Ukiah Daily Journal Staff

The Daily Journal

Search and rescue teams were looking for a Fort Bragg man Thursday morning after the 33-year-old was reported missing Wednesday evening, the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office reported.

According to the MCSO, Eric Grant was reported missing by his employer, the Mendocino Redwood Company, around 6 p.m. Wednesday.

MCSO Capt. Kurt Smallcomb said Grant was last seen around 1 p.m. Oct. 27, and later his truck was located near the bluffs in the 2000 block of North Highway 1 in Albion.

Smallcomb said Grant was known to park at the bluffs during his lunch breaks, but never returned to home or work Wednesday.

MSCO deputies, assisted by Mendocino Redwood Company employees, the Albion Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard and others searched the area near the bluffs, as well as the trails and shore, but did not locate Grant.

Smallcomb said the search began again at 9 a.m., and as of 11.a.m., Grant had still not been located.

Anyone with information is asked to call the MCSO at 463-4085.

Looking for photo.

Friends and family of Eric Grant, missing from the Albion area since Oct. 27, are offering a reward for information that may lead to his location and recovery.

Sheriff's Lt. Dennis Bushnell said the department has about $2,000 in commitments for the reward fund so far.

as a wildlife biologist, Grant rarely went anywhere without his binoculars.

Do we know, based on this statement or other media reports whether or not Eric's binoculars have been located? I equate the statement that he rarely went anywhere without his binoculars as similar to statements of missing women rarely going anywhere without their purses. If his binoculars have been located, this might point to foul play?

This article from September is on the murder of Jere Melo, a city councilman who was in the woods. There seems to be some speculation that other individuals, including Eric Grant, may have been killed because they upset a marijuana operation...

As I researched this case, I kept finding pictures of Eric handling raptors. I find myself wondering if his love for them was somehow involved in his disappearance.
