FWIW, KCRC is still running last night's newscast. If you go to the livestream:

http://www.krcrtv.com/krcr-news-channel-7-live-stream/30142008

And scroll it all the way back to the beginning, the first 5 minutes or so are all about the shootout. After that they show video of MG and Ember then at about 6:17 they talk about the family and how they're standing behind MG (with a short clip of WG). After that it's a recap of events and talk about baby Ember. They may rerun more later on but I didn't listen to the whole newscast. Other than the Oregon thing it's nothing new.

So... MG ran because he was following a tip that Ember was in Oregon? And his family buys it? :notgood: I really was expecting the family to claim LE "drove" MG to have a breakdown and run, but this? It makes no sense - where did he get that notion in the first place? Did he share it with LE? Did the family share it with LE since they apparently had the info before he ran? Is the family following up on it - doesn't look like it.

I admire MG's family's belief in him (well, not really) but I'm disappointed that they continue to make this all about him and not Ember. And have from day one.

Yep...I have said it before about him but now it's becoming apparent where MG learned that it's ok to put himself first.

Just thinking here but the witness didn't have to say they were going to do laundry, they could have just said they were walking home. Right?

I thought about this too! To me it just sticks out. If you were going to lie why is THIS the lie you come up with? They had time to come up with anything. So who knows what habits people have or why they have them. I've never done laundry at 3am but I've gone for walks at 3am.

So either the family withheld information from law enforcement, or else everyone is full of it as far as this "Matthew was going to Oregon to retrieve Ember" thing goes.

(PS kseal's video is not the exact same one I wanted to post but it does give the gist of the information. His father sure was adamant that MG was going to Oregon to get Ember from someone though.)
He might have been headed to Oregon but I don't think it was for a tip about Ember.

Have you ever met some people and you just want to shout Stop It! Stop sticking your head in the sand!
I get that they love MG, it's their child, their family member but at some point they have to be realistic and admit at least to themselves that he was far from perfect. My heart is with them though as they've now lost two family members. Both by his own choices and actions, IMO.

That gun, the one he was only carrying for protection on his mission to chase a "lead" in Oregon, was used to hold two citizens hostage and force them to give him his vehicle. In addition, from what the witness who lived on Francis St. said, MG was not using the gun for protection but rather suicide by LEO.

I call baloney on the family statements. I feel badly for all who loved this young man but there comes a time to remove heads from sand.

I keep thinking that if he (MG) had someone in his life, that he looked up to, someone that would have come to the jail, when he was in jail and really talked to him, like a friend or a teacher, a Uncle, it would have been a different ending, I'm sure of it, imo. MG would be alive and Ember would have been found. So sad.

What may have been the case is there was a plan for the family to get back together and as of that moment the trailer home was a starting point. We don't know if there was talk of moving into a larger mobile home, or adding to one of the existing places.

As for MG caring for his child while JG went to pack, that doesn't appear questionable to me, they were both the child's parents. So, one parent looked after the baby while the other went off to pack up, which includes going through what she planned on moving out, possibly doing some wash. Sorting things, toys, medicines, clothing, personal items, paperwork. Then get some sleep, get up early for the actual move.

One theory I have is MG left that night to do 'business'. If little Ember was left in the hot car, even with windows open she could have been suffering from heat exhaustion at that time. Then if dad stopped for water or whatever (when neighbor saw little Ember), Ember would still have been in the hot/humid car. Sleeping, so dad carries items into the trailer while baby Ember is sleeping.

I don't want to speculate any further from this point. However I'd love to think little Ember was loved and there was a tragic accident.

My heart breaks for all those suffering over this right now.

ITA! The reporter says in this video that she met with MG's father, mother, cousins, friends and neighbors. She says:

Reporter: They tell me Matthew's behavior over the last couple of days has been strange but they say he's been very stressed and upset over Ember's disappearance. They tell me Matthew fled from LE because he was following up on a possible lead in Oregon. They say he took a gun to protect himself, not harm anyone, and to this very moment they say there's no way Matthew's involved in Ember's disappearance; he simply loves Ember with all of his heart.

WG: Like I said, anybody at all that'd been around him and her together, they would know there's nothing Matthew could do to harm that child. Love, support, everything else, you couldn't ask for a better dad.

BTW the reporter says she'll have more from the family at 6:30 tonight “as they share with me their message to Matthew, whether he's dead or alive. A message they want him to hear in hopes it will bring back baby Ember home soon.” I don't know the timestamp of that interview but it'll be interesting.

Meanwhile, here's what a witness to the shooting said:

"I mean, I've never been surrounded by gunfire like that,” Sargenti said in a phone call only with KRCR News Channel 7. “[An officer was] flailing his arm at me to get back inside of my gate."

