I wonder if she did choke to death why would they have to wait for autopsy tox results? Also, if she choked to death why would Barker be arrested for murder? I was under the impression that if somone chokes to death because their windpipe is obstructed that obstruction would show up at autopsy.

Lancaster Mom Arrested For Murder in Toddler's Death

He described Emma as a "beautiful, happy girl'' who smiled from the time she got up to when she went to bed.
"You lose it, you get it together, you lose it, you get it together,'' he told reporters.
"She was so young and it's such an unnatural tragedy.''
Barker said there are constant reminders of Emma around the house that surface at the most unexpected moments.
The TV menu catalogued the last movies they watched together. Emma especially loved "Bee Movie'' and "Alvin and the Chipmunks,'' he said.
He said he last saw Emma the night before the alleged abduction when he got home from work just before his granddaughter's bedtime.
His voice choked with emotion as he recalled the memory.
"I was holding her in the family room and I was dancing with her and slowly dipping her,'' he said.
"She was laughing and smiling and we were looking at each other eye to eye. After that it was bedtime and Stacey gave her a bottle and put her to bed.''

PALMDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Eyewitness News has learned that the Palmdale mother accused of killing her 18-month-old daughter last month has been taken into custody Thursday.

Kat this doesn't sound like an accidental choking. That would have brought manslaughter charges or child endangerment, I would think. The news reports are saying murder, which makes it sound pretty deliberate.

My husband saw her in a local Bar/Mexican restaurant just last week with an ugly bald guy, they both were drinking at the bar. He said she didnt seem to be acting right for someoone who just had lost a daughter in death. I knew from the start of all this that she killed that precious little girl....nothing sounded right and the only comfort I get from this is knowing that one day soon she will reap what she has sown from the hands of God. Wicked, wicked excuse for a mother she is!!!!

I don't get it, at all. Some of these kids live their lives on MySpace Yet Emma is barely a blip on their radar. Is it, they live too far into the moment. March was a life time ago?

LovJac I didn't receive a single email back, not even from Levi. I was sending off her MySpace blurb. That alone said everything to me.

Sunny yet sad

I still wonder what goes through people's minds. A new one to

If her uncle is the mayor and an atty would she need a PD? Doesn't sound right to me...

ETA: Parris devotes significant time and funds to helping troubled youth and eradicating child abuse. He is the founder of the Lancaster Child Abuse Task Force,

Just to let ya all know that there is NOTHING on the 5 or 6 news that hasnt been reported here on WS. We trumped them on everything so far, as this case has yet to hit any big news. It was the 7th story of the night, but LA is a HUGE place and LOTS of news to report. You all have done great sluething and I completly agree, local comments often tell the true story

Sad to watch it, but glad there isnt another Casey that will garner attention that she does NOT deserve!!! Let her get her day in court and dwell on what she did in that cell all by herself.

She committed a VERY selfish act and deserves to suffer in silence.

BTW- I havent heard anything locally about the uncle connection, but Tammie lives over the hill where Stacey lives-- Im in the San Fernando Valley where Emma was dumped.

Also, I doubt the sandwich theory- It would have shown up in her autopsy that she choked, IMO.

This story happened in my area. I livc in Palmdale, work in Lancaster. Stacey actually still works at the same place as me but I don’t know her- its a huge corporation. The dad, Anthony was in Emma’s life but is not mentioned anywhere at all. He was paying child support and got to see her every other weekend He is hurting really bad right now, from what I heard from a mutual friend. Supposedly its suffocation but its all hearsay at this point. Everyone at work hates Stacey now. Keep him and Emma’s grand parents in your prayers please. I’ll post any updates I get when I hear them.

Stacey Barker, 24, who had been questioned by detectives but released after the March 19 discovery of the body of 18-month-old Emma Barker, was arrested Thursday afternoon and booked at the Lancaster Sheriff's Station on suspicion of second-degree murder, Lt. Don Downton said.

"Within the last several weeks investigators were able to interview several people in the case," Downton said. "Charges are expected to be filed as early as Monday morning, and she could be arraigned as early as Monday morning."

Barker was jailed in lieu of $1 million bail.

Sheriff's officials declined to comment on how the girl died or what led them to arrest her mother. Investigators had been waiting for the coroner's office to declare the cause of death, and coroner's officials said Thursday evening that the case had been sealed under a "security hold" and they were not allowed to disclose any information.

Second-degree murder is murder committed without premeditation, such as in the heat of passion or in a sudden fight.

Emma's body was found after Barker recanted her original story that she had been assaulted and her daughter kidnapped at a Lancaster park and said the child died as a result of an accident. Barker told detectives she panicked and dumped her daughter's body in tall grass near Roxford Street and El Dorado Avenue, off Interstate 5.

Sheriff's officials never disclosed what sort of accident Barker said killed her daughter.

Emma's funeral five days later drew hundreds of family and friends to Palmdale's Desert Lawn Memorial Park, where the toddler was eulogized as "a princess and a little girl who always had a smile on her face." During the service, Barker sat between parents Susan and Gary Barker, holding their hands.

I am so glad this was finally arrested. I am also happy to read that the family will not be paying for a defense attorney.

I don't believe the sandwich story either. Stacey did something to this baby and then threw her out of the car. May justice prevail!

Well I haven't commented on the recent events. I thought I would find some sort of happiness that Stacy was arrested but right the opposite... just feel sadness when I think of what a waste... Stacy had a future, Emma had a future and oh how hard it must be for the grandparents/parents involved in this. I have daughters Stacy's age... I just can't imagine if this happened to a grandchild by the hands of MY child!

Chicogirl you mentioned trying to figure out STA- it is short for Station. Lancaster does have temporary housing for males and females, I would suspect that after she is arraigned if unable to post bond she will be transferred to larger holding facility.

Well to all of you that are sitting here talking about how you worked with stacey or you used to be friends with her and now you dont stand behind her. If you truley were any friend of Stacey or the family you would know that she would NEVER do anything to hurt that little Girl..Emma and Stacey were a huge part of my life for 14 years and I know stacey I know that family and I know that she wouldnt do anything to hurt that baby. Yeah maybe she made a mistake out of fear, after the horror of seeing your child dead and there wasnt one thing you could do about it... You yourself can say all you want that you would never do that. so would I but if you people have a life or children of your own...GO ON GET BACK TO THEM AND LEAVE THIS FAMILY ALONE...
