Hi, Catherine:
There is no update. There is no lack of media coverage. LA County Sheriff's deputies are still investigating and have not turned the case into the district attorney yet. Once they do, there will be more info to share. Otherwise, they are not commenting on anything.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Sue

Can we please get an update on this case? It has been over a month since this innocent child was dumped on the side of the road by her mother.
I am baffled by the lack of coverage by the media of this case.
Thank you. Catherine xxxxxx
Hip hip hooray!!! I FINALLY got a response!
Good for you lovejac- Im happy FINALLY someone got thru- Nice to know that the SD is handling it- That would mean that the area she made the report in is where they are charging her- which sounds right!
Thank you- I am still going to continue to send mine- This poor baby still hasnt receieved the attention she deserves- Maybe it would get the info to the DA faster- I am going to look up the LADA and post tomorrow- sorry, Im on my way out- GREAT JOB Lovejac :clap:

That was going to be my next question! I read it and re-read it and re-read it and I was still unsure. So, what the reporter said is encouraging that Stacey will be charged with something, right???
I think the response you got Lovejac means that this is still an active investigation. I feel relieved that LE is waiting to make sure they have all the test results and looking at every possibility whether Emma died in a real accident or it was foul play. Either way, Stacey is still on their radar and the least they could charge her with is the false report and disposing of the baby in the manner that she admitted to. Don't know why the newspapers and LE just stopped reporting days after Emma died, but the response you received from your email looks like charges will be forthcoming in due time.
Lovejac, I'm glad you got some response, but I still think it was a non-answer.
Just b/c LE isn't commenting doesn't mean the media has to stop reporting. We saw that with Casey, JonBenet, Madeline, and so many more whose stories made the news daily even when there was nothing to report.
What was Stacey like growing up? Was she in trouble in school or a quiet girl? Are the people who know her stunned or just saddened that she has finally gone too far?
What type of forensic and autopsy tests take this long to finalize? Could that be a clue to how Emma died? And are you kidding me that not one person has leaked Stacey's story???
How do the residents of that area of town feel about being silently, subtly accused of Emma's death in Stacey's original story? Is it justified - by that I mean is the crime really that bad as to make the story believable, or is it a racial stereotype like with with Susan Smith? Was Stacey familiar with that area for some criminal or nefarious purpose, or did she just hear about the crime rate on the news?
I could write several articles on these topics alone, and I feel certain that a dedicated journalist could find much more to cover. Personally I think they don't want to - they have decided to let Stacey crawl back into her hole and fade from the public's conscience. WHY???
Thank you, bogeygal, that thought really gives me hope!
I still sent my e-mails out tonight, just not to Sue (but I did send her a thank you e-mail)
Sorry it took so long- I honestly don't think we will hear anything as there is a disclaimer that says they do not comment on any public cases. At least we can let them know that we havent forgotten about Emma Leigh Barker or the PERSON who dumped her on the side of the road. :furious:
This is the best email addy I could find:
mailto:[email protected]
Good Luck all who are emailing- I am still doing at least once a day with NO response at all!!!!
I hate the answer I'm about to give you, but here goes. I think it's because there hasn't been enough local, public outcry to find out what happened to precious Emma. I cannot explain that though.

Hi, Catherine:
Thanks for letting me know that.
And I know what you mean about thinking long and hard about this poor little girl. I can't imagine what in the world really happened and am anxious to hear what authorities and the mother finally say.
The sheriff's detectives said the mother is not in jail. So it sounds like there could be more to this story than what we know right now. It will be interesting to find out.
I know what you mean about this story sounding like Caylee. They are both tragic and disturbing stories. Prayers are good for both little girls.
And I understand the frustration you must have that this story could get lost in the avalanche of news we get every day. I have a folder for Emma on my desk and will stay on it. Thanks so much for reading the stories.
Sincerely, Sue

Thank you SOOOO much for answering! I have been emailing different media outlets for 3 weeks and you are the first one to answer me with a personal note (as opposed to the automatic replies) I cannot express how much I appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedule.
I guess by 'lack of media coverage' I meant that I find it odd that this case hasn't drawn more attention, from the public and/or media. It makes me think of poor Caylee. Little Emma has just been on my mind and in my prayers. As a mother of 3, I'm trying to comprehend how a mother could discard their child on the side of the road after an 'accident'. I can't stop thinking about this innocent baby.
Sincerely, Catherine xxxxxx

I have had no response either Chicogirl! I have sent the DA's office one a week for weeks now!
I am so frustrated with the local paper! NOBODY ever returns or even acknowledges anything I have wrote.
Like the above poster wrote that there is a ton of things that could be investigated in the case. Don't get me started on racial profiling- I firmly believe had she been of another race she would have charges of some kind and had to post bond in order to attend her childs funeral. :furious:
