tjack,

I'm sorry for the pain of yourself and her other loved ones. I had wondered if she had been found. Whatever happened, she is in a wonderful place now, and she will have justice.

LAKE FOREST – The body of a woman found in Crestline on Sunday was identified today as 62-year-old Lake Forest resident Carolyn Dunn Avdeef, who's been missing since June, officials said.

The identification was confirmed by a comparison of X-rays of a leg injury that was part of Avdeef's medical history, said Orange County Sheriff Department spokesman Jim Amormino. She was last seen on June 15.

He said an autopsy performed by the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office found that she was murdered but the cause of death has not been determined.

From January 2009:

A man already serving a 38-year prison term in Colorado pleaded guilty today to first-degree murder for the strangulation death of a Lake Forest woman and was sentenced to an additional 25 years to life in prison.

Nicholas James Vovos, 27, admitted to Superior Court Judge Richard Toohey that he participated with his girlfriend in the July 2005 murder of Carolyn Avdeef, 62, in order to gain control of her bank accounts...

Vovos and Miller fled from Orange County and continued using Avdeef's debit card to withdraw money as they traveled across the country... But their crime spree came to a halt when they attempted to shoot it out with police when they were spotted driving through Wiggins, Colo., in Avdeef's Honda. Officers returned fire. Miller was shot and killed during the gun battle.
