Hopefully it won't matter Seajay, if they convict and lock him up until "Hell Freezes Over"!!!

Yeh, I can live with that. It's just such a dishonor to all the men and women who served before him and will serve after him that he can commit a murder while in the service and keep the same discharge status that everyone else, who served honorably and gave so much for our country to earn that status.

I can understand USMC's point that it's a love triangle, it's civil, it happened on federal land, and that it's considered a domestic crime, not a military crime. But still, another Marine, one in good standing had his wife brutally murdered, someone he lived close to on the military installation. Had he not been in the Marines, his wife would not have been murdered that at 29 Palms.

But it is what it is. I will settle for him being in prison until he dies, whenever that is.

I'm still reading through but don't want to lose my thoughts:

1: The 3 weeks pregnant always sounded odd to me, but if that's what JC gave police, that would be what EC told him, and she may have adjusted it from 5 weeks to make it fit in when he was at home. A couple of weeks at the end of the pregnancy is no big deal.

2: I'm going out on a limb to say that NL actually told CL that if he loved her and wanted to keep the family together, he would kill EC. I believe she participated in the planning and the coverup in order to preserve what she had with CL, but made him actually do the deed, to "prove his love". That would also forever tie them together, making sure he couldn't cheat again. MOO.

3 weeks pregnant would be very early, but home pregnancy tests CAN pick up very small amounts of HCG (depending on the brand 10-25 MIU/hcg.) If she had a 28 day cycle / ovulated on day 14 / got a positive 6 days before her period was due on the 28th day, she could get a positive test on day 22 of her cycle (which would be like 3 weeks + 1 or 2 days pregnant)

This is assuming that her pregnancy progressed rapidly, because once you ovulate, it can take 6-12 days for implantation. It doesn't seem like a huge window, but in terms of when she would get her positive test, it would make a difference. This doesn't account for shifts in ovulation (say she ovulated on day 16 instead of 14) or whatnot.

Which is not accounting for the assumption that at 3 weeks pregnant, she would be taking a test as 8 days past ovulation, which if she was NOT trying to get pregnant, would make no sense at all, IMO. Most women who are not trying don't test until after they miss a period.

I kind of wonder if the 3 weeks pregnant was in addition to the 2 weeks leading up to ovulation = 5 weeks pregnant, and he was just confused. There are some digital tests with week predictors and it will say 'Pregnant 1-2' or '2-3' or '3+', which really means 3-4 weeks, 4-5 weeks, or 5+ weeks (the test calculates estimated weeks pregnant by levels of HCG present and then uses a determined average for those weeks - and it does not account for the follicular phase/the 2 weeks leading to ovulation) So, if she took one of those to show him she was pregnant, he may have read it was 'Pregnant 3+' and thought, 'Oh she's 3 weeks pregnant.' Or, she did it out of convenience, to try to pull one over and say 'Oh, look, we JUST got pregnant!' because as you stated, the dates may not have matched. And what man is really going to read how pregnancy tests work if she did that.

I know nik, me too. I think he honestly believed he could get away with it. I don't know how since he left such a trail of evidence behind. He sure didn't learn how to distance himself from any of the crime elements. Throwing the .22 shells and rebar down there with the body was stoopid to say the least. Those two things tied directly back to him. Anyone who watches any crime show knows you don't leave anything at a murder scene that can be directly traced back to you. He might as well have thrown his military ID down the hole with Erin and the other stuff.

Hi Guys, Lets spice things up. Has anyone seen the movie Jack Reacher. Maybe there is too much evidence. Who else could profit from this situation? NL is mad for what CL has done. JC has really been messed over. What's the chance these two put their heads together?
NL had access to CL's things to some degree. Tires on both vehicles could be the same. JC has keys to EC's car. NL knew where the .22 was. Who is to say what person researched the mines and disposing of a body. NL made those incriminating statements about CL. MB's description of those in the RED car could fit JC and NL. Maybe it was a three party split and CL drew the short straw. Maybe everyone has been fooled. We may need Charlie Chan on this one!
Just thought I would put that out there in case CL's attorney needed more ammo, but this is where the defense will be going! I really hope LE has all their ducks in a row.
Peace.

