"The court documents show that Trezell and Jacqueline West committed a crime that “Involved great violence, threat of great bodily harm, or other acts disclosing a high degree of cruelty, viciousness or callousness, with the meaning of California rules of court.”

The documents also states the adoptive parents "Induced others to participate in the commission of the crime or occupied a position of leadership or dominance of other participants in its commission," and allege there was planning involved. However, when asked, Zimmer could not confirm if others were also to be charged."

The details of this case, as they are revealed in court, are going to be sickening.

seems to reference that unfortunately, as mentioned before, the Wests used their other children in the aftermath of the crime, by threatening them to assist in the coverup and forcing their cooperation through intimidation and/or manipulation.

So, the West's are still going with, "Not Guilty"? They are going to stay with their story that the boys wondered off before Christmas? Or? The trial should be interesting.

I feel badly for the other children. It will be terrible if they have to testify against their parents. Especially if the parents deny the allegations. Children shouldn't be in situations like this. Horrible. All the way around.

Can you explain further please

Not @Seattle1 , but there is information about the birth parents in Thread #1. IIRC, imho the State had adequate reason to remove the boys from the custody of their birth parents; the birth parents made inadequate progress in following court-ordered reunification plans.

Orrin was taken from Dean on Nov. 13, 2016, after she returned home from work and found the then-3-month-old “crying uncontrollably,” the claim says.

The boy’s biological father, Charles Pettus had been home with the child.

Dean took Orrin to Memorial Hospital, where it was discovered his legs were broken. Suspecting abuse, Human Services took the child, the claim says.

In June 2017, Dean gave birth to Orson. He was released into her care, according to the claim, but days later was taken from her.

First time I've seen that Orrin was home with Pettus when his legs were broken ... interesting. Also interesting is RD's claim that the boys were losing weight.

I'm convinced Orrin & Orson were not treated well from the onset. Adopting them was a financially motivated strategy and moving to California Valley was an attempt to cover their murderous actions. They needed to go somewhere no one knew them and could ask the question, "where are the boys". It does beg the question about family on both sides. What were they told? Were they getting suspicious? We've long surmised that family expected to see Orrin & Orson at Christmas, so they had to hatch a plan before then.

I'm heart broken for what should have been a wonderful new life for the boys. I hope Trezell and Jacqueline West spend the rest of their lives in jail. I also hope the trial is televised. If not, I don't live far. I might just attend at least a portion if open to the public.

BTW - Pettus' lawsuit states on page 4 -
20. In 2018, Mr. Pettus and biological mother, parents of Cinsere and Classic Pettus, had their children taken, from their custody, by the Defendants due to an investigation regarding abuse with another family member. 21. The Pettus children were not being watched by a relative family member at the time of the alleged abuse incident, and was not under the supervision of any of the aforementioned Plaintiffs at the time of the alleged abuse.

The adoptive parents of Orrin and Orson West were arraigned Friday on new charges of involuntary manslaughter and conspiracy.

[...]

The grand jury returned a superseding indictment that includes the new charges as well as those brought in the original indictment in March. In all, the Wests face two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of child cruelty, falsely reporting an emergency, involuntary manslaughter and conspiracy.

[...]

Trial remains set for July 25.

A grand jury originally had indicted them each for two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of willful cruelty to a child and one count of falsely reporting an emergency in the boys’ deaths.

A superseding indictment, which the reconvened grand jury granted Tuesday, states a timeline under the conspiracy charges. On or about Sept. 1, 2020 to Sept. 20, 2020, Trezell and Jacqueline West "formulated a plan to report" a person, whose name has been redacted, "missing." On or about Sept. 17, 2020 an "unknown co-conspirator killed" another person, whose name has been redacted, according to the superseding indictment.

A readiness hearing is set for July 15. Trial is set to begin July 25. Both Jacqueline and Trezell West are held on no bail.

The new charges don't really make sense in light of this timeline. Involuntary manslaughter means the deaths were not intentional, and yet we're now learning they actually did plan to "disappear" the boys & report them missing a full 3 months before they were ever reported missing. Seems to me the death of these boys was 100% intentional.

Since the duo was initially charged with 2nd-degree murder, I'm not sure how solid the evidence for planning to disappear the boys 3 months in advance is.

The word "superseding" does make it confusing but I don't think it means the prior charges were dropped. MOO

From the article:

Two adoptive parents charged with second-degree murder in the deaths of two California City brothers pleaded not guilty to additional charges Friday.

Both Jacqueline, 32, and Trezell West, 36, now also face one count of involuntary manslaughter and a conspiracy charge in the deaths of Orrin, 4, and Orson, 3, West

I think that the lesser counts are included to ensure a conviction. Premeditation may be difficult to prove without the bodies, or cause of death.

I can see these folks spinning a new drama, where they are heroes, trying to take the blame off of their older children, who deliberately or not killed O&O. Because, if the older children are already implicated, and testifying against the parents, the parents can weave any story they want...and "reasonable doubt", ie..."Casey Anthony'.

My personal opinion has always been that if CA had been charged with involuntary manslaughter she would have been found guilty.

I agree -- especially if the state is relying on minor children as key witnesses. I wish they would locate the bodies of the innocents. The unbelievable cruelty...