The view for much of the media Monday was quite distant, with a police tape perimeter set up a block away from the Francis Street shooting. But ask Mike Sargenti what he saw and the audio and visual was vivid.

"We heard the conversation clear as day,” said Sargenti, describing the standoff with Graham and law enforcement officers. “They made every attempt for him to surrender and he wouldn't surrender."

Lol my friend and her husband swear by it! She is an emt and he is a police officer. They both work night shift on the same days generally, so they go to the laundromat in the middle of the night on one of their days off and do laundry. No one is there so they can get everything in the wash all at once and they watch Netflix together on their ipad. They lovingly refer to it as "date night." [emoji12]

Kimi - was the statement about MG going to Oregon to find Ember the statement you are talking about here? or another video?

An important lead he didn't give to LE to follow up on; not LE which has far more experience than him in dealing with kidnappers, and he's going to go it all alone? Has his family come up with what the "lead" was? No,he was on the run, and the only way it was going to end was him being dead. Either by his own hand or LE. I wonder if his family response is he was protecting himself from LE when they fired upon him?

 • #111
How does the family know about this "lead"? Are they admitting they aided him in his escape and obstructed the investigation by not letting law enforcement know about this sooner? I mean its either that or they are full of it.

BBM. This makes absolutely no sense at all. If they sincerely believe he was following up on a tip, why let him go alone and why report the gun stolen? All that did was unleash the cops into hunting him down.

Doesn't seem like they thought this all the way through.

BBM I heard it here:

It is a video of JG describing how people have been helping in the search for her daughter. She states, "We've had people in canoes that are going down the river....." (at approximately 20 seconds into the video.)

Thank you so so much!! I knew it was somewhere and it was driving me crazy I couldn't find it. I'm glad for this.

Must run in the family.

ETA: I'm quite curious to see more of Madison Wade's interview with the family tonight. What "message" did they send to Matthew that would help find Ember? Other than "tell the truth" and I don't think that's what they had to say.

Apparently it was such an 'important tip' that he decided to walk to oregon by himself to try and find his baby. Then he hijacks a car at gunpoint---but that is only because he was on a heroic mission to save the baby.

If it was such an urgent tip wouldn't it have been more efficient to have the FBI look into it?

Anyone know of Cypress Bridge - I have a reason for asking and will share once I know if it's been mentioned.

This is a wild guess, but if it's on Cypress Avenue in/near Redding is it could be one of two, over either a creek or the Sacramento River. I'm not sure what creek that is, but here's a map showing two likely spots. (maybe a local can confirm if either of these has something called the "Cypress Bridge"?)

If I am breaking any rules about SM please delete but I believe we can comment on FB posts if it's the POI and public.

I am not sure how much of MG’s FB pages you have all read. Until last night, I had just skimmed through. For some reason, I felt compelled to know some more background and went thru many if not all of the posts (late night last night). Before I comment, I will again reiterate my belief that FB is a poor way to make judgments because many people want to present themselves in a positive “happy” light. Not all posts may be public so you don’t get the entire picture.

I see that MG had stretches of time where he seemed to be struggling with pain or relationships. During the “up” times – everything seemed over-the-top-happy but then the mood broke the “downs” appeared. Like of all us, he had ups/downs but I got the sense they were extreme. I saw the cycle and there would be 2-3 month stretches were there were no posts (unless private maybe). I can’t imagine how someone who invested her love and dreams into this cycle would feel. (I did compare timeframes and saw what JG posted but won’t touch that here).
The drama was what seemed to fuel the past relationships. The ex’s became “crazy’ and he had to leave and found love again. Here is my timeline if you are so inclined to read and reference the posts on MG page. I think this death was not planned and spur of the moment (accident/anger?) and he couldn't find a way to escape from what he did so he tried to cover it up. I am not an expert on depression, pain, addiction or any other disorder but I think all of these factored into yesterday's results along with poor coping/judgment. No excuses though.

RSBBM

Drug abuse and mental illness is quite common.

Co-occurring disorders are very common. In 2002 an estimated 4.0 million adults met the criteria for both serious mental illness and substance dependence or abuse in the past year.

http://www.justice.gov/archive/ndic/pubs7/7343/

Not everyone who has a form of mental illness will 'self medicate' but many people who self medicate have some form of untreated/undiagnosed mental illness.

I wouldn't call it desperate, I call it obsessed. A very unhealthy obsession.

JMO

Along with desperate another word to describe this is DENIAL. Denial is a coping mechanism so powerful it can distort reality.
