Mom knew she had had the miscarriage Eileen - you may already realize that.

i know we have to turn things over in our own heads and make decisions based on what we've witnessed and experienced, but I am still surprised based on everything we know about her that she didn't tell her mom she was pregnant. It looks like her mom is truly her best friend looking through her facebook. Her mom (and often only her mom) posts "likes" and I love thats to her stuff.

I know there are reasons why women don't tell their moms - to surprise them in person, not to worry them - but I'm still puzzled in this one case.

Right. Because working backwards, that's about all the sense you can make of it. "In light of the fact that none of us were told, I guess it's a good theory she was planning something when Mom got there in July".I wonder if Jon was asked if she had any kind of fun way to announce the pregnancy or if he can shed any light on why she hadn't told yet.

One thing I find odd, and maybe it's just me, but the family hasn't asked for any help in distributing fliers. I know the 29 Palms area and JT are fairly small and those areas may already know she's missing. However, Yucca Valley is nearby and there's the entire "low desert" area which consists of Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indio, etc.

Also, on the Locate Erin FB page somebody suggested to the family that perhaps they should hold a candlelight vigil. I haven't been able to find any information indicating if the family is on board with that idea or not.

Call me crazy but this investigation seems to be being handled completely different than most missing person cases. Is it due to the military connection? Law enforcement knows something and aren't disclosing it to anyone? I don't know. Just seems paculiar...

I wonder if the "flier" thing is generational? They seem VERY focused on getting people to share on facebook and continue praying. I think that may have taken the place of paper fliers?

That's why, besides the military connection and the homicide team working on this, I wonder if there was some kind of ransom or reason to believe she is alive. Maybe they are afraid if too much info comes out, it will ruin any chance of getting her back alive?

I agree with you, seems odd she wouldn't share with Mom sooner.

We found out our daughter was expecting on our Anniversary last year. She wrapped up her pregnancy test and we thought it was a gift. She had taken the test earlier in the day, no way she would have been able to keep that a secret. We have a beautiful little grand-daughter, who is three months old in two days. So this hits close to home for me. I hate that Erin's Mom is going through this right now.

In some cases, LE won't say they suspect foul play for months. Here, they said it quickly. As I said earlier, I think that has to do with something found in the car.

Handing out purple ribbons is a nice gesture but it doesn't replace getting fliers with her picture out there for people to see. Honestly, I don't know if a candlelight vigil would help raise awareness either. The area that she lives in is a relatively tight-knit community so I'm guessing the locals are well aware of her disappearance. I would think getting out fliers with her picture to a broader area would be beneficial.

While I think there are a lot of suspicious things in this case, I just don't find it strange that she didn't tell her mother yet. Miscarriage is a very emotional thing for many, and everyone's reaction is different. It could easily be that she worried she would "jinx" it this time by telling before the "safe" time was reached; it could be that she wanted to tell her mom in person. Perhaps it was fun for her to be holding that surprise for her mom.

Erin hadn't been in 29 Palms that long, and being shy she probably had not had an opportunity to make many friends yet. In addition, her family is from TN and is staying on a military base. I can see that making a big difference in terms of what family can do, KWIM? They are doing a good job speaking to the media though.

LE in the Kortne Stouffer case and many others was tight-lipped too, so IMO, this isn't peculiar.

I talk to my mother every day. As do many of my siblings. No one in my family announces pregnancies until after the first trimester. And often then, only when they realize people are catching on. It varies from family to family and culture to culture. Several fairly late miscarriages (third or fourth month) have made it even later.

Other people pee on a stick and start making phone calls, but I cringe inside when people do that and hold my breath until they hit the 2nd trimester because it's just how I was raised.

Having watched the most recent CNN interview with Erin's mom, I have to say I can't imagine she would be staying at the couple's home during this time if she had any reason to suspect the husband of foul play. Also, if LE suspected him of anything I can't imagine they would allow her to stay at the home with him, presumably just the two of them.

If I had a missing daughter and suspected her husband had done something to her, there is no way I would be able to be within 2 feet of him.

I have many questions.

Who did she spend time with who would she confide in?
I think LE has a lot of information they are not telling.

Were they happy?

Remember the Barrista Whitney Heichel she left her husband that one morning kissed him and went to work her neighbor raped and murdered her.

I've seen others say she miscarried, and that's true. With the first pregnancy she announced it very early on facebook, and set up a gift registry. At that point she miscarried and is now pregnant again. i'm with you, I do find it very . . . odd that she didn't at least tell her mother. At this point she would have likely seen the heartbeat and have US pictures to share. Considering how close she is to her mother I just think that's one odd thing I can't understand.

I don't think it's odd at all. She's alternately referred to as 2 and 3 months pregnant, so I'm guessing she's 10-14 weeks. Post-first trimester miscarriage, lots of folks wait to share the news that they're pregnant until their out of the "danger zone" (i.e., week 13). Couple that w/ her mom coming to visit right as she approached/passed that line and the excitement of being able to tell her in person? IMO, totally normal that she waited and was planning to tell her on this trip.

I am still very confused about the search area. Why are they so convinced that she can be found in the JT park area, when her car was already back at the base? I wonder what evidence they have to keep them in that area? Did they find her cell there? Did it ping there last? Was that Park Ranger correct about the sighting maybe?
