"You have not been honest," an officer says. He tells Trezell he and his wife's story don't match at all. "They have not been missing since Monday," the officer tells him. He tells Trezell his mom has not seen the kids. #WestsTrial

"We talked to your kids. We talked to them. And they have not seen these babies in weeks," an officer says. #WestsTrial
4:16 PM · Mar 29, 2023

He says the 10 year old would have known. And he says the children say that Trezell tells them "they'll be coming back soon." Trezell says he doesn't tell them that. #WestsTrial

Trezell denies lying. Law enforcement keeps pressing him, telling him he and his wife's stories aren't the truth. "You have shown zero emotion. Your wife has shown zero emotion." #WestsTrial

An officer says all 4 children said the same exact thing. They all have the same story -- they haven't seen Orrin and Orson in weeks, the officer says. Trezell denies knowing where the kids are. "This is your chance to come clean," another officer says. #WestsTrial
4:21 PM · Mar 29, 2023

Trezell says he didn't give them permission to speak with his children. They tell him they don't need his permission. The kids' stories are the same. "You know where they're at," the officer says of Orrin and Orson. "You haven't even shed a tear." #WestsTrial

Trezell asks if he can leave. "I'm done with this," he tells them. One person leaves the room. Trezell keeps talking with Officer Brian Hansen. #WestsTrial

"Either you're protecting her or she's protecting you," Hansen tells Trezell, referring to Jacqueline West. #WestsTrial

IMO, T West's own words are going to corroborate his 10 yr old child that testifies against him. I don't think West had the tolerance needed to raise the toddler brothers and wished them gone except he needed the income they produced.

Agree, but if they needed the money why kill the boys? That part confuses me, with the boys gone, their income goes from $4k/mo to $2k/mo.

Both Trezell and Jacque independantly comment that the boys cried a lot. Also that they did not get along with the other boys and were separated. Hearing those dynamics openly disclosed, makes me feel like they weren't coping well in parenting Orrin & Orson, or they simply didn't care enough to invest in them. Not once did they mention trying to get either of them help or services. Neither one spoke warmly of the boys at all. IMO, they were viewed as revenue sources, not beautiful little boys who were actively suffering from all the emotional/physical trauma they sustained in their very short lives. So very sad, they must have been very confused - heartbreaking to envision.

For more than an hour, Trezell West spoke calmly, laughing at times, as he gave law enforcement details of his life with his wife and their six children leading up to the disappearance of their two youngest.

He broke down the events of Dec. 21, 2020, the day he reported Orrin, 4, and Orson, 3, missing from the backyard of the family’s California City home.

Then the interview, a recording of which was played in court Wednesday, takes a sharp turn. It was conducted with several law enforcement officers just days after the Wests reported the children missing.

“You have not been honest,” an officer says. He tells West officers have spoken to his other children and their stories match — they haven’t seen Orrin and Orson in weeks. He says the boys were never at the home the day the Wests said they disappeared.

“You know where they’re at,” the officer tells West. “You haven’t even shed a tear.”

[...]

Hansen was the only witness called Wednesday, and will resume testifying Thursday. The Wests’ attorneys have not yet had an opportunity to cross-examine him.

What I learned from today's tweets. TW thought the two boys had " issues " and they kept the boys away from the other children, which leads me to think that it lead to them harming and killing the boys. TW and JW will most likely not flip on each other because " ride or die ".

Thank you all for the update tweets.

According to their own children, one of the babies was ill and died without medical intervention and it seems the other was killed by one or both of the parents. In the end, they allegedly waited 4 months to report the boys missing so that was $8K they collected that they were not entitled to. MOO

I am wondering if there is more to come about one of the boys being ill and vomiting. Could have been illness but with keeping the children isolated during covid and less chance of catching something. My thought when I first read about the vomiting was from possible trauma to the head or abdomen. JMO.

I trust we will learn more -- from one side or the other. IMO, you can't selectively believe the other children on one thing and not the other. Children can easily succumb to dehydration -- especially if put to bed, and the adults believed silence was golden-- as seemed to be desirable here. JMO.

Anyone else getting a little nervous so far? I was much more confident before the trial started..

Not yet, but it's early. :)

OK, I do believe the other child/children. I was just speculating that maybe something physically happened to the boy that the other children did not witness. Parents like these two seem to not handle caring for a sick child.

That's why they kept it a secret. Foster parents get money to take care of the kids, but money that is left over can be spent on housing and such, so it pays to keep the expenses low. In fact, if they can find ways to not spend any of the foster money on the foster kids, they can fund a decent lifestyle for themselves and their bio children.

But something was about to happen to make people wonder where the boys were, so they reported them missing. My guess is they figured they would get a huge outpouring of sympathy and support, and that would help them avoid hard questions while giving them time to fine-tune their story.

Not sure if it’s already been mentioned but opening statements are on court tv. Not sure if any testimony will be made available, seems they were added a few hours ago.

Did anyone watch this? It is video of part of the opening statements.

At the :19 mark the last known photo ever taken of Orrin is shown. It's dated July 25, 2020 and was recovered from the cell phones that "were seized in this case."

At :33 they show the last known photo of Orson, dated the same day, taken at the apartment on Lotus Lane.

I don't remember seeing these photos before. So tiny and innocent. :(

Thank you for the video, Knox.

So much for "all our recent photos are on our phones, which the police took".

I started out with an open mind. I was willing to suspend my disbelief because I've lost track of a child and know how easy it is to let panic and worry lead to terrible decisions and even paralysis.

But as more and more details come out I'm leaning towards "guilty as charged".

I'm interested in what the defense will say, though. (shrug) Maybe they will change my mind.

IMO, Orrin was likely being deprived of food as punishment. I've said from the very beginning, his appearance changed in the few photo's we have seen. There are other photo's of a family gathering that better depict how gaunt he became, but I cannot bring them here as the source is not approved. This is JMO, but I'm hoping the prosecution will also broach this subject later in the trial. If Orrin was ill, it was because he suffered from abuse - MOO.

JMO; I'm not a doctor, and don't even play one on the internet:

The pale skin and vomiting could have been a number of things. As a parent, I would've taken him to the ER for fear of meningitis. But as this pair didn't seem to even consider doing that, I fear it may have had a more sinister source, such as concussion.

The "thud" the older child heard just conjures all kinds of horrific images. :(
