ELK GROVE
ELK GROVE, Calif. — The boy stabbed to death Tuesday in Elk Grove by his father, who formerly worked as a deputy for the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office, has been identified.
Mar Aris Untalan Morales, 11, of Elk Grove, died after the stabbing around 8 a.m. along the 7600 block of Ferrell Way, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
A mother at work called 911 after seeing an assault between father and son via footage from cameras inside the residence, said Elk Grove Police Department spokeswoman Officer Cristina Gonzalez. Officers arrived at the house and found Morales stabbed and a 6-year-old girl unharmed, per law enforcement.
CPR was administered to Morales, and he was taken to the hospital, where he died, according to police.
“It’s just absolutely awful,” Gonzalez said in a Tuesday press conference. “We never want to see any children getting hurt.”
Elk Grove Unified School District officials said in a statement Tuesday afternoon the family involved was part of the district, and they are heartbroken by the tragic incident.
Morales’ father, later identified as 40-year-old Marvin Morales, led police on a roughly 25-mile car chase after the stabbing that ended with an officer-involved shooting, authorities said. After the shooting, Marvin Morales was reportedly taken to the hospital, where he died.
Morales was terminated from his employment with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office in February 2024 after being caught using illicit drugs, deputies said Tuesday.
He suffered a fentanyl overdose Oct. 24, 2023, in a sheriff's Central Division office restroom at 7000 65th St., ABC10 previously reported. He was in uniform when it happened.
