Human Leg Turns Up In Sutter Co.

A human leg was found Monday in Sutter County, according to Sacramento police.At about noon on Sunday, Sutter County deputies said they responded to the river bottom area of Garden Highway and Lee Road near Nicolaus on a call of possible human remains found. The area is known as Beer Can Beach.

Michael Gold confessed that he waited until his stepfather, Elmer Eugene McDonald, fell asleep in his La-Z-Boy recliner, then grabbed his head from behind and slit his throat, Gold's cousin testified Wednesday in Sutter County Superior Court.

McDonald's body parts, except for his torso, were found at Beer Can Beach on the Feather River in south Sutter County in late 2009 and early the next year.

According to the cousin, Kathy Avery, Gold said he killed McDonald because he was threatening to report her sister — Gold's other cousin — to police for selling drugs to McDonald's wife Lela.

Gold's mother, Lela McDonald, was sentenced last year to three years' probation for helping Gold cover up the killing.