I'm having a hard time believing CL didn't realize how much the affair would jeopardize his career. Its not something a service member would have to look up. It's instilled in your brain from boot camp, on. There are severe ramifications to everything. We had a friend at our last duty station go "X" (I can't remember what it was) months with an expired tag, fully knowing he would not be able to drive on base for 2 years if he got caught. What happened? He did it anyway and got caught. Something so minor that he could've taken care of in a matter of minutes. He knew the ramifications and still made that decision...daily. I am almost positive CL knew the extent to which he could pay, but had an affair anyway, risking it all. It happens all the time. For serious offenses and very minor ones. But now, here CL sits, facing even more serious charges, with "dishonorable discharge" being his last concern.

i keep reading this dishonrable discharge, i believe that is worse case scenario, also i want to share my dirty laundry which will give some insight into the emotions that must've been goin on, and also wondering if y'all realize the Lees and Corwins lived NEXT DOOR to each other up until Erin went missing ... In my unfortunate experience, my ex and i were both active airforce, he was having an affair with a civilian woman married to same rank airman, I could tell the way they acted around each other, and all our friends lied for them. Then,,, the husband found out and wanted to kill my husband, adultery charges were brought up on my husband, he lost a stripe. no dishonorable or any discharge or any loss of benefits, but he got an article 15 and losing a stripe is losing paygrade. It was awful, humiliating and it affected me so much, i was 20 and serving overseas, the girl didn't get in any trouble except for whatever wrath her husband gave her. Last we heard they were being transferred, good, I couldn't stand seeing her. It took a long time to forgive my husband, and i eventually divorced him. I can't imagine nicole and JC found out about the affair and had to live next door to each other, I didnt live next door to the mistress, but would see her on base and when I saw her, i wanted to kill her, i felt like she betrayed our friendship and humiliated that she stole my husband, as if she had something over me. Them living next door to each other is what really blows me away on this case. Especially since both wives were stay at home housewives types and former friends and HAD to see each other coming and going.I can't imagine them all being at the same party the night before Erin disappeared. I wonder if JC and NL were allies in a sense--i didnt know the mistress's husband that well, so we didn't talk but in this case, it came about that the neighbor told NL who then told JC about the affair. Anyway, just wanted to share hope this gives some insight into the drama of base life.

I know a lot of people have already posted this, but we can't say THANK YOU enough to the incredible, incredible efforts of LE, various agencies, and military intelligence that has retrieved Erin's earthy remains. This mission, and the discovery of her body have been nothing short of miraculous. God Bless all those unbelievably skilled and incredible human beings who accomplished this retrieval.

Continued prayers for EC's family, friends, and most especially JC.

Thank you for sharing your experience and strength with us. That had to be a very painful part of your life.

I can't imagine living in close proximity to the woman my husband was sleeping with and having to see her strut her stuff all the time. In all that pain, I'd want to hurt someone and it wouldn't be me. LOL

From what I'm seeing, charges aren't brought up in infidelity cases with the military unless a high ranking military member is cheating with someone of a lesser rank or the wife/husband of someone of a lesser rank. I can understand why, the ranked military member could use his/her position to their advantage when it comes to the spouse of the one they are having the affair with. I heard of a case where a rank member was having an affair with a lesser ranked member's wife. He kept giving the husband assignments that would take him away from home often so he could have the time to spend with the guy's wife. I could also see giving out dangerous assignments if he wanted the husband out of the way. So it does make more sense that it's with members of authority to be punished and court martialed for infidelities. It puts the military in a tenuous position.

Apparently what I'm finding out, is that cheating is a big thing on these bases. I lived off post so none of my immediate neighbors were military at the last place I lived and the place I did live with there was a lot of military families, it was still off post and I only knew the women, not any of the men, they were always gone on maneuvers and jobs on the base. Fortunately, I missed all that drama. I wasn't tempted once by anyone in the military.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to be clear - so we have speculation that the "red car" may have actually been an older model maroon jeep? Is there any confirmation of this, or just speculation? That's where I'm getting stuck. I can't take it as fact unless/until the witness comes out and says "oh yeah that might be what I saw, I thought for sure it was a sedan..." Did that happen and I missed it?

It's all speculation. MB hasn't stated that his description of the car was incorrect. Actually, tvscum stated in thread #8 that they called up MB and asked him if the vehicle he saw could have been the jeep and MB said he was sure it was not a Jeep Cherokee. http://www.websleuths.com/forums/sh...-Palms-28-June-2014-8&p=10847809#post10847809

I doubt the super clean brand new red 4 door sedan that appeared to be a Kia or a Hyundai Accent was actually a 17 year old maroon Jeep Cherokee.

If MB could tell that the female at the car was wearing her hair pulled back in a pony tail and what color her hat was, as well as how tall the driver of the car was, how long his hair was, and what direction he was looking while seated in his car, he could definitely tell what the car looked like and if it was a sedan or an SUV.

Also, people are speculating that the girl MB saw at Erin's car with her hair pulled back getting into the red car was Nichole and not Erin. If so, and it was after Erin was already murdered, no way would that jeep be clean after off roading in that area.

I agree. I figured she was in a mineshaft somewhere but I figured she'd be found years from now when someone adventurous person(s) decided to go mine exploring and find her by accident.

I never expected LE go look in so many mines and risked lives to go down and retrieve her and evidence that was left behind. I know they spent countless hours in those two months looking for her, never giving up, and planning well organized searches. She was a needle in a haystack amongst all those mines and I honestly didn't think LE would be the ones to find her.

