``We have opened a recovery fund for Christie,'' said her mother, Debbie Boyd, who now lives in Gilroy. ``We know she has passed on, but it is a living nightmare as a mother knowing your child is lying in a ditch or a field somewhere. We need to find her and bring her home.''
A separate suit filed by Wilson's family against Garcia and his wife, Jean, alleges fraud in the transfer of the deed for the couple's $850,000 Auburn home to Jean Garcia in January to avoid any potential liens or civil judgments against the property.
``We don't believe the Garcias should benefit at all from the proceeds of that house,'' said Boyd's attorney Nina Salarno Ashford of Auburn. ``All those dollars should be used for the recovery of Christie Wilson's body.''
The suits were filed in Placer County. Garcia's attorneys did not return phone calls for comment.
``This is not about money,'' said Boyd's other attorney, Sandra Amara of Auburn. ``This is about justice for Christie Wilson.''
Wilson was born in San Jose and graduated from Gunderson High School in 1996. She had been living in Sacramento but was set to accept a job offer in Silicon Valley and move back to San Jose.
Her stepfather, Patrick Boyd, is a sergeant with the San Jose Police Department.
``To be a seasoned detective but relegated to sitting on the sidelines and not be able to do what you do best for your family is sheer torture for my husband,'' Debbie Boyd said.
