, the woman says she remembers "having breakky almost every morning at the organic restaurant across from the ocean in Cottelsoe Beach outside Perth." I found this restaurant which might meet that description:

http://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g580526-d7283898-Reviews-Natures_Harvest-Cottesloe_Greater_Perth_Western_Australia.html

It seems like maybe the owner of the restauant or staff might remember her. I don't know how to take this any further, and don't have time to figure it out right now, but I thought I'd leave it here for the super-sleuths! :seeya:

She sounds pretty English, to me. I've friends from the East Anglia area that often have people think they are Australian. Also I was in New York last week and got talking to a man who we (as English people) thought was Australian only to establish he was actually from England and lived in the USA after a few years in Düsseldorf.

The whole thing seems quite "off" to me though. I would not be surprised if it turns out to be a hoax.
