Thanks for starting this thread. There's a lot to unpack here.

The disappearance of Derek Barge is not considered suspicious or criminal...
...on his way to visit family in Arizona...sometime in the night, he disappeared into the desert...His phone and charger were located early Sunday morning near a trailhead southeast of the resort...Barge was reportedly “having a spiritual reawakening and wanted to visit a spiritual mountain.”
...Barge appeared intoxicated the last time he was seen Saturday night...extremely disoriented and behaving erratically and some witnesses reported noticing a knot on the back of his head and a cut on his left shoulder​

Hikers found human remains Sunday in Jacumba Hot Springs near where a man went missing in late July, but authorities have not yet identified the body.

It was discovered in the general area of where 40-year-old Derek Barge went missing, according to San Diego sheriff’s Detective Bradley Farr. But Farr said Tuesday that authorities “could not get a positive (identification) due to the state of the body.”

I haven’t been to that area in years but de anza springs resort used to be a nudist colony. Don’t know if it still is. It’s hardly a resort also. It’s just a bunch of trailers. Jacumba hot springs is a very run down town if you can even call it that. Had like 2 mini markets one restaurant. Very strange area all over. Would not shock me if there were quite a few bodies out there.

The reviews look like people either love it or hate it. Yup, still clothing optional. Complaints about WIFI and cell service. Other things. Other folks sing praises.

Poor Derek Barge. It was his birthday. Really worrisome is the bump on his head.

Body found in Jacumba Hot Springs identified as missing San Diego scientist

Authorities have identified a body found late last month by hikers near a Jacumba Hot Springs campground resort as that of a San Diego physicist who went missing from the resort about a month earlier.

Hikers discovered Derek Michael Barge’s body Aug. 29 along a dry creek bed about a half-mile east of DeAnza Springs Resort, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

This sure seems to be a mysterious place. I am remembering another case of a missing man (Jonathan Barmaki) whose car was located in Jacumba Hot Springs (with his poor dog dead inside) in 2016, but the man has never been heard from or seen again.
