With a $1 million CASH bond set for both. "The Haros’ arraignment was ultimately pushed to next week, which, according to Riverside County Public Defender Brian Cosgrove, should be enough time to ensure both Jake and Rebecca are each appointed separate attorneys who will need time to learn more about the case." Their arraignment will continue on 9/4/25. According to the Riverside County DA's office, they are also charged with making a false police report. Rebecca is currently being held at the Robert Presley Detention Center, while Jake is being held at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility.

Sep 3, 2025 BRIAN ENTIN INVESTIGATES

"The Riverside County District Attorney blamed a judge for freeing Jake Haro — the man now accused of killing his son, Baby Emmanuel. But are prosecutors equally to blame for how the case was handled? In this edition of Brian Entin Investigates, former Riverside County prosecutor Kim DeGonia explains why she believes Haro was undercharged and what she expects will happen next in the current case."

can one of our verified attorneys weigh in on this? My understanding is that both co-defendants were assigned one public defender to defend them both? I was under the impression that could be a big no no as both defendants will have differing interests and possible defenses. How can one attorney possibly adequately represent both?

They made their initial joint court appearance on Aug. 26, when Riverside County Superior Court Judge Gary Polk appointed them a public defender and scheduled their arraignment for Sept. 4 at the Riverside Hall of Justice.
Couple accused in death of baby Emmanuel Haro due back in court

Co-defendants in a criminal case may be tried together or have separate trials. In either situation, it’s possible that one lawyer jointly represents two or more co-defendants in the same case. While that might make sense from a practical viewpoint, judges are typically leery (as are attorneys) of joint representation.
[snip]
Co-defendants often have conflicting interests that make it hard for one attorney to mount an equally effective legal defense for all of them. When that’s true, joint representation could violate a co-defendant’s constitutional right to effective assistance of counsel, which is part of the Sixth Amendment’s guarantee of a fair criminal trial.

May the wheels of justice speed up and lock away these two forever.

Why does Jake get two lawyers?

I assume they're still searching for baby Emmanuel. Has anyone seen an update?

Good question. Maybe one for baby Emmanuel's case and the other for his other offenses unrelated? Parole violation or whatever it was? Gun possession? I'm just guessing.

The Riverside County Public Defender's Office has assigned deputy public defenders Allison Lowe and Paulette Garthwaite to represent Jake Haro. He is also facing an older charge of being a convicted felon in possession of a gun and ammunition, which is strictly prohibited. He was convicted in 2023 of child abuse of another one of his children and was on probation at the time of the new charge.

Rebecca Haro will be represented by private attorney Jeff Moore, who was appointed by the court.

Sept 4

The search for Emmanuel continues.

Anyone with information on this case or the whereabouts of Emmanuel are encouraged to contact the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Homicide Detail at 909-890-4904 or submit an anonymous tip to We-Tip.

Prosecutor who charged the Turpins..Kim (something) w blasts the DA/prosecution on both cases against JH and this case too againt RH & JH.
JH and his lawyer Hughes knew damn well that he was undercharged with brutally beating his 10-week old daughter and that is why he pleaded guilty before the judge.

The responsibilty goes back to DA Hestrin who inappropriately under-charged JH in 2021. He should have been charged with abuse of a child under 8 who was left paralyzed which is life with parole and the judge never could have given him probation.

Insult to injury his probation for violation should have made the judge send him to prison for the 6 yrs that was suspended by the 2023 sentencing judge who gave him probation.

Now in this case there's still no charge of abuse of a child under 8 resulting in death.

OMG!

You brutally beat you 10 week old newborn almost to death and leave her blind and paralyzed for life but taking a little course in abuse management makes you low risk to re-offend.
To be capable of such a savage beating on an infant you have to have the deepest rooted emotional/mental problems that no quick course could scratch the surface of.
So now throw in the 2 social workers who JH woo-ed with his deception with the DA, DDA and judge(s) who all gave JH free-range to strike again.
imo

Emmanuel Haro’s father Jake judged as low risk to abuse kids months before son ‘was tortured to death’