And all the intel they have collected and what they collected that gave them the idea of where to look. It truly is a miracle they found her and were able to make an arrest within half an hour of identifying her body. Kudos to San Bernadino County Sheriffs Department. (Now find out who killed the McStay family please???)

I agree that he seems sharp. I don't think it will be such a cakewalk tho. The shell casings and rebar can be linked back to CL. The tire tracks too. Motive is clear. He did a search on places to hide a body and a friend stated he asked him about hiding a body. EC stated she was going to be with CL that day...thats not even counting IMs statement and evidence we dont know about. I think they have much more evidence....texts...phone pings...DNA....JMOO

Agree, and I bet they will also be able to lift some prints off of some of the evidence found with Erin....especially if he didn't think they would ever be able to find her or whatever he threw down there with her.

Thank you Vallie! It's helpful to hear first hand about a similar experience although I'm sure it was so painful. This is the impression I got too. It's horrible for those directly involved, but it seems like the military doesn't care that much (sadly) unless it directly hurts day to day operations. I can't even imagine these two couples living next door to each other without some really hard feelings (to say the least).

It doesn't seem likely that a man like Chris would actually murder a girl he 'liked' unless he was forced to do so by his wife. And, I find it hard to believe that he would agree to do so without her planning, guiding and perhaps directly participating in it with him. I don't think he'd agree to shoulder the responsibility for such a heinous crime all by himself. I think we'll find out that Nicole was intimately involved in the crime.

Amen to that! I'm terribly sad that Erin was murdered, but I'm very happy that LE were clearly not being tight-lipped to hide their failures, as some thought and stated many times. Don't get me wrong. I know there are bad cops, just like there are bad accountants, bad soldiers, bad mechanics, etc. But, it saddens me that so many people automatically assume that cops are stupid. There are many honorable, dedicated cops, who sacrifice a lot for their jobs, just as our service members sacrifice a lot for our country. Talk is cheap, as they say, and I think they deserve a lot more respect than they usually get.

Thanks Voice4! I was thinking the same thing, that's a pretty huge mistake to make on the car. Most rental cars are only a year old, maybe 2. I can't imagine mistaking that for a much older Jeep. I can see mistaking Nichole for Erin, though, especially if they're similar heights.

Rose, I agree with your assessment in your first sentence. However, regarding him not wanting to shoulder the responsibility himself, I think he might try to keep his wife out of it in order to keep one parent out of prison for his daughter, to give her some semblance of a normal life. What do you think of this scenario, that I mentioned a few weeks ago: He has thought for a week or so that it is his baby. But, at the neighborhood gathering, CL realizes that JC knows Erin is pregnant and is happy about it. Suddenly he knows that Erin has been sleeping with her husband and that is his motive. Based on your assessment of CL, do you think he could be driven to a jealous, murderous rage in that instance? I am on the fence. "You wanted me to leave my wife and daughter for you, and you've been sleeping with your husband?!"

Something I haven't seen brought up much is the financial aspect of all of this.

Erin gets pregnant by CL.

Erin knows CL is planning on getting out and moving to Alaska, far far away from her.

Erin tells him that she may leave her husband and he had better be prepared to pay child support for the next 18 years.

CL realizes that she could soak him for a ton of money, if the baby is in fact his. $800 mo. (+-)

CL starts to plot and plan on how to rid himself of this problem. (Was his wife included in this planning ? ) Unknown.

CL finds a mine shaft, takes pictures of it on his phone, lures Erica to go with him for a day of target shooting.

Finding those pictures might have been why law enforcement continued to search so hard at joshua tree.

We all know the rest of the story. Erin may have died due to the oldest motivation known to man--GREED

Will the autopsy results be released to the public? If so, when?

I might just lose it if the evidence reveals that Erin was tortured before being murdered.

Hi Rose

I'm thinking the autopsy results will be revealed, after reading this article. I hope she went fast and never saw it coming... but I don't know :frown:

Ramos wasn't able to give many details regarding the case, but he says when those details are released the public will understand why the crime was so awful.

Thanks Dmacky :seeya:

I wonder why Ramos refused to say whether the body was burned. I don't even want to imagine the possibility...

Even the most humane method of murdering Erin which would have consisted of shooting her from behind with her being completely unaware...even that is so cruel, so heartless...I hope it wasn't worse than that.

I hope they release the results soon. My imagination does me no good.

"Corwin told the friend, who lives in Tennessee, that Lee was worried his wife might divorce him and prevent him from spending time with his child if she knew Corwin was pregnant, the affidavit says."
http://news.msn.com/crime-justice/ma...nia-mine-shaft

well in the last video of the friends of Erin at the ranch they all knew she was pregnant again and so happy about it since she had miscarried before. and since NL also frequented the ranch/lived next door to Erin she must of heard about the pregnancy. but she may not have thought it was her husbands.
