A body that was found in a stolen car near Whittier has been identified as 19-year-old Dawn McEveety of Huntington Beach.

was found dead on Sunday just after 1 p.m. in a red, 1991 Toyota Celica found abandoned in the 8600 block of Bradwell Avenue in unincorporated Whittier, according to a statement from the L.A. County Sheriff's Department.

Prosecutors charged Anthony Moreno, 38, with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Moreno is accused of killing Dawn McEveety, 19, in Artesia on Nov. 24 and then with others dumping her body in a stolen Toyota that was found abandoned in unincorporated Whittier five days later.
McEveety died of multiple shotgun wounds.

Moreno uses a wheelchair and would have needed help in moving the victim's body. “We are still looking for a couple of people who helped this guy out,” police said. “Moreno is in a wheelchair, and he had help moving the body ... she was petite, and she was stuffed into a substantial ice chest.”

The ice chest was found inside the rear cargo area of the 1991 Toyota abandoned in unincorporated Whittier.

An alleged gang member pleaded not guilty Thursday to fatally shooting a woman in Artesia and leaving the body in an unincorporated county area near Whittier...

The prosecution also charged Moreno with the allegation that the murder was committed for the benefit of, and at the direction of a street gang...

Sheriff’s homicide detectives didn’t reveal the motive behind the shooting.

Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Gang Killing of Huntington Beach Teen Found Stuffed in Ice Chest: DA

A 40-year-old man was sentenced on Wednesday to 50 years to life in state prison for the death of a Huntington Beach woman who was fatally shot and found days later inside an ice chest, prosecutors said.

Anthony Moreno was convicted last month of committing the November 2015 murder of 19-year-old Dawn McEveety on behalf of a street gang to which he belonged.

Man Sentenced After Woman's Body Found Decomposing in Cooler

"Your actions took away an innocent girl's life,'' the young woman's mother, Maura McEveety-Sepa, told the defendant. "She was only half your age when you killed her ... All we have is our memories ... Fortunately, you cannot take those away.''

She said she hoped Moreno would "never have the opportunity to take another life again.''
